2. I don't know what they are like now, but I had a Wesley guitar about 6 years ago & it was utter tripe. I'd hope they'd have improved by now. G.
3. I take it you've tried adjusting the bridge saddles? G.
4. To be honest, I haven't tried a (properly set up) Vintage that I didn't like. I've been very impressed by the feel & action of both basses & guitars. G.

MODboards

I've had quite a few components from Guitar Fetish (not MODboards, though) and they come through pretty quickly. The average delivery is about 5 days - Stewmac usually takes a fortnight - go figure! Also you can email Jay if there are any probs and he usually gets back to you pretty quickly. Recommended. G.
6. Drop in a John East pre and sound like anyone you like............ G.
7.
For a 62/63 If thats what it is, i'd say it was slightly ahead of its time with that finish. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280368832395
Beg to differ - I was in Denmark in 1963 and saw loads of sparkly basses & guitars in the musicshops in Copenhagen. 8. I like leather(!) so tend to go for stuff like this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PURPLE-CELTIC-GUITAR...alenotsupported G.
9. I'm pretty sure yours will back out. The Double-action truss rods work as two threaded rods which work against each other. The tensioning nut is welded to the end of one of the rods......as in my Cirrus!!! I got round it by drilling a small hole & screwing a self-tapping stainless steel screw into it. G.
10. Blimey - those Overwaters are not a bad price!!!! What are they like, bearing in mind I quite like the DR HiBeams and the Roto 55s? G.
11. Thanks to all for the info. Geoff
12.
Trouble is with basses, "long" is standard 34" scale, and not strung through the body. The Cirrus strings through the body, doesn't it? That adds an extra complication. Well, an extra inch or so to an already long scale. No experience with them myself, but I've heard DRs are generally OK on a 35", and they obviously are for your Cirrus, what with it having a set on. I use D'Addario Chromes on my 35" Ibanez, largely because they do a "Super Long" scale set just for people like us. Trouble is, there's only one gauge of super-long 5-string sets in each D'Addario range, so if you don't want 45-130, you're boned.
The Cirrus will string both through body and onto the bridge. It's currently through. When I have a string off I'll lay it against the bridge and compare where the 'kink' caused by the saddle is and maybe work out the difference - I'm pretty sure it won't be a lot. Thanks for the info. Geoff
13.
Overwater do their own nickel and S/S strings which are available for 35".
Thanks - that's handy to know. Any idea where I'd get hold of them? G.
14.
I usually use Picato these days, no probs on 35" scale (Overwater and Guild) although neither is through-strung. Picato will also do custom things if neccessary. Flats, halfrounds, black nylons they do the lot. We sell them in the shop as well, so I could measure some for you if you know the ball end to nut length.
Thanks for that info. I'm not *quite* ready to change the strings, but it won't be long. When I am, I'll take off a string and measure the nut/ball-end length and get back to you. Recently I put on a set of Rotos on another 5er - the new ones without the lion an the packaging. I can't remember the designation, but they didn't have any silk and look just long enough. Any experience with those? I think they are nickel and sound pretty good to me.
15. I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about this, but my MXR-80+ has two channels, and the output from my Hohner B V/Bardens/John East is pretty hot, but the MXR handles it pretty well. Being that it has two channels, you can set one hot and one lower. ? G.
16. I've recently bought a s/h Cirrus BXP V with which I am very pleased. However. I have a set of Roto 555s in the drawer and on presenting them to the 35" scale on the Cirrus, I find the silk would be below the nut, even though the Rotos are marked 'LO' which I assume is long. There's a set of DR HiBeams on it at the moment (black silk) which are OK but certainly not fresh, but I like them along with the Roto 55 Compressors which I have on my passive Jazz. Advice on string length from the 35" warriors her, please? What's the right length/string to buy? Geoff
17. StewMac does a tapered Allan key tool............... Like most Stewmac special tools, it's horrendously expensive and your family will be repaying it unto the third generation........ http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Tools/Special_...d_Wrenches.html G.
18. When you get to more powerful amps (& I wouldn't consider 50W as powerful) the signal to the speakers can account for a decent voltage. Jack plugs & sockets are too easy to short accidentally which could cause major problems. XLR connectors are designed to carry voltage and be difficult to short. G.
19. See Pressurewound v Halfround thread. G.
20. I've had a set of Roto55s on my passive Jazz for over a year now and they are still pretty bright. Admittedly it doesn't get played a lot and my hands are clean and dry............................. But I have to agree, they sound great. For me they are not dissimilar to DR HiBeams. I've bought a 5 string set but yet to put them on. Probably go on the Cirrus. G.
21. I watched a fine example of one of these be bid to over £800 on Ebay. If the neck repair is good, I'd say take it. G.
22. I've heard the Tokai's neck isn't set into the body far enough, making it a right old stretch if you are playing on the bottom frets. G.
23. Damn - if I hadn't just picked up a Cirrus BXP I'd have taken this from you - it's one of the two alternatives I was looking for. Mind you, I got the other!! G.
24.
FWIW I would always get a second opinion on this- I have a Peavey 5 stringer (different model though) that had the same problem, and one guitars shop told me it was knackered and no way to fix it properly; the second one I took it to fixed it for a tenner and replaced the truss rod nut.
Well, that's useful to know. To be honest, now that it's 'right', I'm going to leave well alone until it changes. Thanks for the info. G.
