1. I've always wondered what a Warwick would sound like with vintage-esque pups.
  2. I've really become attached to my Fender Jazz. It as an impulse buy at the time, but I really like the way it plays.
  3. Drinking 6.5 pints of Guinness before a gig, before my singer took my last half pint away. Happy times!
  4.
Following on from where do all the basses go thread, How many do we own as a group on Basschatt, Lets give it a go Post how may you have and add it to the TOTAL from the previous post. Keep it simple no need to post what you have we have done that else where in BC I have 6 TOTAL = 6
+6 TOTAL = 12
  5.
He felt he also had to correct me on my pronounciation of 'ovangkol', because we all use it everyday and it's spoken out loud soooo often I should OBVIOUSLY know how to pronounce it.
Just of curiosity, how do you pronounce it? Is it O-vang-kol or maybe o-VANG-kol?
  6. Didn't your mother tell you guys? Obviously the good ones end up in Bass Guitar Heaven like these lot, and play Spinal Tap's Big Bottom forevermore. As for the bad ones...
  7. WAKE UP!!!
  8.
could I request some sort of "review"? This looks like a great opportunity to hear from another luthier just what these basses are all about. There's a lot of "Claypool....blah..must be the best...blah" from the States, but I've never seen much considered appraisal.
That gets a +1 from me!
  9. I'm watching this and I can't stop laughing!!! Looks like a competitor from the World Air Guitar Championships, especially with that cape... Now, towards the end he looks like a bear that's just escaped from a zoo. Though I must admit, I have seen him play worse solos than this. Gotta show love for the JD bass though.
  10. Any Dunlop Straplocks will work. I've got recessed ones on my Thumb and Dual Design ones on all my other basses. I believe there's a few people on eBay who sell them. You'll most likely have to buy the whole set. But if you have another bass, you have just stick them on that! http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/Catalogue/V...?productId=1356 Here's a shop that sell them in Gold.
  11.
so i guess it really does pay to be kind! it's a shame more buisnesses don't realise this...
Amen.
  12.
Too cheap at £350.
It is a bit of a bargain, considering it is an all active bubinga version. I know it's probably not stock, but those upgrades are awesome. Have a bump on me. I do have a soft spot for Corvettes.

    Lakky BG's
This arrived today, really nice bass. Comes in at 8lb 3oz so not as lightweight as I'd hoped, but I think it'll be a keeper. Nice quarter sawn neck as well, which I wasn't expecting. Anyway - she needs a tort guard, so who's the `go to' supplier for Lakland guards? Jeannie's?
I expect some porn fairly soon then!
  14.
Aren't the chinks still sending us toys that are apparently poisoning some of our kids..........To each his own I guess - you may want to check this out....http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/asia-pacific/6269318.stmn
I'm sorry, but I find that borderline offensive. Mattel is an American company, and they are just as responsible to ensure that QC checks are in place. Besides, Phil Jones Bass and the Lakland Skyline series are examples of outsourcing to the Far East, whilst able to maintain QC. All it takes is a bit more effort on the part of the company. Whereas I agree that QC has suffered in Ashdown since they outsourced (I've heard a few tales of owe on these very boards), to purely implicate the "chinks" as you refer to them is slightly unfair. Ashdown has to bear the brunt of the blame, as they probably went for the most "competitive" supplier to cut costs. Unlike, PJB and Lakland who make it publicly clear that they invested considerable effort that QC is maintained at their suppliers. Their reputation represents this.
  15. A +1 for Parcelforce.
  16.
I've been told by a guy on another forum (the Guitarist one) that I'm to have a chat with people on here about Ashdown bass amps. Probably because in the new year I'm planning on buying an ABM EVO II 500 2x10 combo, and eventually a 4x10 extension cab. So because I've been told that I should speak to people on here about them, I can only assume it's bad stuff I'm going to hear. Any advice?
You could try some ABM combos on here for sale, and make up your own mind. 17.
I'll be looking out for all the cheap EBS gear being sold off by idiots who think if they get his gear they will have his sound.
I'll be right there behind you mate!
  18. Last night I watched a Watchdog programme about how sellers bully their customers to retract negative feedback in order to get refunds for dodgy goods. This shill bidding business doesn't improve my view of it at all. TBH, I don't tend to use eBay for anything worth more than £20. Too much dodgy stuff.
  19. I'm hoping to get Civilisation IV for the mac. Apart from that... I'm pretty sorted. Some cash for the Januart Sales wouldn't hurt.
  20. This is an idea which I've stolen from Ultimate Guitar. Post up your bass New Year's Resolution, and next year we'll see how well we've done. Mine are: - No more bass buying - Learn how to count properly, so I can analyse and breakdown any piece of music
  21.
Playing in a band made a tremendous difference to my consistency and timekeeping.
+1. My basstime line reads: - Played piano. But picked up the school's bass when it was fixed after many years broken and take 4 lessons just before secondary school finished - In the summer, a guy askes him to join his band and does recordings of covers. But loses his number and never hears the recordings. - In college, meet several musicians. Play in two bands. Play College show for one of them. - Just after college, join a friend's band. Play first proper gig at a venue, so roughly 2 years after I first pick up bass. I'm still in that band, and is the one I really cut my teeth on, stopped being an egomanical bassist and learnt to be pretty tight.
  22.
Interesting link. Last time I looked my US precision up on Fenders site it claimed '79 as the build year. - the serial is S8 then 5 digits. Now the site says either '77 or '78.
Dating is an imperfect science, especially when it comes to Fenders. I know of Fenders with S9, but were made in 1983.
  23. I once gigged with a band with major management interest, as a temporary replacement. We did a gig at the Brixton Jamm. Beginning the set was a girl called Adele, who played solo acoustic. She had an amazing voice and she a very strong following. Think Amy Winehouse, but better! Fantastic behind the beat, lazy Sunday type feel. Few months down the line, I see her perform on Later with Jools Holland, and then a live video on MTV2. Check her out. I love "Hometown Glory".
