1.
I use the plastic version of the Grolsh washer - I think it is made by Dunlop. It is a plastic washer made of two parts, which vary the size of the centre hole as you move them against each other.
Yeah I bought the strap which has these on them for my guitarist's birthday. Like Warwickhunt I too had my heart in my mouth when his strap slipped off. He hated the idea of strap locks purely for looks (though I still maintain from far, no-one's going to tell), so I bought this for him. So that's one less thing to go wrong during a gig.
  2. I am still looking for the perfect case solution for me. Basically I want a bag that's perfect for carrying in the Underground during rush hour when soundchecks usually are. I believe the InCase does fit the bill, apart from the fact you can't get them in this country! Anyways, this is what would be perfect for me: -Obviously good padding -Good support for pin strap at the bottom of the bag -Removable straps -Strong and comfortable side handle -Well placed front handle, high enough so one can carry it and it will balance -Enough space for a Mark Bass LMII If I could design one myself, I would also include a side handle higher up the bag. This is so you could walk with the bag against your chest whilst walking in tight squeezes. You see, I end up walking with the bag held against my chest and my arm underneath the higher top pocket (if you get what I mean). Anyways, I'm off to check out this Sadowsky Portabag. EDIT: It looks really good. But can anyone tell me if you can fit a Mark Bass LMII in the Portabag?
  3.
I *think* you could fit the little mark but it would be tight - the pocket is quite long and wide but not that deep (if that makes sense). My mates Mark is in a purpose built flightcase and that wouldn't fit but I think without the case it should slot in nicely - no promises but I don't see a problem, Cheers John
Do you think there's a bit of space for a bit of bubble wrap around the MarkBass too? Thanks for trying it out for us btw...
  4. emm... I didn't know that either. You learn something new everyday.
  5.
I've had, and know a few people who have also had issues with ordering from their website, for example them saying something will be in stock in 2 days, then shipped, then in 2 days it would say 5 more days, then in 5 days it would say 28 days etc.
+1 from me. I've heard the same from another forum. Moral of the story, phone them to confirm they have it in stock... no matter what it says on their website.
  6. Wicked... this may be the answer to all my problems.
  7. I love that copper candy finish!
  8.
It's very light I think, sizewise it's a little bigger than 2 gigbags, there's a little plastic frame at the base where the wheels sit that helps give it shape. Hope that makes sense John
I've got a few questions myself. How is it to carry via the front handle, i.e. can you walk with it comfortably holding it there? Does it have a side handle? If so, how comfortable is it and what material is it made out of? Have you used it on public transport? If so, how was it? How large is the front pocket. Do you think you could fit a Mark Bass Little Mark II? (http://www.markbass.it/products.php?lingua=en&cat=1&vedi=69) Sorry for the million questions. It's just I'm still looking for my perfect soft gig bag solution after trying so many different cases.

    GAIN!

EBS MicroBass II. I have my "clean" channel which I like a bit dirty anyway when using passive basses. I then use my second channel to increase the gain a tad and boost my lower-mids too for a fuller fatter sounds. Nice to fill some space during the guitar solos as I'm in a three piece. I would love to go all out fuzz, but it just doesn't suit my band at all.
I'll bring Lakland DJ5, Lakland Duck Dunn and Epifani rig plus whatever else takes my fancy.
Oooohh... I would love to get my grubby paws on that Duck Dunn. I'm really curious to see how it sounds with those Dark Stars. Good job on organising it! I guess if we're short on amps I can bring my MarkBass LMII + Epifani UL-110. Bass wise I might bring down my Fender Jazz. If I don't need to bring an amp, I may bring down my trans-era Stingray for some nice eye candy.
  11. EBS MicroBass II into my computer. Gets the job done!
  12.
MB1. and the spice girls apparently??????? MB1.
God have mercy on our souls...
  13.
MB1. S*U*Y Hows it going there! mate! the strange thing with les claypool as most fans will tell you is! les is best LIVE and i dont really think his studio material does him justice!(often sounds a little thin) Try and get to see some of mr claypools live performance! absolutely awesome! yeo ,eyo, eyoch eyoch eyo, eyoch eyoch eyo, e, a, e, a, e! (for mark sandman). MB1.
I'm not too bad mate. Hope you're cool. I really would love to see Primus live... it's wicked that all these 90's bands are reforming which I didn't think I would ever see, i.e. Rage Against The Machine, Alice In Chains.
  14.
I bought Sailing the Seas of Cheese out of curiosity, because I wanted to see what all the fuss was about with this Claypool fella I kept hearing about. I hated it. I mean, I despised every second. So I put it on a shelf where it gathered dust for a good couple of years, until a while ago when I happened upon it and thought I'd give it another go. And lo and behold... I hated it even more. Sold it for 3 quid on fleaBay, or it would have ended up as a drinks mat.
I bought Seas of Chesse out of curiosity too... but I loved it. I was completely dumbfounded how a band could sound so dissonant and weird, yet be catchy as well.
  15.
I have 3 bands on the go due to guitarists and singers not wanting to gig too often! Save yourself some grief and form a rhythm section with your drummer. Far easier to find work, you get to know each others playing more and if you are both in 2 bands together (as opposed to 3 bands if you both got alternative bands) it makes it far easier to schedule gigs. The added benefit is that if one of the bands that you are in has to cancel due to a problem with guitarist or singer you simply do it with your other band!
I have a good working relationship with my drummer and have had the odd gig here and there outside our main band. Might have to look into making more money out of it. In fact we're also playing in a blues band of our frontman's father.
  16.
Wow, that Jazz is superb!
I know! hehe... It's almost like reading a great saga looking at all your basses. At least you had a lot of fun getting there.

Hi there... I would be up for this.
  18.
Well the instructions were quite accurate but they didnt say it entails almost getting a full engraving of the washer in the tips of your thumbs!
I used pliers. I found them impossible to put on or take off by hand. But at least I know they're not going anywhere now.
  19.
Could just be that he moved the knob from one place to another. Weird. Not really a problem but like other people have said, it could work out as being quite handy if/when you upgrade the electronics. Lovely looking instrument btw (apart from the hole). Congrats.
I think you're right. I don't think I've ever seen a corvette with a pot in that high position. Perhaps he felt it got in the way or something.
  20.
I've got some on my bass and trust me I almost destroyed my thumbs putting them on, they are the most complex strap-locks out there without a doubt
Yeah! I wish they had proper instructions on how to fit them on. It just wasn't very clear.
  21.
I got some Warwick ones off Thomann nice and cheap (same time as my bass to I avoided postage). They seem to work great
Sorry, but I do have to say I have had a LOT of trouble with the Warwick strap locks on my old Corvette. If it wasn't the screw being quite short and resulting in the whole lock coming out of the bass, it would be the actual locking mechanism wouldn't be 100%. I might have just got a dud though. I use Dunlop Straploks on all my basses after being very impressed with the recessed ones on my Thumb. I use the Dual Design on my others, which you can either uses strap locks or just a strap by itself. Insurance in case I should lose my strap and need to borrow another.
  22.
Is it me or is Mr Myung about the most tedious, boring and plain unelightening virtuoso interviewee out there? Having read his interview twice now the only way I could find anything he says interesting is to rip the page out, fashion it into an origami water bomb and throw it someone. I mean, aaarrrggghhh!, surely they've got a cliche editor or something....
Much like his playing, he seems to be a modest guy. Nothing wrong with that IMO. Anyways, I'm surprised Gibson keep sending BGM stuff to review. I don't think I've ever seen a Gibson bass get more than a 3 star rating. I really liked the "Aches and Pains" article. I've been having a bit of lower back problems from carrying my gear around London. Osteopathy sounds life fun...
  23.
the EB Musicman forum, CEO, and myself (Bongo) recommend Markbass amps (mine's plugged into an Accugroove cab)
Oh yes... I love boosting the VPF filter on it. Great slap thump.
  24.
Personally, I thought it'd be more fun to replace the words with meaningless jibberish, thus rendering the posts of those who swear on the forum meaningless.
+1... It does make life a bit more interesting when you have to look up your cockney rhyming dictionary. hehe...
