Line 6 Bass Floor PodXT Live (what a mouthful!) Opinions?
s_u_y_* replied to tylerlangan's topic in Effects
Evenin' to the bass-playing world! Just wondering if anyone has one of these? I started getting a mega craving for one after hearing the sound clips and whatnot on their website, and after pricing up several pedals that I was after (and getting to a number wayyyy North of £600! including a pedal-board) it just seemed like this has them all modelled and I've loved the normal bass Pod's that they make (used them a few times in the studio) I was just wondering if anyone has/uses one? And what they reckon to using it live or in the studio (or both??) I seem to remember agesss ago on BW there was a topic or two about them so if anyone could hit me up with some advice it'd be much obliged! =D I've got a zoom b2 at the moment and havent really been bowled over with the quality of the fx (they're not bad though) I was just wondering how much of a step up in quality the line6 is? Thanks in advance! Tyler
IMHO, you get what you pay for. This is certainly true about the Line 6 stuff versus Zoom. We're their recent remake, I did expect a larger amount of quality after being very disappointed with the poor quality products they had made in the past. But after hearing about a guitar and bass version being used at a gig on Friday, I was sorely disappointed. Don't get me wrong, they do a decent job, especially for the money. I myself have been quite impressed by the Line 6 stuff. I until recently got on very nicely with the XT Live (I only sold it because I wanted a smaller portable solution and got a EBS Microbass). TBH, I think you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between a real rig and the Line 6 going through a good PA in a live situation. Even then, if you wanted backline, all you would need is a poweramp/cab setup. The only bad thing I can think about it (apart from a squeaky volume/wah pedal which seems to be common but easily fixable) is that it is so vast and that you have so many options. I do prefer something slightly more straight forward, but saying that it is still quite easy to use. If you are a tone freak, you will love the XT Live. -
If the PM doesn't work, try dave[at]davemarks[dot]com Good luck with it all!

How much of what you play do you also listen to?
If you like Muddy, you'll like Howlin' Wolf.
I've heard of him but not checking him out properly. I'll see if there's any of his stuff on YouTube and Myspace. Thanks! -

The music I play is very different to the stuff I love to listen to. I like early 90's-rock, like RHCP and Primus. But the band I'm playing is is very blues influenced. But I've really enjoyed my time there and have been exposed to some great bluesmen including Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Buddy Guy and Muddy Waters to name a few. So I don't mind it at all. -
20 - 24" (that's 600mm to you youngsters) concrete paving slabs. Collection only, free to a loving home.
I have to ask... you didn't just nick em from outside your house? lol

Yeah... ordering from the Bass Centre online is a nightmare in my experience and haven't done it since. Though I will say my in shop experience has been good so far. Sorry to hear about your delay mate and hope it all gets sorted quickly.

Yeah, I used to have cheap £10 speakers. But it made trying to transcribe bass parts a nightmare as sometimes I could barely hear the thing. So I popped down Argos and got a reasonable Logitech kit with a sub-woofer. Nothing too fancy, but it's great being able to hear your bass parts more easily. Thanks guys for checking it out though.
Now build a bass out of it! Then I would be impressed!
Someone's made a guitar out of it. http://www.geekasaurus.com/clint/gallery/legoguitar emm... sounds like I could make my own boutique basses here. Problem is, that even a child do could it.

My band was invited to do a couple of gigs down in Austria. One gig we recorded a video using the venue's kit and recorded from the PA. Not a bad result. The light were a bit crazy... never played with so many lights everywhere and a smoke machine. Made things a little interesting onstage to say the least when you can't even see your drummer. But yeah, check this track called "Plastic and Wine". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeYAJNcHoeg Also, there's a clip of our own version of "Texas Flood" for you Stevie Ray Vaughan fans. Thanks for looking.

I remember reading a thread on TalkBass about this guy who sold it to a shop, instantly regretted it, but couldn't remember the shop to which he sold it to. I think he found it in the end and bought it back. The one I saw was in blueburst and I was most intrigued. Looked cool!
Why's that? Isn't the 12th fret harmonic basically a clearer tone of the open string?
I think what dave_says meant, that method assumes your intonation is 100%.

For sale at Vintage and Rare for the princely sum of £6850... But it is absolutely stunning. That matching headstock is just... "wow!". Would you?
-
Hey... I might be interested one too second hand if nobody wants theirs. I've also been very curious as I've read loads of reviews praising them to high heaven.
I'd probably say in 20 years or so pre 1998 Waricks would be worth something, you know, those made in Germany. Fenders/Gibbo's will always be vintage instruments no matter what. In 20 years a 2000 model will be worth something.
Well firstly, Warwicks are still being made in Germany. It is true that some players favour some aspects of the pre-98 construction, i.e. neck profile, neck wood, etc. I've encountered a few players who exclusively play pre-90's Warwicks, due to the EMG no longer being stock after their tiff with Spector IIRC and other construction differences. Whether this will lead to increased market prices for pre-98 Warwicks in the future remains a possibility. Though when I was checking out the eBay market for Warwicks a few months ago, pre-98 trait didn't seem to factor into price at all. Also you have to realise a lot of Warwick endorsers at the moment from what I've seen use modern Warwicks. So I'm not sure the demand for pre-98 will surface.
Having said that, I'm amazed at how comparatively cheap vintage Ricks are
Yeah... I've noticed that too. Why is that?

Bloody hell!

Standard.. though one gig we did it in Eb standard as the vocalist's voice wasn't 100%.

Don't post your bass via Parcelforce/RoyalMail
s_u_y_* replied to OldGit's topic in General Discussion
Wow... I'm really sorry to hear about that. I certainly won't be ever using them again. I hope you get somewhere legally with that. The fact they sold you extra insurance when their policy stipulates musical instruments can't be covered by extra compensation is amazing! Good luck with that mate. -
i really like the corvette iv been wantin one for ages...i do like the look of the thumb never played one though... when i get round to the point of which im actually gonna buy (not any time soon) ill look at the thumb but i really do like the corvette! How much is the Thumb? and not a clue bout the Wilma and Betty m8 :S cheers
It is true what martthebass said. I was in exactly the same situation. As soon as you got the corvette, you will want the thumb. But they are really different beasts. I actually TBH prefer the corvette, mainly because it was so much more flexible. I wish they made Corvette NTs before the 1998 changes in neck profile. But not many basses I've played have beaten my Thumb in terms of sustain, clarity of harmonics and just fantastic playability (though the neck hangs far from your body). But do try them out, as they aren't everybody's cup of tea. Warwicks seem to go fairly reasonable second hand. I believe I've seen Thumb BO go for around £500. I've even seen a NT go for £600 once, that was unbelivable!

http://www.warwickbass.com/basssurvival101/lesson_home.htm I've found the few lessons that are there to be great and unbiased giving a balanced opinion on different techniques. Also has good general tips as well. Oh... and www.tunemybass.com which was handy just a second ago in case you practise hooked up to your PC like I am now.
The journey to string nirvana is a long and expensive one, what one person loves another will hate so its impossible to tell you what strings to buy.
Amen... I'm still on my quest to find my perfect set of strings. I think I'm gonna try some halfwound stuff next. My favourites so far have been GHS Bass Boomers. The best thing is to try whatever you can. Buying strings from the internet will save money. Buying strings is a very personal thing, and with so much choice, i.e. material, roundwound/flats, brand, coating, core shape, etc. I would be reluctant to say there are strings that are best for blues/funk. Just try what you can, and judge for yourself what you prefer. But if you want my opinion, must kind of nickel roundwound string would suit you. It doesn't have such a bright tone as stainless steel which IMHO is better for blues, and it's more easier on the fingers for slapping. Incidentally, GHS Bass Boomers fit that bill.
I'd be interested in their stuff if they'd do them in head/cab configurations - I've kinda outgrown combos.
Some people use their Line 6 Pods as preamps and use power amps to drive their cabs.
Yea I intend to. Thanks for the tip on the Ibuleve, not heard of it before.
Yeah... anti-imflammatories are a good idea. In addition to seeing a doctor, maybe you should consider lightening your attack or looking at ways to reduce extra and unnecessary strain on that part of your hand.
