1. I've often thought about that. How about the analogy of buying a banged up 30 year old car and putting up a mark-up and calling it a reliced piece. 'Fraid I'm guilty of buying into that myself. It's interesting to see how and for what reasons people assign certain value to items.
  2. Welcome!
  3. I've had enough of band politics, and now prefer projects where there is an effective "bandleader". Some may call it a Dictatorship. I call it working without any bullcrap. I usually only do this where I respect the bandleader as a creative force. Do I get annoyed that sometimes if my ideas and suggestions aren't taken up. Yes. But at least things get done, gigs are booked and ultimately I enjoy myself more.
  4.
Apart from some dubious hype there's nothing actually misleading about his blurb - these are licensed by Steinberger so it's no more deceptive than mentioning Fender when flogging a Squier.
His exact words are: This is the Original 1986 Steinberger® Headless Bass Guitar From Hohner. It's just the way he's worded it that makes me uncomfortable. It's more than mentionning it, it suggests that it's an "Original 1986 Steinberger" rather than just a licensed copy. It's more like describing it as an "original 1997 Ernie Ball Musicman Stingray from OLP". I know I'm just playing semantics, but he is too.
  5.
What a c***. Also: 'you can get just about any bass guitar sound you want'
I owned this model before... also it was cool with its own charm, that's most certainly not true! Hate that the implication in the description is that the bass is a Steinberger. He walks a very fine between being ambigious and just plain deceptive. Pity someone's bound to fall for it and even if I do report it, using my past experiences with eBay, they'll do nothing much about it.
  6. I tried one years back when I was doing a spot of recording and the guy offered to let me use his RockBass Corvette. Was really impressed by the sound, and at this point I had never played a Warwick. I thought the built was alright, discounting the strong fret buzz. But I thought if I was impressed with a RockBass, I thought I had to try a Warwick. Then became a Warwick man and was gigging one as my main bass for about two years.

    Backup amps
I carry a decent DI just in case anything happens to the amp. Only happened to me once, but I'm glad I had it with me!
+1 on both accounts.
  8. Hey there... this is a press release from my band to advertise for a new drummer (no nasty "creative differences" stories, I promise!) "Jamie West Band are looking for a new drummer to complete a rock trio. Influences include Bruce Springsteen, Ben Harper, Bob Dylan and Muddy Waters. JWB has been building a following for 4 years, including a tour of Austria and an ongoing residency in Leicester Square. The band are currently looking for a recording contract and have received great press in the various media outlets. JWB are looking for someone who is between 20-30 years old and can supply their own equipment (and ideally transport). Rehearsals will be paid for, so there is no financial burden. A high level of skill and lots of enthusiasm are essential. http://www.jamiewestband.com"
  9. Can I just vouch for Mark and say he's a really cool guy. Hope it goes well mate. Frodo
  10.
Last time I was in there, some 'suit' walked in, pointed at a les paul custom and paid about £1400.00 without flinching. It was for his kid!!!!!!
That's obscene! Someone's probably gonna grow up to be a spoilt brat. It doesn't matter if you earn £10,000 a year or £100,000. Any responsible parent has to teach his or her children values, and that includes the value of money!
  11.
There is no consensus, use the strings you like, try lots,
+1. The past few years I've been questing for my perfect set of strings. Trying out different gauges, brands and materials getting a new pack every couple of months. Like most things, it's a personal thing. There is consenus to about what rough aural properties string material can make, i.e. stainless steels are brighter than nickels, and nickels are softer on the hand than stainless steel. But different strokes for different folks. Oh... and I did manage to find my perfect set of strings, DR Sunbeams 45-100.
  12.
The absolute worst thing you can do in the studio is over-estimate how many songs you can cram into your alotted time. I'd be far happier walking away with two songs we'd played and recorded really well than having five that are rushed or half-arsed. Otherwise the whole thing is a waste of your time and money.
+1!
  13. Looking to sell on a set of Ernie Ball Beefy Slinky gauge 11, 15, 22p, 30, 42, 54. Will also come with an extra "E" 54 string. Perfect for lower tunings or just a beefier tone. £4 delivered
  14.
Come out of Camden Town tube, walk left round the corner (which should land you outside the other entrance of the tube station), cross the road & turn left again (Camden Road I think). Walk up the hill, you should pass Sainsbury's on your left (if it's on your right, do a left/right at the next cross-roads). Keep walking until you get to the big railway bridge, cross the road & turn right into Royal College St. The Gallery is about 150-200 yards down - just after the canal. Hopefully the above will make more sense on the ground! Take their phone number just in case - I have had to ring 'em up to get in before now. Pete.
Google Maps is your friend. 16. Here was the deal, we have a monthly residency at The Comedy, Piccadilly Circus in London. Last night we had a Valentine's Day Eve gig... before which, we asked members of the audience to write down a word related to Valentine's Day and to hold it up when we ask. My bandleader, Jamie West then went out into the audience and read the pieces of paper being held up and wrote a song right on the spot using them. We recorded a rough version, and Jamie used this to go straight home into his studio and laid down it down for free download as our new single the very next day... which is today! The results were hilarious!!!! Play it for your loved one. Jamie West Band - Valentine's Day (right click to download). 17.
Hey, thanks, all I need is a wiring diag, I wonder why the active was cut, I bet I'll find out when I eventually re connect everything
I had the Hohner B2V. Really couldn't make the preamp work for me at all and so always ended up playing it in passive.
  18. Beautiful! Shame about the classic Fender QC on the paintwork... Beautiful nonetheless!!!
  19. I quite like Max Santos from Aventura. They're a modern Bachata act with bit of contemporary R&B influence. The grooves are quite straight forward stuff, i.e. root, minor 3rds and fifths stuff. But he throws in some interesting licks about and manages to hold a strong foundation whilst being quite melodic. Their big tunes are Mi Corazoncito and Obesion. Todavia Me Amas has some great licks too. I know you can find them on YouTube.

  21.
I have a couple of 4 string basses that are considerably heavier than my 90 NT. I've never thought the weight was an issue at all to be honest, maybe some are heavier than others? Not a particularly helpful comment in the thread either methinks. Great basses, especially the earlier ones like this.
I didn't find my old thumb particularly heavy either. Bubinga is a heavy wood, but the small size of the Thumb body eliminates that as a problem (well for me at least). Sexy bass btw! Played one of these earlier thumbs before, and they're brilliant basses! So have a free bump on me.
  22.
Well he has response from Warwick and as predicted by Nostradamus here, they are c*ck on with their info and have valued his 'damaged' (BO) Streamer bass @ £1000 - £1500 @ they wish! Subsequently his BO neck bass with the damaged control cavity has gone up in value from £600 to £900. Luke mate, @ £600 you've undervalued your 'undamaged' NT SSI. In fact going off Warwick's used price list we should all be expecting at least £1500 - £2000 for a used NT SSI. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Warwick-Streamer-Act...1QQcmdZViewItem
Whoa! That's a massive overvaluation! I wonder if that's just reflecting the recent change in the Euro-Pound rate. Might seem like a reasonable price in Euros. As I learned on my trip to Madrid few weeks back, €5 for a pint is reasonable, whereas £5 isn't!
