1. I quite like them. They are certainly unique pieces!
2. I do think it is important to have at least a basic understand of reading and theory. I think it helps you understand the construction of music a lot, i.e. harmony, counting, etc. At grade 6, sounds like your fine.
3.
You wish you were rich? Nah you don't. Being me is vastly overrated.
You say that, but you're already Rich. Pity those of us who weren't blessed with such attributes at birth. To be honest, I'll agree with Marcus. Sure it's a nice clean example, but you can find nice clean examples elsewhere for much less. A battered tour bass or used on recording, it maybe might be worth it if you've got that kind of money to blow. But this is coming from a presumed collector's point of view. An investor would think differently I guess.
4. Trust me, being close to bankrupt is the only way to quench that GAS. After all, you could always buy a bigger board. haha
5. I prefer to be stage left, hi-hat side. Easier to maintain eye contact from that angle IMO.
6. Hey! Just remembered this thread. So happy because I kept my New Year's Resolution not to buy anymore basses and unnecesary equipment. Although I did find a little loophole meaning I could trade... hehe. How did your 2008 Resolutions go?
7. "The bass player carries the basic beat to the band and to the audience and solos periodically" Thank you Fender for defining my existence as a bass player... haha.
8.
The academy will teach you how to play your bass. Working with the band will teach you so much more. Looks better on the CV too.
+1. Go for it mate. You can always study afterwards.
9. I've seen these guys play and they're pretty damn good.
10.
Again? They've already increased them by about that t'other month.
Apparently so. The guy I talked to said they already increased them this year and will increase them next year too in order to cover costs. He says management are confident about the recession period and the Fender brand section is still quite strong for now. At least we won't have to worry about our guitar and bass manufacturers needing a bailout.
11. Hey there guys... was talking to someone who works for Fender Europe. Looks like they're gonna increase prices by 10%. *** DISCLAIMER *** Don't take this post as gospel.
12. Since my New Years Resolution for 2008 was not to buy anymore basses, it's been a fairly quiet year for me. In: Warwick Streamer Stage I (Trade) Alien Customer Compact Poweramp EBS NEO 110 (Trade) Out: Warwick Thumb NT (Trade) Epifani UL-110 (Trade) Musicman Stingray (trans-era) Line 6 Echo Park (Out on Loan)
13.
I'm not, but am a user of Ultimate Guitar. It's pretty good, disregarding the fact that most of them are Americans. deleriumbassist is a laugh though.
UG is cool... but the same old tired threads, i.e. what do you think of this bass, etc. making it boring sometimes.
14. I am a member and find it a useful resource, but really dislike the attitude of some of the forumites there. That's why I've put up my tent here... simply the best bass forum around IMO.
15. Man... my New Year's Resolution of not buying a new bass ends in a few days. Now I know what to put on the top of the GAS list!
16. I bought and tried the EBS Titanium nickel coated strings. I should have thought of it when I bought them, but the low density of the material makes them incredibly light. They're cool strings and all, but I do like strings with higher masses, i.e. DR string's compression winding technique, but don't like too thick a gauge. So I ended up taking them off and putting them in a corner somewhere. Tonally, they seemed slightly more top end-y to me. I would imagine the physical and tonally properties might be suitable for someone who engages in a lot of slap and tapping work. If you like your strings light without a reduction in gauge, then these are the type of strings are you. If not (like me) you're better off somewhere else.
17. Agree with tombboy a bit, there were a few dodgy moments at the beginning, but love the rest!
18.
Do we believe Billy Sheehan receives no further incentives to play Yamaha products?
But still, he could have easily gone the route of most artist sig models and their cheaper manufactured counterparts. He deserves a bit of kudos for that at least.
19.
I recall a link to a Billy Sheehan vid from another thread in which he states that the bass he uses is the off the shelf signature model, no special gubbins or woods, exactly what you'd get if you bought one. Has to be applauded, even if he is a scientologist
+1!
20. Man... I've always been against the TB style of selling with subcribing members only. But after the past few weeks, I'm wondering if the pros outweigh the cons.
21. Always sad to hear when deals go wrong. Hopefully Allen_Baker will see the error of his ways before the wrath of BC falls upon him JakeBass stylee.
22. I voted no... but over the past 30 seconds, I've warmed up to them. They are certainly unique.
23. Credit to the guy for remaining calm throughout the situation, even during the act of self-defence.
24. Thanks for the heads up. Didn't know about the sticky.
25. I think I need the DI output on my Mark Bass LMII looked at. Any recommendations for places in London? Thanks in advance.
