I'll be coming down with my Fender Precision '74, my EBS MicroBass II DI and if my custom portable poweramp being made by Alien (Andy) is finished, I'll bring that too! -
Be prepared - it's always going to cost you more to build your own instrument than buy a cheapo starter one.
Yeah, you can get second hand beginner basses for dirt cheap nowadays. I got mine for £20. If you search eBay or Gumtree, you might be able to find something in the £50 or less range.

Wow... to have such a natural feel for groove at that age. I'm bloody jealous! This kid's gonna be amazing.

I usually change my strings every 3 months, so no real need for me. Though I did use a bass for a festival gig last week and wanted to use a bass with 6 month old strings and I've lost my pilers to trim the strings down. So brought a spare then. For most 30 minute gigs in the toilet circuit mean it's not a good idea for me to be swapping basses. Would love to though.

I always think it is a little overkill to be going through 2 different preamps.
I plan to be cremated so I'd have my fave bass along for the ride, oh, and I intend to have my ashes sent to space, which you can actually do.
I'd be careful with that approach. Usually only part of your ashes are actually sent up (unless your mega rich). So you never know... your bass might get more of a space burial than you!

Also, there's "Help s_u_y_* buy a Warwick Streamer Stage I bass guitar". Give a man a guitar, he'll make music during solo sections. Give a man a bass, he'll make music for life.

I need to get a will done up soon. But I have instructed my sister to distrubute them to two friends whom I know will make use out of them.
Thanks Neill, correct. Sorry SUY, I should have realised my minimalist post was open to interpretation. No offence intended. And I'd still like to know how it went.
Sorry mate.
And?
A bit uncalled for mate. Anyways, hope it goes really well!
Anyone for tennis? Even I'd draw the line, at £3,690. Cheers Mark
Would be fun to chuck at the drummer head and watch it bounce back to you. £3,690? Well worth it for that!
Thats fine but why would you usev a di box when there is a balanced output on the front of the amp.
I can see just as we have had bad experiences with bad soundguys, they've had bad experiences with bad bands. He might just prefer to use equipment he knows works for sure. They must have their idiosyncrasies as well as us. This is not to say I have met some pretty incompetent soundguys. There was one who forgot to turn on the guitar and bass for the FOH speakers! Apparently talking to other soundguys, he has a reputation for "forgetting" to turn things on.

If you aren't enjoying it at all anymore, don't continue with it.
Treat all other bands as the enemy. It's the only way.
Sorry mate, I really disagree with you on this one. I find if you make the effort to be friendly to other bands, generally you enjoy the gig more. Some of my favourites gigs have been where there's a sense of camaraderie amongst the bands. and they'll be more likely to stay and see your set. Being nice can also extend your networking base, and they may have contacts themselves. As the saying goes, "Be nice to people on your way up because you meet them on your way down". For me, that also includes soundguys, no matter how rubbish they really are! They might actually be bothered if something messes up on stage.
I just think that, as musicians, we all know the hard work it takes to practice, get gigs, schlep gear to venues etc - surely that should give you some sense of camaraderie with other bands on the bill? Apparently not
Amen. In fact some of the most enjoyable gigs I've played are when the bands have all been friendly to each other.
-
That's taking the piss. You should have asked the soundguy or promotor to deduct that time from their set. Though to be honest, if the soundguy had any sense, he would have soundchecked you anyway.

For a while I was GAS-ing over their Ampeg AEB-1 copy, the EEB-1.
-
Though I expressed the same concerns as you, I found absolutely no difficulty in transferring to board markers to only using side markers. Get the bass!
-
Welcome to the forum and to playing the bass. Hope you'll love them as we do.
Inexperienced musicians tend to concentrate on there own sound not the bands. Keep in mind you can not accurately judge the true sound of a amp in a band context 3 feet in front of the speaker
+1. It is impossible for you to judge what sounds good for the audience from the stage. If you're just doing gigs on the toilet circuit, you have little time to soundcheck. I believe anything to make the soundguy's job more easier can result in a better sound in general. So I always send him a DI signal before the pre-amp and use the minimum volume of backline I need. It may not be totally my sound, but I'd rather it sound half decent than it sound too loud or boomy or etc, from the audience's perspective. There is a big element of trust involved I guess.

I messaged the guy with a link to the Squier product page. I just can't help think that he is being delibrately misleading because of the photos that he chose. They are seem to make the headstock tricky to view at first glance. I hope that I am wrong.
