The Richard Thompson "Live in Austin Texas" DVD would be a good purchace.
His tone on the track "Mingus Eyes" is just breathtaking - turn up loud ! -
Sold Stewart a fretless Fender Japan P-bass neck - paid very promptly and enjoyed good communications with him throughout the transaction.
I have no problems in recommending him to any prospective buyer/seller.
All the best - hope your fretless P-bass project goes smoothly - don't forget the piccies !

....saw this on e-bay

Tried link and it appears to work.
I would be patient and look on E-bay and the BC classifieds. I have bought basses from Japan through e-bay with seikosuru2003 and bluezy-guitars - had great quick service - you can contact them to look out for things for you too.
You could also look for Jap bass bodies and necks on e-bay and make up your own one that way.
Good luck in your hunt ! -
From 1976.....

Scroll down a bit and you'll see the (You Tube) vid
You'll have to put up with some drum noodling until 1:15 when Percy comes in (in his own inimitable style - harmonics blazing !)
At 1.25 there is good footage of him grooving away - great stuff !
You can check out some soundclips of more recent stuff on his website too to see what he's up to these days - not everyones cup of tea I know but jeez I love his playing. -
I'm a bit of an MK fan I must say - the Japan album "Tin Drum" album is as good a place as any to start.
He's readily admits to Percy Jones being a big influence - indeed he got into fretless through hearing Percy Jones on Eno's Another Green World album.
Another great British fretless player to try out if you haven't heard him before..... -
Folks,
Up for grabs is a Fender Japan Precision Bass neck. Unlined fretless with a rosewood fingerboard - excellent condition - includes tuners.
This came from a PB62FL bass that I bought from Ishibashi in Japan in 2006 so is quite rare in these parts.
"B" spec - so 1.65 neck width at the nut - somewhere in between a P-Bass and a Jazz.
Would make for a beautiful fretless Fender project - be it P-bass or Jazz bass.
I have a piccie of it on a jazz bass body here

Looking for £175 plus postage
If you need any more info please get in contact !

Folks,
Just wondering if anyone out there has bought or got their hands on one of these yet. I ordered one from Thomman but the order kept getting pushed back so I cancelled.
Mulling over whether to get one or not - makes a nice change from the Fender or Fender based instruments I've been into of late.
Certainly the review on Bass Player TV on sonic grounds makes it a must.
The looks are not to everyones taste but if it sounds that good who cares I say......
Two octaves - light as a feather and £199 or so - you can't really go wrong/ -
Will definitely be looking out for the book.
Given the interest in these basses I'm surprised Fender never did a re-issue.
You'd probably have to go down the Fender CS or Bravewood route now to get a new version of one.
One day perhaps...... -
BK's work on the Laurie Anderson album "Strange Angels" is highly recommended - especially on the track "Monkeys Paw".

Folks,
Have the above combo up for grabs - mint condition and comes in the original box.
Essentially a 12 inch cube modelling amp with a single 10 inch driver. Sounds great, very portable and has a decent amount of power.
Looking for £100 + postage.
Will get some piccies up soon.
If you live near Newport in South Wales get in touch and you can try before you buy !

Get two Darkstars........

He he he -
Great stuff - looks fab !
Nice to see something a little different.
Must go to the Lakland website to hear what they sound like - if indeed they have clips up and running yet.......
Hope you have hours of fun

Hi Jase,
Will give Dave a bell in the new year - I have a few bits and bobs for him to do - one of which may be to coat my P-bass fingerboard !
Cheers
Bill -
Hi Jase,
I have been eyeing up a fretless Status neck for my Jazz body for some time now as well- I have an unlined fretless P-bass neck (Japanese) on it at the moment. Don't know whether to get the neck's existing fingerboard coated or go for the graphite neck - I'd go for a P-bass neck profile if I did. Obviously the coating option is cheaper.......
I've noticed on the Status website that the price has come down a bit of late (VAT reduction included) - it's around the £366 mark including postage - you'd obviously have to buy tuners too. I'm sure in the past it used to be around £410 after VAT. So seems a wee bit more affordable.
If you are still in Newport - we'll have to hook up - drop me a line .....

Good to see there are people out there that like Percy Jones too !
He's my Jaco - if you see what I mean.
I LOVE Jaco dearly don't get me wrong - I have everything he's done (just about) - but Percy just pushes one or two more buttons more for me - I particularly love his "Wal" period but have grown to love his early "P-bass" stuff too......
Back to Jaco -
Would like to see some Joni Mitchell albums re-mastered - especially Don Juan's Reckless Daughter and Mingus -
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing the photos on the Decade when it arrives.
I nearly ordered one through the Dudepit around the time you ordered yours but ended up going for a US Glaub in the end - that took only a year to arrive.......
Enjoy your new baby when it arrives. -
How did the gig go by the way ?
I'd have been all over this one - but had tickets to see Frankie Boyle in St Davids Hall - an altogether different kind of gig !
Precision necks with everything...

Great stuff Stewart,
Glad your happy with the fretless neck - looks to be a fine combination.
Just keep on at it. Play along with lots of records - not necessarily with fretless players.
Do lots of gigs if you can too - the neck will become familiar in no time at all.
All the best
Bill
