Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and seeing the photos on the Decade when it arrives. I nearly ordered one through the Dudepit around the time you ordered yours but ended up going for a US Glaub in the end - that took only a year to arrive....... Enjoy your new baby when it arrives.

How did the gig go by the way ? I'd have been all over this one - but had tickets to see Frankie Boyle in St Davids Hall - an altogether different kind of gig !
-
Great gig in Cardiff Uni last Thursday - haven't seen them since the Raven Tour to be honest. Indeed my first ever gig was the Stranglers at the Glasgow Apollo - Black and White album - 1979 ? ( with strippers !) Anyhoo, yes - it was a greatest hits fest - but what great tone and melody JJ Burnel has. His Shuker sounded excellent. The great thing was that they were all on form and having a blast. Highly recommended !

Ah yes - The VB-3 - that one has still to come out yet - 300watts and it weighs only 37 lbs ! - due to the use of a switched mode power supply instead of those heavy heavy transformers. Switched mode power supplies and are used in such amps such as the Ashdown Fly, MarkBass and GenzBenz NeoPack and Shuttle amps. Ampeg and Yamaha use them as well. The VB-3 is more enticing due to the tone and weigh saving prospects but perhaps the VB-2 is more traditional looking to my eyes. The cheapest I've seen the VB-2 go for is £785. So, good value for a 225watt all valve bass head. It does weigh 54lbs - could be worse I suppose. I think the VB-3 will be in the £1200 region but won't be out for some time yet - according to the rumours on the Talkbass forum...... Hope to hear some comments on the VB-2 soon.

Folks, Looking for comments on this reasonably new all-valve head. Looks mighty tempting........

Looks like there's a larger venue opening up too ! http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/7659275.stm

Jon, Ordered from LowEnd basses in the States. Still hasn't arrived yet - production has slowed down to (i) Bill (Nash) being out of action for a several weeks due to a rather bad car accident and (ii) a bad batch of necks who's truss rods didn't work. Will post piccies no doubt if it ever arrives......... Bill

J-Bass with P-neck? P-Bass with J pup configuration?
dmz replied to solo4652's topic in Bass Guitars
You could try these people: http://www.bhefnerco.com/bass.htm An alternative to Warmouth I suppose. I got a nice maple Jazz bass body and mated it with a fretless Fender Japan Precision neck, Added a set of DiMarzio UltraJazz pickups and a set of stacked pots, a Badass III bridge and bobs your uncle ! See results here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=...panese+fretless Good to deal with and great pricing. I would order neck and body separately - don't believe I got stung by customs ! Could also look at rondo - http://www.rondomusic.com/product828.html Good luck in your quest ! -
I had a US Glaub with and extra J pickup (factory fit) - not a single coil but a stacked humbucker - just like the P pickup - i believe they call it a linear humbucker. Anyway - gorgeous bass - neck was a dream to play with great fretwork - has graphite neck inserts that the Skylines don't have. To my ears you could play on the E and A strings well above the 12th fret and notes were still distinct and not at all fuzzy. Had all the P-bass attributes but with that extra humbucker you could add a nice edge to things if you wanted. I went mad and got rid of it as I wanted something more "aged" - have ordered a Nash 58 P-bass from the States - should arrive in the next few months I hope...... If you like P-basses you'll love a US Glaub. Bill

Inca silver would be a nice option - alder body with perhaps with an ebony fingerboard.......supersparkle if you want to be a tart.......... I just took delivery of a new Modern 24 5-string (Metro) - black/maple fingerboard with VTC - plays like a dream and you can get usable tones in every possible position of the bass/treble and VTC controls - I especially like the way you can dial in a nice traditional sound with the VTC and with a turn of the knob go to funk monster ! Good luck in your hunt I fancy a fretless Modern 24 5-er now - unlined maple fingerboard if poss - sunburst..........ah, one day..............
-
C'mon then - give us an idea what it sounds like - more piccies would be good too ........ I have a 5-string Modern 24 on the way - this week or next - I hope !

Great stuff Neil, Didn't this model come with the "high mass bridge" ? I love the Badass II on my P-bass - so I can imagine what it will do to the sound of your Jazz - a good bit more snap and funk - with more clearly defined notes and the harmonics should be more easy to achieve and more defined too. I fancy the fiesta red P-bass with the PJ set up -from Rondo - get some Di-Marzios or Wizards in there - a tort pick-guard and you're off ! Did you stick in any new pick-ups ? - I can recommend DiMarzio Ultrajazz - look 'em up on Harmony Central for reviews. Cheers Bill

Anything by Marcus Miller I would have thought........

Lovely looking bit of kit - if it plays as good as it looks, you are indeed one lucky guy. I have always lusted after one being a Percy Jones fan - maybe one day......... Funny what Dr Dave was saying about headstocks - I never got on with the look of the five string/six string headstocks - I much prefer the look the "custom" four string headstock. Would be nice to see a five string with a four string custom shaped headstock.

Nice lookin Jazz Paul ! Keep us updated if you do any mods to it. I imagine customs charges worked out at around 20% or so ?? All the best Bill
I'm thinking of trying a new amp to go with my Schroeder 1210L. I've found that the bass eq on the Acoustic Image is voiced too low, and hence is a poor combination with my Schroeder, as their low end extension is not massive. At present I can only boost the mids to thicken things up. I'm looking for suggestions folks, something clean, transparent, tight/quick response, and physically small & light (i.e. Class D or close to Class D in those qualities). Markbass sounds like a good option, but I am unsure at present. There's a multitude of combinations of amps and cabs out there and I don't know where to start. Mark
Well. I can suggest a second hand or new (if you can find one) Genz Benz Neopack 3.5. This consists of a valve pre with class D power amp section. In combination with a 1212L the sound is warm and expressive. Has bags of tone with my Darkstar equpped P-bass and Lakland 55-01 (sadly now gone). If the band I'm now in takes off - would like to get a second 1212L. I believe the amp with one 4 ohm 1212L is 350 watts and with two 4 ohm 1212L's is 500 watts. Makes for a very light and portable combination. Cheers Bill
