From the Squier website..... If you don't have a subwoofer I doubt you'll get much sound coming at you from the neck pickup part of the demo Doesn't want for low frequencies !

Just noticed the 1960 Rickenbacker 4000 for sale on eBay atm - got me thinking - could we ever see Rickenbacker bringing out a reissue - or would that devalue their "iconic" status ? ......or possibly devalue the market value of such basses ? Would there be a market for such a beast - probably not much - but I'm sure Rickenbacker nuts out there would salivate at the prospect of getting one. Heck, I'd salivate over a 70's series 4000 re-issue....... Can you imagine the price though Seems to me there would also be a reasonable market for a slab bodied P-bass a la John Entwistle - given Fenders propensity for coming up with all manner of permutations of things - this surely has to be high up there ? Maybe it will remain an expensive Custom Shop option for the well heeled amongst us.

.....I've never heard of him either.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B3ynhcgxgzo Interesting take on a P-bass - would be nice with a tort pickguard methinks. Swap neck with Black J Bass for the latest Geddy Lee look ? Squire doing some really nice stuff at the moment what with this and the Telecaster basses......

Joan Armitrading on Sky Arts NOW (10.45pm) with JG on bass - Cropredy Festival - look out for repeats !!

Stanley Clarke has released some great funky pop albums over the years - Time Exposure, Find Out - you could also try the Clarke/Duke Project albums - 1, 2 or 3 - most have been re-mastered recently too. Definitely worth a punt !

You could try half-grounds - which as you might expect are a half-way house between flats and rounds. I have a set of Status Hot Wire half grounds on a fretless jazz that has a Status neck - sound ace ! They won't chew up your fingerboard anywhere near as much and have more high frequency presence when you need such things. Your choice will really depend on what sound you are going far more than anything else - if you want a more double bass kind of sound I'd say try some good flats (TI's) or try some half grounds. If you want a more modern sound and like to slap/play harmonics - I'd go with the rounds.

This is a nice little ditty....... ...Laurence Cottle on his fretless Wal I (very much) suspect.

All great stuff - the guys at Statii.com will be going crazy over Chris's twin neck Status - that iPad controller on the top "bass" is just mental ! Does Damien Hirst play drums for PIL now ?
-
I'd love to have one again one day - preferably a 4003S. Anything different about the 2012 model - Or is it generally the same spec as the 2010 ?
-
Wasn't Jean-Jacques Burnel on a while back too talking about No More Heroes ? There must be a bass player on the production team. Sweepstake as to who will be next ?

Oopsdabassist Posted Today, 10:21 AM Focus 3 is STILL on my essential ipod playlist, anonymus 2 is just awe inspiring! ........I feel the same about Live at the Rainbow. Jan Akkermans playing just sends me !

Beardfish - The Void They've gone over to the dark (heavy) side.......

Very, very nice indeed ! I too would love to build one of these. Definitely one for the future.........

Thanks for the input so far guys. I'm based in South Wales so would be difficult to pop over of an evening. To be honest I could quite readily have one of each as there are aspects of the design in each I just love. Unfortunately my pockets aren't that deep. I have a few interesting basses that I could perhaps trade with people on this forum or Statii if they have one of the above on offer. As of this week, I have to admit a hankering for some kind of bolt-on headless 5-string Status, be it a Series 5000, an Energy 5, S-1 or the like.....anyone out there ? Just noticed this on youtube - nicely bonkers ! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CwfTO-ymKgw&feature=channel&list=UL ......even Rob Green would approve of the ending i'm sure.

Hope the Moderator doesn't mind me posting this here as well as elsewhere on the forum. Saving up my pennies for one of the following Status 5-string headless fretted basses; Stealth Streamline Kingbass Graphite Obviously these three will each feel quite different "in the hand" as it were. Would like to get some opinons about sound and feel from those Status owners on the forum. Currently trying to register with Statii.com but having IT issues with the site. Plan on going over to Colchester at some point to try them out if Rob has them available. Would be a good day out methinks ! May try and look for a second hand Energy Matrix 5 headless if such things exist in the interim.

Smut, Smut, Smut ! Looks like it will fun to own and play.
-
I used to have a 5-string version. Yes, you'll get a more modern Jazz Bass kinda sound out of it - not only that - I seem to remember getting a good Rickenbacker style klang out of it as well. Very underrated basses - its more pricey brethren take the limelight, sure, but most definitely worth a punt.
-
Anyone has experience of this latest version with bass ??
-
I saw him at the Blue Note in New York in 2010 - did two sets but only saw the first one, a set with him on double bass. Great gig, made all the better by having Hiromi on piano ! I'd love to see him play one of his his Alembics mind ....

......our Stan and Stewart in Paris: Love the 5 string Alembic - no doubt tuned EADGC so he can do his tenor bass duties. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFvrnmCSM7E&feature=related Fusiontastic ! Does he prefer the tone of a 30 inch scale instrument over a 34 or 32 inch one ? - I seem to remember reading that he felt it had a bit more bark than the others. Well, when you are playing what he is playing, I guess you are not looking for too much "thud"
