Sorry to hear about the loss of this nice piece of kit. I always fancied (and still do fancy) a black one of these - with mirror scratchplate of course - to go for the authentic Phil Lynott look. Hope it turns up safe and sound.

Makes you want to put a mirror scratchplate on your P-bass......
-
Geez Al what ARE you thinking.......get her fretted - think of all that time you spent speccing her, saving for her, researching....... You can get ebony inlays to replace the existing ones on the side of the fingerboard. Would look nice with some maple dots actually on the fingerboard along with the frets - a la US Lakland Still loving the 6-string Thumb by the way

This is a bummer - I'd love to be there but will be attending mates wedding in Scotland that weekend. Didn't Eltham Jones attend the last one - giving handy set up tips. I say that as Eltham has just sorted out a problem with the bridge on my Nash 58 P-Bass. I could ask if he's available ......if no-one knows him already that is ! Jan Akkerman playing the Globe in Cardiff on Sunday night (1st May) so could be one great day.

The fretless 5-string deluxe alien rockbass got a good review in bass guitar magazine last year. Looking on the Thomann website they quoted a price of £540 or so shipped to the UK. Never seemed to have any in stock mind, with likely arrival dates of Jan 2011 and Feb 2011 passing. When you look now, the estimated time of arrival is June 2011. Don't know what issues they are experiencing. I believe the fretted bass is more universally available. Will hold out till the fretless becomes available...... Good way of getting into the acoustic bass I think. If you really get into it you can always save up for the non-rockbass equivalent. Mind you, that Tacoma 5-string is very appealing. You'd like to believe that Warwick tried solid woods but didn't think there was much advantage. Who knows.......

Up for grabs is a newish - 1 year old - H&K 7-string fretted bass. Supplied with new strings (Rotosound). Plays very well - really great neck. Body has a scuff mark on it - it arrived that way but is readily buffed out. Would make a great instrument to see if the 7-string thing is for you. I'm selling as the 7-string thing isn't really for me - 4, 5 or 6 is enough already ! If you live near Newport South Wales you'd be more than welcome to come try her out. Looking for £275 for her plus shipping - cost £475 new - so a bit of a bargain I would say. No trades please !

Warwick Corvette Zebrano II upgraded with Nordstrand Preamp
dmz replied to TheDaivisch's topic in Bass Guitars
Good to know - I have a 5-string Pro-M and a 6-string Thumb that could do with such pre's. I really do hate the hissy noisy pre-amps they currently have....... -
RE The Glasgow gig - was it the "Blue Matter" tour ? - if so a drummer friend of mine saw that very same gig. Was amazed to see DC's roadie put an ANVIL inside his bass drum to stop it from moving. You couldn't make it up.......
-
He he - the bees knees ! Saw this couple play with John Scofield in Long Island in 1988 - Grainger got a 15 minute bass solo ! After DC had his drum solo there was a standing ovation..... Superb band - would love to see then get together again.

I'll certainly keep tabs on the fingerboard wear situation. I had a Lakland 55-02 modded by The Gallery in Camden and the unlined maple board was given a lovely thick polyurethane coating which has proven to be quite robust. So, if there is a problem on that front I can get them to do it. I believe Mr Shuker can do such work as well, though I am sure I have heard mention of others. Please feel free to post your recommendations !

Hi Phil, I believe they (B.Hefner) can do the early 50's headstock shape if you want to preserve the vintage look. Shoot - now you're giving me ideas ! I got my P Bass neck from the very same model of bass as Andy Travis above - natural ash body - and put it on a MIJ sunburst P-Bass body. I got my MIJ instruments from Ishibashi in Japan in 2006. Don't think they sell new instruments now due to Fender getting all uppity, but I imagine it's not a problem for used instruments. Another possible source I suppose but not likely to be as fruitful as US e-bay or B.Hefner. If you do go down the B. Hefner route you'll have to add tuners as well mind.... Don't forget piccies when you get the bass you want !

Have decided to thin out the collection a bit - so up for grabs is a Nash 58 P-Bass I ordered from the Low End shop in the US in 2008. http://www.thelowend.net/thelowend/index.htm Ash body with 3-tone sunburst, Lollar pickup, maple fingerboard and medium ageing by Mr Nash..... Yes - there is an "F-decal" - obtained and fitted by my good self. Plays great - the neck is a dream and perhaps not for Jazz Bass lovers as it is vintage "C" type - so 1.75 inch at the nut and a good handful. Looking for £895 plus shipping. These beasties cost £1500 or so new in the UK so something of bargain I believe. If you live near South Wales you'd be more than welcome to come over and try her out - PM me if interested. Doesn't come with a case but can wrap her up well or perhaps you can come over and take her home with you ! No trades please ! Unlined maple fretless fingerboard P-bass necks are not that common - so unless you want to wait a long time - I'd suggest these people http://www.bhefner.com/ Funnily enough I've just received an unlined maple fingerboard equipped Jazz bass neck for a project I am putting together. - very happy with it. A quick look on their site shows a P-bass neck with nut and satin or gloss polyurethane coating comes in at $238 - so around £158 - you'll have to add shipping and tax/import duty - so you should get one all in for about the £200 mark. See a quick piccie I took......

Most excellent gig ! Nice grindy distorted P-bass sounds The general sound was a good bit harder edged than on the studio albums - this girl knows how to rock ! Don't miss her next time round..... I've just got the iRig setup for bass primarily and though it has taken a while to get into it - sounds good - latency is minimal. You can record (4-track) and play along with mp3 files. Headphones - not yet sussed that out yet ! http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irig/features/

I have loved JT's work since Sports Car days - have just got back into her albums and bought some CD's from her website - autographed by her good self ! I saw her live on the Shoot the Moon tour in the Glasgow Pavillion - oh - way back when..... Would have loved to see her on this tour but she played Bristol when I was on holiday. Hope to see her tour in the near future - please tour again !

I may put up my 7-string fretted version for sale in the near future. Would probably sell for £300 plus shipping - can supply piccies if need be - this is only a feeler for interest. Please PM me if interested. If the moderator has a problem with this I can set up a feeler in the proper area.
