1.
Hüsker Dü, 'Diane'. We lost a guitarist to that song; he quit rather than play it. Though it's more about shock value, I suppose.
Now this is a genuinely frightening song, a masterpiece in the most macabre way. I love Husker Du but that song is too much sometimes.
2. I love the thread about P bass appreciation on BC right now! Anyone fancy a Jazz Bass one? Again, it doesn't have to be a Fender, just a Jazz type bass - interpret as you wish! So my first (and only) Jazz is the one below, I bought it new in 2005 from the Academy of Sound (RIP) in Leeds. I used a R**********r and a Stingray up to that point but during an album recording session the producer (Welsh idiot Owen Morris) suggested using a magical Squier Jazz he owned. It had some custom pickups in (i don't know which, I didn't really care at the time, how times change) and it was the one used by Mark Hamilton on Free All Angels album he produced by Ash. The strings were really old and dead but sounded great in the mix so I relented, I was used to the Stingray zing so it took some convincing! I owned my Jazz for years and then sold in it a misguided wave of Stingray nostalgia. Luckily I was able to get it back recently and have been smitten since retrieving ownership. It is nothing remarkable, just a black USA Jazz, but it sounds great and served me well and I won't ever let it go again. To be honest, I am more of a P bass man but this one has the weight of nostalgia attached to it and I can't stop playing it! Uploads not working for me so here is a link to a pic of mine. https://www.dropbox.com/s/gue51ma3d8kcqyo/20150326_212153.jpg?dl=0 Lets see and hear those Jazz bass tales! Julian
3. People saying "rocked up" when referring to someone arriving somewhere. Where does that come from?
4. 10 years ago I was at a gig (as a punter) in a small pub. The PA had a short burst of feedback and as a result I now have next to no hearing in my left ear, I only hear really really low or really really high frequencies in that particular ear, so 99% of sound is lost. It led to raging tinnitus too, although I did have that beforehand but to a lesser degree. The tests that followed showed nerve damage with no remedy. It has taught me that even watching a band in a pub can be hazardous. I appreciate that my hearing loss is probably a freak event though. The test in the link above showed only mild loss in my other ear thankfully! I
5. Wow what a surprise! Untouched for 20 odd years, thats brilliant. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
6.
Before anything kicks off, can I just say 'play nicely please chaps'? Ta.
No worries Rich, all done here anyway!
7.
Unlikely..... I'd probably be thinking he doesn't know what he is doing and so he defaults to what he thinks he knows... Tell me what the bass is and there might be one or two genuine mistakes, but if they sold it in the 70's they would have sold it for pennies... I sold a 75 Jazz for £250 and it would be worth £1600 today in some ones mind...but if you think I'd pay that for that dog of dogs, IMO..you must be barking..
Yeah the fella is wrong, we are all wrong on here, may as well lock the thread now because JTUK thinks we don't know what we are doing. He knows best it seems. Or alternatively he could post on a thread he has an interest in and stop trolling this one.
8. My little boy who is 4 loves Blur! We had the Best of Blur album on in the car today and that prompted me to learn Boys and Girls and Charmless Man this evening. Great bass lines, really good fun to play too. Boys and Girls has that disco type line that we all know but Charmless Man is pretty good too, the feel of it took a while for me to get right. Good P bass tone too, solid as a rock.
9.
Oh, I've had some dogs...well, relatively, but I think I learnt pretty quickly what I wanted in a bass so they got less doggy after each one. I also don't tend to change what I do for the gig... so don't need loads of different basses to do it. I've done 'modern'...and have no plans to go back to it. I guess it depend if you think you know what you want and are doing..? I get an onward and upward curve and that is what Gas is for but not a u-turn?
I'm not sure if GAS comes into what is being discussed here, this is like the thread you should read if you have GAS because it might help you realise the grass isn't always greener as neepheid says! Nostalgia plays a big part too, it is like having an old bass is like keeping an important photo or letter or memento of a memorable time and place. The same fella who I have just bought my Jazz back from is on the hunt for his old 60's Precision, he had to sell it in the late 70's when he lost his job, he gigged it all through the late 60's and 70's. He looks on eBay, Gumtree and Preloved all the time to see if it turns up. Try telling him that you don't understand why anyone would want an old bass back and I am sure he would change your mind.
10.
Grass is always greener... Also, sometimes people have to eat or maintain the roof over their heads more pressingly than they need to keep possession of a bass.
Yep, in a perfect world I would have kept every bass I have ever owned. Sometimes though times are hard and needs must. If you have never been in that situation then I guess you wouldn't understand. Also, some basses are sold when they are not being used because of the type of music you play, then things change and you wish you had them again. I do wonder why people who dont have a 'lost dog' are posting here. To say you don't get people (4 pages worth) who wish they had an old bass back is out of order.
11.
I had a USA Fender Jazz, black with black pickguard and rosewood neck. It was a 2005 I think with the S1 switching thing, even though I never used that feature. A good solid bass that never ever let me down and did all kinds of mileage with me. So although it's not a 60's P bass, or anything near as special as that, I wish I still had it!
I got it back last week! I am chuffed to bits with it. The bloke who had it was pretty good at setting basses up and it plays better than when I sold it. It is a keeper now!
12.
You miss the point. The way you are expressing yourself is annoying people somewhat more than the subject you are discussing. J.
Yep, that is exactly it. It has been an interesting thread to read though!
13. Hi Conan I had a go through one of these at Electro music in Doncaster last year and I distorted in the way you describe, I pointed this out to a member of staff and they said it must be faulty. Of course this might be unrelated totally to your issue but it rang alarm bells when I read the original post here. Hope you get it sorted soon!

15. At least when Mark Ronson does a cover he acknowledges the fact. How Noel Gallagher has not been sued yet for plagiarism is beyond me. He wrote a handful of songs that captured a period of time. That was about 20 years ago, now he means virtually nothing. When your interviews are more entertaining than your albums it is time to give up.
16. I should be there by 12, on the Megabus of doom down to London right now. It is my first time at the event, looking forward to it! The guitar to bass ratio at all the shows I have been to recently has been 99:1 so this should be a nice change.
17. Kane purchased my Fender Precision last night. Great communications and a stress free sale! He arrived on time, tested the bass and then paid on the spot, what more could you ask for?! I would definitely recommend to all. Julian
18. This bass is now (definitely) sold! Thanks for the interest everyone.
19. Cheers omikin and thebassist! It sold but the buyer had to pull out. I priced it to sell but I guess that only works if the demand is there, I think I was taught that in A level Economics! I knew it would come in useful one day...
20. Cheers Rich! I am only selling to get my old bass back, if it doesn't go soon at this price I will just keep it and find the cash elsewhere. Hope you are well mate!
21.
Had to withdraw the JV. In the end I couldn't do it! If your old Is that good it would be rude not to get it back, given the opportunity! The Eden stuff is great but I'm quite happy with the Berg and a lovely little Purple Chilli 112 addon! If you have noticed the Eden has gone down in price to £485.00!
Hope you manage to sell the Eden soon mate, I have a pretty good idea how you could spend the £485! Some good interest here so far but nothing sorted yet!
22. Hello! Nothing too bad. It is betwen the 2nd and 5th frets. I have added a photo to the Dropbox link to show it as well as I can.
23. I've seen your JV up for sale on here Dunc! Nice! The Eden stuff too. I love this P bass but I cant let the chance to buy back an old friend pass me by.
24. New price. My old Jazz is calling me!
