1. Hi everyone £485 I have the unexpected opportunity to buy back the bass I wrote about in the 'lost dogs' thread, so as a result I am putting this bass up for sale again. It is priced to sell so I can buy back my old jazz bass! It is a 2002/03 USA Fender Precision bass. Sunburst body, black pickguard and maple neck. The serial number Z2052268 returns a Corona manufacture in 2002/2003. I don't know the weight, it's no back breaker though as I have a glass back! I got the bass about a 18 months ago from what was then the Manchester Bass Lounge. I changed the white pickguard to an official Fender black one and I put in a KiOgen wiring kit. I would include the original pickguard and the official Fender tortoise shell one shown on some of the photos here. Please note that the photos show Seymour Duncan pickups, I have now removed these and the bass will be traded with the stock pickups. It is strung with D'Addario Chrome flats at the moment, they are a few months old so just starting to get nice! It has been gigged and loved, there are a few knocks (see pics) to give mojo and some fret wear, in the interests of full disclosure I will add that the G string machine head is ever so (and I mean ever so!) slightly bent but has no effect on functionality whatsoever. Overall it's a killer bass and does what a USA Fender Precision should! Send me your email for better quality photos if needed! I am in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. Could meet within a reasonable distance of M1 J38-40 or M62 J25. I have a the Fender hard case so shipping is a possibility at the buyers expense, never shipped a bass before though so would rather not. Priced to sell at £485 so can't take any less than that I'm afraid. Cheers Julian https://www.dropbox....3ztXgmzGT4TDWla

3. Met up with Dunc today to receive his Orange combo in a trade. Top bloke and the easiest of transactions. Cheers mate!
4. Replied! Still available. Wouls trade/px for a Fender Jazz or Squier Classic Vibe Jazz. Cash adjustment either way.

Here is my Markbass Littlemark 3 (there is be a separate advert for my Bergantino HD112). This was purchased from Richardd late last year, don't really want to sell but I wont be playing live for some time, I will be using the cash to fund a good quality combo. It is in excellent condition. Collection preferred, I am based in Wakefield West Yorkshire. I could meet within a reasonable distance of M1 J38 or M62 J25 if that helps. If you need any more information then let me know. Would consider a trade for an equivalent quality combo. The photos aren't uploading properly so here is a drop box link https://www.dropbox....xNc9-DND2a?dl=0 Thanks for looking. Julian
6. Hello everyone Due to a change in personal circumstances I am putting up for sale my amplification. First up is this Bergantino HD112 cab (there will be a separate advert for my Markbass LM3). I purchased this from Richardd late last year and its an amazing cab. I would rather not be parting with it but I wont be playing live for some time, I will be using the cash to fund a bass. It is in really great condition, the only flaws are a slight scuff on the tolex and the metal corners have a couple of marks too as shown in the photo. Collection preferred, I am based in Wakefield West Yorkshire. I could meet within a reasonable distance of M1 J38 or M62 J25 if that helps. If you need any more information then let me know. Would consider a trade for a good Fender MIM Jazz or an Olympic white/rosewood/tort Classic Vibe Jazz. Thanks for looking, the pic of the cover isn't uploading, I will try to add it later - it is a proper Bergantino HD112 one though in excellent condition. 7. The first Mr Bungle album.
8. I've been using a single Bergantino HD112 recently and it sounds enormous. I have always used 4x10 cabs and sometimes a 1x15. I can't imagine what two of these bad boys together would sound like cranked!!
9.
was your dad a fan of tv series The High Chapparal? Blue was the ranch bosses son's name. late 60's early 70's. That dates me too! ;-) Well done on the audition. You auditioned them too & it wasn't quite right for you. Decision made best for both no need for any guilt.
I'm pretty sure it's from The Champ, I don't remember him watching that particular show you mention. Thanks for the easing my guilt!
10.
Useful for home practice with a TH500 so I don't have to fine tune the amp vol knobs down to their 'only just on' point. Otherwise full.
That's the only reason I ever turn the volume down too. Otherwise it's full whack always, I have this niggling feeling that I am not getting the most out of the pickups if I don't have it on full!
11.
If you have to travel far it really becomes a chore very quickly. Then if any minor grievance surfaces it gets magnified out of all proportion, because you tend to think along the lines of, 'There's THAT issue, AND I have to bloody drive all this distance to rehearse...' so it's counter productive. I know, I've done it more than once. Good luck for your next audition though - the more you do, the better you get at them, ask the right questions, take a step back, get everything in proportion and decide if it really is for you or not.
Yeah I have been in bands where people have travelled far and you are so right. It never works, anything over 45 minutes travel to the rehearsal puts me off. Thanks for the advice! I have played in bands for years and this is the first time I have ever really had to think about auditions and stuff. It's good to know that people are willing to share their experiences and wisdom!
12. I like the 'passing notes' bit, I am going to use that one. If I ever play a wrong note I usually just say it's a jazz thing if anyone mentions it.
13.
Kudos for not going for it if it didn't feel right for you. There's a lot to be said for going with your gut. I don't go anywhere without mine. However, if it had been SOLELY down to the shape of a guitar or whether the kit was electric..? These things wouldn't bother me in the least IF what the guitarist and drummer were actually playing was good. I say IF... Good drummers are WAY too rare to worry about what their kits look like. If the drummer's good there's at least a chance the band will be, too. Good luck for your next audition! I hope the guitars will be the right shape in future!!
They were good musicians and good people. The pointy guitar and the electronic drumkit weren't the sole factors. Geographically the band members were spread out between Oldham, Wakefield, Leeds and Retford. They hadn't thought of the best location to rehearse and I wasn't really up for travelling to Oldham or Retford. I know that some of you are big fans of electronic kits (a new thread has appeared on them!) but it just didn't feel right to me. That's just my personal take on them though, others have their own opinions and rightly so. It has been really cool seeing people comment on this thread, thanks for all the advice beforehand (it worked!) and also your opinions on what went on at the actual audition. Looking forward to the next one when it comes along, hopefully my boring traditional tastes in equipment will not get in the way of my decision making again!
14. I generally just tune up and then look self conscious and uncomfortable until the chorus kicks in.
15.
Julian, In your thread opening you stated you were looking for a band or project to join? That can mean a lot of different things. Can you share with us specifically why you declined the offer? What was the deal breaker? Or was it basically the material, electronic drums and the new guitarist with the 80s Ibanez Steve Vai thing? All those those things would have been serious concerns for me too. Blue
Hi Blue I think it was mainly the Ibanez and the electronic drums, the material was fine by me. If it had been an acoustic drum kit, and the guitarist had played a Strat or a Les Paul(for example) and didn't want to be Joe Satriani, then I would probably have said yes. Maybe that makes me shallow but it's like lonestar said in his post, the little things that irk start to mean more over time! By the way, my dad always called me Blue as a nickname from the age of about 2. I think he got it from a film. The Champ maybe?
16.
The volume control is to turn the bass down either a little, or completely to zero, depending on needs. Of course, if that's never needed, one could do without. You're the player; it's your call.
Yeah I just wondered if anyone used it to shape their overall sound or tone. I automatically reach for the volume on my amp head if I want to make adjustments, I have no idea why!
17. I have a P bass and just put the volume on full all of the time. Does anyone know of any tone benefits or drawbacks of having the volume at less than full? I just wonder sometimes why a single pickup bass such as a Precision would have a master volume. I get it when basses have separate pickup volume. Can anyone enlighten me? Am I dim and missing a trick?! It is highly likely...
18. Hello everyone! I went to the audition last night and here is what happened. Got there a little bit early, it was just starting to snow so I half expected a call saying it had been cancelled. The drummer, keyboard player and vocalist were there setting the brand new PA up (a good one too, I was impressed), their own equipment was already good to go. It was upstairs in a rugby club bar; a boomy room that sounded awful from the off, but band member logistics meant that it was a good location for them all to rehearse. I am naturally (crushingly at times) shy and quiet so meeting new people can be a challenge. They were all really amenable and outgoing though so it felt pretty comfortable straight away. So far so good. They had just found a new guitarist and it was when he arrived and set up that I started to have a few doubts. He thought he was Steve Vai. I am there with a sunburst Fender P bass and he has one of those Ibanez Vai type models with the cut out handle hole in the body. He could play, there is no doubt about that, but there are only so many harmonic dive bombs my ears can take before they start leaking blood. He was a nice bloke though. I knew the songs inside out so there were no issues there, we actually sounded pretty good to say it was the first run through of the songs. I just had that gut feeling that I wasn't really into it. They play a lot of 1980s songs, OK stuff though, not Bronski Beat or anything. The second thing (after Steve Vai) that turned me off being fully into it was that the drummer had an electronic drum kit. It really suited the music and the Kraftwerk cover sounded great but I like to look at the drum kit, lock in and hear it, last night I was looking at the kit and the sound was coming from the PA whilst the kit was silent. It's the first time I have ever played with an electronic kit, it was a bit weird and it felt unsettling like when you are watching a film and the motion and audio are slightly out of sync. So we had some chit chat after, I could tell that they were happy with how it went but they didn't really give much away. I asked about rehearsals and gig aspirations and they were pretty much the same as mine. I drove back wondering if I was being shallow because I didn't like the pointy Ibanez and the electronic drum kit. I got a text today from the drummer asking if I would be interested if they were to offer me the position. I had to go with my gut, I said that I would have to pass because it's not what I am looking for right now. I wished them well and thanked them for the audition invite. I actually really enjoyed it, but they weren't the band for me. They were really nice people and were really good musicians, I feel a bit guilty for some reason.
19. Thanks everyone you are very kind. I will report back later!
20. The audition was called off last Wednesday due to snow, it has been rearranged for this evening. I will update you on how it goes! Really looking forward to it, I know the songs inside out. At the very least it will be nice to make some noise, its been a while!
21. Change of plan so now withdrawn, thanks for the interest!
22. Edited listing type bump!
23.
Hi there... I'll take it! Will PM you details.
Thank god for that, I was just about to get myself into trouble.
24. Live and Dangerous = memories of my dad. A bittersweet album.
