Jimi has just bought my Orange Terror Bass 500. He is by far the coolest person I have encountered on basschat when buying or selling. Why? Well, thanks to Parcelforce the amp head didn't work when he received it, orange light on but no sound. I received a really friendly message from Jimi telling me about the condition of the amp and that he was going to get it checked out and then let me know what the issue was. I was gutted and assured him that the amp was working before shipping because I had tested it and he was fine and agreed that the issue must have arisen in transit. So Jimi went to get the head checked out, I sent him a spare valve just in case that might be the problem. Turns out it was just a loose connection, maybe vibrations or movement in transit had caused it. Anyway, no stress from Jimi, he took it all in his stride and was a gent throughout. He restored my faith in basschat to 100%, especially after a particularly negative experience earlier this year. To top it all off, his band are amazing. I am hoping to go see the Orange in action with them in November. Cheers Jimi!

Went down to Grantham today to pick up a pristine Little Mark 3. Had good coffee and a good chat with Richard and his wife, two of the nicest people you could wish to meet! Sorry my little boy was a bit grumpy! Thank you!

I have found that if we were already mates before the band got together then we usually continue to be friends after. If we became friends as a result of being in a band then the friendship is not quite as close after. I have never been in a band with someone I don't like, or someone who is on a different page musically. That's the most pretentious thing I have ever written by the way.

PRICE DROP £260!!! Hi everyone Need to get something that doesn't loosen my house bricks so I am selling this amp head. It's crazy loud and sounds amazing when cranked with a band but I am taking a break from bands for a while so want something that is a bit more manageable at home at lower volumes. Its been gigged so not pristine but in good condition. It has the matching gig bag thing too. £260 collected , I am in Wakefield, couple of miles off J38 of the M1. I don't really want to post it, I'm guessing it will be about £20 though at a push! I am open to trades, could put a bit of cash your way too for the right amp - wouldn't mind a TC RH450 or a Markbass Little Mark. Thanks for looking! Julian

Hi everyone £75 posted price drop!! Bought this a couple of months ago from a fellow basschatter. Its a genius piece of kit! I need to get some cash together for my new GAS condition so I am having a clearout of things. I will post pics this evening, in the meantime here is the link to the ad that I bought from. Its in used condition as you can see but functions perfectly. http://basschat.co.u..._1#entry2534484 My pics, sorry about the quality of the PSU one. You can see it has velcro on the back in pick 4. I dont have the box or the original USB cable or the software CD. Included will be a replacement cable I purchased, the software can be downloaded from the Zoom website (it will be more up to date than the original software sold with the unit too). If you like I could try putting the software on a CD to send with the unit. Thanks for looking! Julian

The blue and green albums were great, Pinkerton is one of my favourite records of all time. Maladroit was the beginning of the end for me and I always felt like they changed from that point on. Then that song Beverley Hills totally killed it for me. It seemed like a novelty song in the same way as Pretty Fly for a White Guy was for The Offspring. Still like the first 3 records though!
Darcy with her stingray in 1992 was basically my idea of heaven, these days I think I'd rather have a go on her stingray though, lol. Anyone know what type of bass Billy used in the studio? I guess must good studios in the 90s had a P, J and MM knocking around, or something totally different.
http://www.mlive.com/news/kalamazoo/index.ssf/2011/02/former_smashing_pumpkins_bassi.html Aaargh!!
Of course to get the real Darcy tone you need either Billy Corgan to play the parts on who knows what type of bass? Or her other lesser known P or J option
Haha! Good point! There is some footage on youtube of them doing Ava Adore on Jools Holland, the bass sound on that during the first verse is amazing! I liked Darcy, they never were the same without her, she looks a bit funny now mind...

This is a general outline of my relationship with the Precision and Jazz bass- January - Yep, I am a definitely a P bass man. February - this Jazz is awesome, it's definitely my go to bass now. March - Aw man this P is amazing, flats and foam! April - Heavy Weather! What an album! Where's my Jazz bass?.... May - Sugar Copper Blue, wow! Now that is why the P bass is my favourite bass of all. June - I hear Evil by Interpol, that Jazz rocks! July - 'Whats Goin On' playing on Radio 2.... August - I just found some Smashing Pumpkins bass tracks on YouTube... September - Bobby Vega... October - Wow look! Bob Dylan with a Jazz bass! They really are aesthetically pleasing. November - I just rehearsed with the P bass and I heard every note of every song coming through the mix - P bass forever. December - Ooh look! That Jazz on basschat for sale is cool, I am having it... (Divorce lawyer on the horizon) Repeat year upon year upon year!

Watching/supporting basschatters at a gig?
interpol52 replied to paulbass's topic in General Discussion
Im hoping to see AndyDye in his band next month in Sheffield, the fantastically named Fargo Railroad Co. I contacted him at random for some information on Kiogen wiring kits after reading his comments about them. It turns out we know eachother from being in bands as teenagers! We used to play gigs together. Small world eh? Top fella, looking forward to seeing them! -
Maggie May. The only redeeming feature of that song is that I can mess up as much as I like and it will still sound authentic. Stones tunes always annoy me too, it's like I can play note for note inside out but I still sound awful!

All I can do here is add how amazing the service is that John provides. Just received a Precision kit and a Jazz wiring kit. Fitted the P one already with ease thanks to the clear instructions, there was even a little screwdriver in the package, good eh?! No more soldering for me! I will be ordering more as my bass collection grows. Thanks John!

Great guy and really great to sell to, great communication. I recommend! Thanks Ray!

Hi everyone On holiday in France and can't sleep. Just been 'counting basses', it's like counting sheep but with basses that have been and gone over the years! So by the wonders of free hotel wifi I thought I would start something with you all. Two simple questions. 1. Which bass do you wish you had kept hold of? 2. Which bass turned out to be a stinker? My answers 1. R*ck*nb*ck*r 4001 - a 1975 beauty, sounded like nothing else before or since, sold it when money was tight. Bad move. 2. Musicman Stingray - it had the weak G string problem, it drove me nuts. I wish I still had all the basses I have ever owned!

So here goes, these are split in to Teen Days, Young Days and Middle Age Days. Old Days to follow in about 20 years... Teen Days Metallica - ...and Justice for All Guns n Roses - Appetite for Destruction Helloween - Keeper of the Seven Keys 1 and 2 Iron Maiden - Powerslave and Number of the Beast Primus - Frizzle Fry Young Days Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American Interpol - Antics Gene - Libertine The Strokes - Is This It Subcircus - Carousel Longpigs - Mobile Home Middle Age Days Weather Report - Heavy Weather John Coltrane - Blue Train Jaco Pastorius - eponymous And more to come... Not very exciting but they have all been important in some way or other.
Talking Heads - 77 Television - Marquee Moon Pixies - Doolittle Nirvana - Nevermind Fugazi - The Argument Fever Ray - Fever Ray Interpol - Antics and loads more I've yet to think about...
Carlos D! I have often wondered why people don't mention the bass lines of Interpol more. I have listened to Antics more than any other album ever recorded!
