  1. He didn't say it would be better, he actually used the words "will be as good". (You actually quoted him - did you forget to read it properly)? But since you ask, its possible that a digital copy made many years ago, possibly at the time it was originally recorded, will be better if the analogue tape has subsequently degraded. Also, since lossless copies can be made, and stored in places such as data warehouses or disparate locations, there is a much greater chance it will exist where the analogue original has been lost.
  2. I've seen plenty of full-range active speakers with a socket which accepts XLR and 1/4" jack; and switchable from line to mic level - so it could take an instrument input and the controls be adjusted to amplify it adequately. But I am not so sure about subwoofers having a mic-level input. I quick survey shows some can accept 1/4" jack (but not many). So your first challenge will be to find a subwoofer it can physically connect to. I imagine the very non-linear frequency response will be the next challenge.
  3. It seems to be a modern phenomenon, if there's something you don't like/it annoys you/etc, instead of simply ignoring it and moving on, to publically comment about it on an internet forum. If people simply moved on to something better, then the bad ones would get fewer views (I believe the YouTube platform also monitors how much of a video is watched, not just if it were clicked on eg accidentally) and shuffle down the list of suggested videos (you know, the algorithm which puts suggestions on the home page or along the right hand side). People are intelligent too (well, some) and clickbait is fairly easy to avoid - or if not, shouldn't take too long to realise and not watch the whole thing. If the rubbish wasn't continually stirred up, it would settle at the bottom.
  4. The worry is, how did it go from a bunch of residents complaining to Guildford Borough Council starting legal action on behalf of them? Especially if there was recent legislation and no prospect of success. Sounds like a massive waste of public funds etc.
  5. The people who need them (because they're reading music, because they're not sufficiently familiar with it to have it in memory) are clearly very skilled, in different ways than those who play simpler songs over and over and over again. Also in different genres, its perfectly acceptable (and necessary, and preferred) to read music than the time/effort to memorise it.
  6. That guy knows how to "play" YouTube better than Scott Devine!
  7. I'm surprised nobody has answered this, I thought there would be something out there. Also what would be useful is a player where you can vary the playback speed (independent of pitch) - I have a particularly yukky sax/trumpet solo to transcribe so I did a half-speed same-pitch version, but I needed to make it specially (in Reaper). For the slight out-of-tuning and playing along issue, I do all my transcribing using a fretless which is really handy because you can get around the issue no problems at all!
  8. General consensus is that bass is directionless while higher treble is much more directional, and of course you'll lose proximity effect. So they are useful for guitar amps. I guess it would make the controls more convenient to access for a bass amp but I'd be worried about the alteration to the tone/sound/bass.
  9. You asked for advice, if you have already decided.......
  10. Yeah its just a crappy, lazy piece of clickbait.
  11. When I bought my fretless it came with roundwounds and I hated them, it was clearly obvious (at least for me) that flatwounds were the right thing to have. Regarding tone, its just a case of adjusting the EQ as needs be. Don't worry too much about trying to mimic exactly, a particular timbre of someone else for now. I know it sounds daft but sometimes, just turning up the amp much higher, then forcing yourself to play very quietly, can alter it so it works out. I am troubled by your saying you're boosting and cutting the volume during a song - can't you do that in your playing? Regarding intonation, its just down to a solid left hand technique (which you should have already) and a good ear (which will probably need more development, indeed should be developed continuously over time anyway).
  12. It depends if the case and weight are important to you.
  13. It was entirely deliberate (not to extend the range.......), the idea being that instead of shifting, you'd stay in the same position (approx) and use the 5th string to achieve the notes required. It went down like a lead Zeppelin though.
  14. If you can afford £800, then the thing to do would be to buy one online, then if you didn't like it you can send it back under the distance selling regulations.
  15. The problem is, Fender is a volume manufacturer - their successful designs are a blend of a popular/safe middle ground and ease of mass production. Whilst the above is lovely (to someone), it won't "do it" for Fender.
  16. Will be interesting to see where this goes. I wonder if they continued charging money for safe storage, even after the fire and disappearance?
  17. Did the prices go up in other countries too?
  18. So you're achieving a Bb lower than E with.................which gauge string? ETA, I would have considered BEADG as "standard" 5 string tuning these days, although I know a few 5 strings are set up (and were set up at the factory) as EADGC. Its probably led to some of the confusion.
  19. Just confirm, what do you think is "standard" 5 string bass tuning, and which direction are you going to achieve Bb F Bb F Bb?
  20. Its an interesting psychological phenomenon. Yes, there will be a temporary lift from buying and playing something new, but this is temporary and no matter what, you'll return to the previous emotional state. So its kinda an argument for (very regular) GAS, as well as an argument against it. I personally can't afford to buy new kit every few weeks or months, so I don't.
  21. I typed (without the quotes) "classic vibe" into the search box and pressed the button. Top thread is this one, then there's a few classifieds ads, then this: There's lots of other threads too but that one seems to cover what you want to know.
  22. This is so true. I guess you could point the finger at the monitoring............but never judge the overall FOH sound based on the stage sound.
