Its worth googling "Hedonic Adaption", which is the underlying reason why people THINK they have GAS, but is actually (once understood) the route to be GAS-free. Different venues will ave different EQ requirements, it just needs setting up properly for different rooms, events etc. New strings will obviously be part of it (I don't count new strings as GAS unless you're changing them way too often!!)

....or quite a reasonable, low-mileage Fiat Panda.

AIUI its set at the 12th fret simply for convenience, because the harmonic sounds the same octave/note as the fretted note. We could just as easily do it at 19th fret. Or 24th for those who have it.

Forward bending fretboard? Or a trick of the eye
paul_c2 replied to Punkviking's topic in Repairs and Technical
I've never worried about leaving it overnight, or seen it "settle" etc. Its hard to tell from the pics but it does seem as if you can drive a double decker bus under the action, might be worth making a big adjustment then checking. If you can get a tool that can do it with the strings on and tensioned, even better (you didn't mention what kind of bass it is or where the truss rod adjustment is). -

Can't really tell from the pics. Its always possible you adjusted the truss rod the wrong way. -
I think what did it for the Dimension was the existence of Music Man and of course its association with Leo Fender at the time. If you're going to go for something a bit more modern with humbuckers (and active pickups) then the Music Man is seen to be "the one to have" and the Dimension is a bit of a take on it. These days, why not just buy an actual Music Man, or a SUB. The Stingray has probably been as successful as it deserved to be (rightly).

They did, and it didn't work (Fender Performer). (Maybe I might also mention the Dimension.......or is it too controversial to say it wasn't successful either?) In a world of change, sometimes its comforting to find something which doesn't.

Hello, meet me and see if you have suggestions

1. "Know your audience" 2. IMHO people want to hear tunes they know........ 3. Several major issues: neck pocket - bridge position will probably be different, resulting in the bass neck fret placement all wrong. Guitar body will have a 6-string guitar bridge and pickups? If you swap these too, and relocate the bridge to the correct place, it might work. But I imagine the neck -body join will be clearly seen as bodged (is the neck pocket even the same dimensions? I would have thought the bass one will be longer and thinner). Also the angle will probably be slightly off, resulting in either no action, or too high action. This would be correctable with a shim or two, but will probably be visible. And the chances of putting the guitar neck onto the bass body are just as slim too. In fact, all the corrections (bridge location, pickups etc) will result in a bodged look, or plain not work properly. It would take a lot of time and skill to visually fix these. You'll probably just end up devaluing/ruining 2 perfectly reasonable instruments and regretting it.- 14 replies

Massive outdoor Festivals? don't get it

They are heavily dependent on the weather. By the looks of it so far, 2019 is probably the year to miss. I am sure they are great when its hot and sunny though. -
Its an interesting point that if you only have one instrument, you get to know it more, then focus more on playing it better.

This is embarrasing. I looked at both pickguards and thought, hmmmm, something's not quite right with the looks - I think its the fact that its blue.......then I looked at my own guitar and realised it was.......blue......whoops! In defence, mine is Lake Placid Blue though, which seems to "pop". Personally, mine has a white pickguard but there's something about the tort too. I'd leave the white on for now, but definitely do the swap every now and again (just make sure both use the same holes......when I did my last pickguard swap, I had to fill and redrill - but it was Japanese). Are you keeping it?

If we're being technical, then the bit about time signatures isn't correct - in compound time, the top number doesn't define the number of beats, but if divided by 3, gives the beats. Eg 6/8 has 2 beats per bar, 12/8 has 4 beats per bar. And it follows that the bottom number doesn't represent what kind of note gets one beat. I'm not sure there's a neat way to explain it in a few bullet points though - you'd need to distinguish cases where something is in compound time, vs simple time and there is no universal rule (you might be able to say, its when the top is >3, and /3 for example 6, 9, 12, etc). Apart from that I can't see any faults. I'd have included the bebop scale though.

Why not simply cancel or not arrange any gigs until you're ready? If things are going slower that you're happy with, is it because you're being too pushy or one person are lagging? What do the others think? (Edited due to miscounting the number of guitarists). Also, you say everyone has gigging experience - how much experience does the guitarist/keyboard player have? Does he know that failing to rehearse/know the music is going to catch him out at the gig or does he have a cunning plan you don't know about?

Why didn't you peel the tape off before handing over the money?

That mixer is very basic, but has enough to do what you want to do. If you want to use it for live sound AND recording at the same time, there are 2 options I see: 1. Connect the MAIN OUT to your active speakers; and the recorder to either the CTRL ROOM OUT or PHONES socket. One is a pair of mono 1/4" TS, the other is a stereo 1/4" by the looks of it. This means that you can use the slider to quickly/easily adjust the live sound out to the PA, and the Phones/Control Room knob to adjust the recording level separately if needs be (it would need to be turned up a bit...not at -infinity, obviously). 2. Connect the 2-track OUT (the pair of RCA connectors) to the recorder. You might need an adapter for this. Also, it seems to be a fixed level, it doesn't have its own level control. It is probably fixed to the main output slider. Given that there's no separate level, and you'd need an adapter, I'd personally not recommend it be used. This would leave either the main out (or if you really wanted to, the CTRL ROOM OUT/Phones - but I don't see why???) to connect to the speakers. Basically, the mixer has so few outputs and controls that you might need to use an output that isn't labelled/intended/documented in the manual, for recording at the same time.

So they're competing with the TalkBass forum?

If he's trying to run an (effectively, paid) forum for UK bass guitarists then surely an insurmountable obstacle is network effect?
