  1. Queuing for Guy's show starts about 15-20 mins before the gig. Well worth going to see it, and if you haven't read his book - grab a copy as it's great fun.
  2. Nice Jazz Bass he's using. I caught the show last Monday - great fun, and am planning to see it again on Sunday 27th.
  3. Guy Pratt is bringing his one man show at the Edinburgh Fringe festival from August 14th - 28th (day off on 21st). And, it's FREE !!!! 5pm each evening. Frankenstein venue. Guy will be telling tales of his life on the road and studio with Pink Floyd/ David Gilmour, Bryan Ferry, eye. He'll also be playing bass, and a bit of 6 string guitar.
  4. And after all this time...... The buyer has now paid for the DB680!!! 7 months. Hope it provides many years of great bass tones in its new home.
  5. "Always The Sun" by The Stranglers - simple and melodic. http://youtu.be/mSG4ONpSnqk
  6. Chrissie has written some fantastic songs, huh? I'm now watching Chris Kristofferson - dear goodness!!! He's well past his best.
  7. The original buyer still hasn't followed through (although I have new been promised that he will do so during this month - June '17)
  8. I always use the nitro from Steve at Manchester Guitar Tech too. I've used his lacquer on my various builds and refinishes over the past few years - fabtastic stuff. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/299369-my-blackguard-tele-build/page__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/243590-andy-summers-tele-build/page__fromsearch__1 http://basschat.co.uk/topic/217598-olympic-white-6662-style-jazz-bass-build/page__fromsearch__1
  9. My brother had Mojo make him a set of pickups for his "Coodercaster". Lap steel repro unit in the bridge, and a Tiesco Gold Foil pickupnin the neck position. They sound fantastic! 10. Hi guys. The guy who was lookibg to buy this from me in December asked me to hold it for him.Despite each month asking for a further extension, he still hasn't as yet bought it. There's no response to text messages to him now either. So, this great preamp is still available to anyone interested in grabbing this sought after piece of equipment.
  11. The problem I had was that the dreadful drummer was the guy whose idea it was to form the band (apparently I was recommended by a guitarist guy I had helped out on a dep gig a while back). I'm currently talking to drummer friends to see if we can set something up with Judith as she's one of the best singers I've played with.
  12. I did a gig last weekend with a newly formed outfit. Girl singer - absolute dynamite, young guitarist who was good, myself, and completing the lineup..... the worst drummer I've ever had the misfortune to play with!! Spreading up, slowing down, and drum fills that sounded someone throwing a drum kit down a stairwell. His timing was so bad that I couldn't even play straight 8th note grooves as the foundation was constantly shifting. Bloody awful! Strangely enough, the band did get a couple of other bookings from audience members (which was definitely due to the singer Judith being fantastic), and I had quite a few complementary comments regarding my own playing. However, the drummer was so awful that I had to excuse myself from committing to any other gigs. The singer says she'd love to perform in another band setting with me, so I guess I'll have to hunt down some of my drummer associates who actually know how to count to 4!!
  13. Thanks for the positive comments everyone. The rest of the instrument specs are: Neck - 50s soft "V" shape. Full depth (0.9 at the first fret, increasing to .975 at the 12th fret. Although it's fairly large, it feels slim due to the lack of "shoulder" in the profile when you hold it, due to the V shape) with vintage 7.25" radius fingerboard. Gotoh vintage spec tuners. Slot head hardware mounting screws throughout. Round string retainer for a period correct early 50s Blackguard look. Bone nut Period correct early 50s Telecaster decal. Nitrocellulose lacquer throughout. Plain neck plate as per original Blackguard Teles. Fibreboard pickguard - sprayed with nitrocellulose lacquer. This was done while resting on a paint can to obtain the classic vintage "halo" on the underside. Pickups are Fender Custom Shop "Twisted Tele" set - as used by Fender on their current Nocaster instruments. Vintage spec bridge plate. Compensated bridge saddles with shortened height adjustment screws on the outer edges - to avoid the usual sharp screws digging into your hand when damping at the bridge. "Greasebucket" tone control wiring - this retains the same output level when you roll off the treble. CTS pots, CRL 3 way selector switch, and Switchcraft output jack. Milled output jack cup. Flush rear string ferrules.
  14. Rick Wakeman's acceptance speech from the 7:00 mark onwards is fantastic: http://youtu.be/qfBtgEVxhTo
  15. The "Groove: No Treble" podcasts pass a few hours - lots of players on there. But they're not focussed specifically on gear if that's what you're looking for?
  16. Sounds like a fun selection of tunes to work through!
  17. I too have always loved bass synth sounds. I've spend thousands of pounds on various effects over the years attempting to approximate the sounds via my bass guitar. However, I've never Neen completely satisfied with the results. So, I have now bought this - Moog Little Phatty Stage II! I'll have to do some serious practice at home before unleashing my noise making on the public! 18. I actually just claimed it through my household contents insurance.
  19. I'm simply having a new one made for me. Thanks to the generosity of the insurance company!
  20. the key thing to do is sand the sharp fingerboard edges- makes the neck more comfortable in the hand while playing. Also, sanded the fret ends - they're pretty harsh when you get the raw neck. As for finishing the wood, I've only sprayed them - never used oil or a similar substance. Using nitrocellulose lacquer from Steve at Manchester Guitar Tech, application is pretty easy - only takes a couple of light coats. Saying that, you need to apply a couple of initial spray passes along the walnut skink stripe as the walnut is more open grained compared to the maple. After spraying the fingerboard, you'll have to scrape the lacquer off the frets.
  21. I stubbed my toe on the edge of a rug, and stumbled on top of my bass - which was laying against the sofa! Strings went, "SNAP!!", and the neck gave a "CRUNCH" sound. Aaaagh! Saying that - I did the deed last Sunday, spoke to my insurance company on Monday where they requested pics and quotes for a replacement bass. I got those things to them by Wednesday evening. I then received an email today (Friday) saying everything was fine and they'd pay me the full cost of a replacement bass minus my £100 excess! Result!!! They're gonna transfer the money straight into my account on Monday. Incredibly quick service, and totally hassle free.
