1. That's an amazingky detailed breakdown you've done mate, fantastic stuff, I've akways loved thst line. In fact, I had the privilege of playing it on an advert session for Burger King in Australia of all things while I was living there around 2000/2001 (I know, I know, but hry, it pays the bills! Hahaha).
2. Okay, Paul just phoned following another long day at rehearsals for The Voice. Tom Jones had the songs ready for his contestant, so that run through took half an hour, and then a final selection. Will I Am was supposed to be there at 2, didn't show until 5, and had no songs selected for playing through. He had spent all day on Sunday working on song ideas with Nick Cottle, who has olayed with Kate Bush, Peter Gabriel and the like (Nick is Laurence Cottle's brother). Rehearsals for today have ended with stoll nothing decided for Will's vontestant to sing. Aaagh!!! Anyhow, the Shuffler album was hopefully being launched fully by a German record label, who have unfortunately have just passed on it. So, Paul is going to email the Shuffler management to see what's happening with CD purchasing ootions for folks looking to buy the album as there have been a number of enquiries recently. He'll get back to me as soon as he hears back. Might be later tonight, or tomorrow.
3. Yeah, Rob could be the best route right now. Paul's tied up doing the LONG day rehearsals for The Voice this week.
4. Still no reply from Paul. I'll post details regarding the CDs as soon as I hear from him.
5. The album was available for sale at their gigs, and was supposed to be available to buy from an onlone webpage too. Let me give Paul a phone to find out what the latest news is.
6. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/209985-the-who-vintage-trouble-glasgow-secc-june-12th-2013/page__pid__2112998#entry2112998 As for Steve Pearce, he only did the audition rounds. The bass duties on the elimination rounds were handled by Jerry Meehan (Robbie Williams).
7. Hahaha - my appalling typing was the result of using my phone's touch screen with my old fingers. Incidentally, while chatting with Pino last Wednesday morning he told me that he had been approached about playing bass for The Voice when the first series was being arranged.
8. Yeah, Paul is foing the live ginal rounds. When the Voice run ends, he's iffvto South America for more jamiroquai festival dates
9.
I agree with this and Born To Run is a very good example of a cover that is not merely a cover.
Yup, their version of Born To Run was fantastic. I prefer it to Springsteen'soriginal.
10. 1 - Jean Jacques Burnel's bass on the track "Peaches". I heard it and thought, ooh, that's really cool. 2 - Sting with The Police. I saw him on TV and thought "bass sounds great, and he looks cool". 3- my brother pkayed 6 string (after he decided to learn on the acoustic I was bought for Christmas when I was around 12, but which I never used), so I decided to pick uo the 4 stringer instead at age 15. At age 17, I saw The Police live on stage - New Year's Eve 1981, at Edinburgh's Ingliston Exhibition Centre. The bassist in the support band (Jools Holland just after he had left Squeeze to fo his own thing) was an unknown player who blew my mind. The player? Pino Palladino - he changed my whole perception of what a bassist could be.
11. They performed live in 2004 (with a different kead singer as Holly Johnson declined to participate) and they sounded incredible. Mark O'Toole's O-Bass sounded fantastic. Here's aa ckip from the DVD which was released of the event: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qsrU71O2FyA&feature=youtube_gdata_player
12.
Is the one that is just out on DVD?
Yeah, last night's TV screening was thenfirst DVD of the recently released boxset (last night's being Part 1 of the documentary)
13. This was taken a couple of days ago. Nice to see he's a fan of other bassists too. Incidentally, the bass Pino is having signed is his Moon Larry Graham signature model.
14. I received this new 4 DVD boxset today. Nice to see that as well as the 1970 section with Glen Cornick on bass, he's also included in the clip from 2001 also. 15. Johnny Marr playing in May this year, with Andy Rourke as a special guest. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zeQIscpBSk&feature=youtube_gdata_player
16. I'm awaiting delivery of this 4 DVD boxset, looking forward to a Tull-tastic weekend. Check this out on AMZN:Around The World Live [DVD] [2013] [NTSC]http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00BUL988I/ref=cm_sw_r_an_am_ap_am_gb?ie=UTF8
17. Yeah, he's always been one for working as much as he could. I just think the recent mega-busy phase is to get as much done before the cancer won't allow him to continue.
18. I hope the BBC screen Chic's set when they play Glastonbury this year. Nile seems to be everywhere recently. I guess he's trying to get as much done as he can as he knows he has a limited amount of time left?
19. I was at the Rush gig on Thursday too. I was seated durectly behind the mixing desk and had a totally clear view of the stage. However, I did something I've never done before - I left after half an hour as I was bored senseless. I found myself studying the ceiling girders rather than the stage. The sound was appalling, really odd as I was effectively hearing what the sound engineers were hearing. I was back home by 8:45pm watching the David Bowie "Five Years" documentary on the BBC iplayer - far more enjoyable. So, that was £60 down the drain (plus booking fee). I hope The Who's sound is better on the 12th.
20. I really liked Lou Reed and Metallica when they were on. I thought they were doing something totally unique.
21. Andy originally learned to play on a left handed bass, so he got used to the dtrings being that way. Jimmy Haslip is a left hander who learned to play on a right handed bass, turned round so he got used to the "upside down" layout.
22. I'm seeing them in Glasgow nect Thursday. One of my work colleagues has just arrived in Manchester for the gig tonight. I'm extremely envious!
23. The old Guitar Player magazines were fantastic. I recently bought the early 80's issue with Andy Summers on the cover. Really in depth.
24. Do you know any secondary school teachers? If so, they could get someone in the metalwork department to make something up?
