Do You Play Your Bass Between Gigs?
kevin_lindsay replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
Woke up at 3:30am. Couldn't get back to sleep. So, I've been noodling acoustically on the p-bass I had on a stand beside my bed -
think the police might be owed some royalties on this one

Now that's a good idea!! I've looked out my "Message In A Box" set. Time to have fun playing along to those classic tracks. Do You Play Your Bass Between Gigs?
kevin_lindsay replied to Pete Academy's topic in General Discussion
I play every day. I've got basses in my living room and the bedroom. I've also got basses at my parents' house, my btother's house, and at various friends' houses and studios. The only time I've not played on any particular day is I've been away from home with work, or on holiday. Saying that, I've been known to end up buying another bass while I'm away as I miss playing so much!! I've done this almost every day since I was about 15, and I'm now 48. -

Various friends of mine saw them in Glasgow on Wednesday. They doo were all raving about how good the set was. Glad you guys enjoyed them too. It's nice to hear such positive thoughts after the predominantly "everything in the world is bad" threads that have been appearing on this forum recently.

Here's a chance to grab a Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickup for the single coil "Tele" style P-Bass. I've got it fitted in my Shell Pink P-Bass and its great, but due to the very lightweight swamp ash body, I need a pickup that has a really deep fundamental tone. I had the same pickup as this in my alder bodied Bravewood relic (which I sold on this sure a couple of years ago). It sounded fantastic in that format. Anyhow, I'll have Chris McIntyre remove it on Friday when I'm st his workshop in Edinburgh. If anyone fancies giving this a go, here's your chance to grab a bargain!! £30 posted in the UK. Some pics of the pickup in the pink bass You can't see the wires in those pics, so here's a pic of the control plate to show the cloth covered wires that lead from the pickup

Well, I think many of you will have seen the thread I posted about this guitar. It's the nicest Strat I've ever played, but, as I'm a bass player, it mainly sits on its guitar stand. This instrument needs to be played!! When I bought it (from a USA Army Sargeant in Alaska of all places), I had it sent to New York and I brought it back to the UK during one of my return journeys. The finish was originally Medium Palomino Metallic (that's "jobbie brown" to you and I). Also, there was a few dings in the finish, most noticeably on the forearm chamfer. I decided to refinish it it in nitrocellulose Surf Green. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the dings were only in the lacquer and hadn't impacted on the wood of the body. Here's a link to the thread I started which documented the refin: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/163365-refinishing-fender-strat/page__fromsearch__1 Haimesy on this thread bought the refinished Shell Pink USA '62 Jazz Bass I did, so he knows how the refinished look. He's pretty happy with his instrument. Here's a link to that one for your further info: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/168089-shell-pink-fender-usa-62-reissue-jazz-bass-l900-delivered-in-the-uk/page__pid__1538791#entry1538791 If you want any more info from me, just drop me a PM. Thanks for looking guys. Grab the Sodajerker on Songwriting podcasts. Really interesting stuff. The Mark King and the Narada Michael Walden ones are great

I've sold loads of basses on this site, and have always had great interaction with the prospective buyers. One bass actually sold and I had the payment within an hour of listing the instrument.

The bass is a mid '50's style one with amp knobs rather than the usual chrome types. -

Listening now - fantastic stuff. Thanks for the heads up mate. -
Absolutely nothing to worry about. As stated previously, it's simply the finish sinking into the wood grain. Itcan happen with any finish. For example, on very thin nitro finishes it can be very noticeable. Poly finishes mask it better due to their thickness and plasticity. Here's my ultra thin ( about the overall thickness of a sheet of paper) Shell Pink nitro finish on a swamp ash body

Last time I was in New York (last December), I bought a couple of guitars, 4 or 5 effects pedals and 40 sets of strings. I put the effect pedals and strings in my hand luggage. When I got to the security scanning section at the airport, I simply took the pedals and boxes of strings out of my small carry case so the scanner guys could see what the items were. In JFK and Heathrow, the security guys simply said "you've obviously done this before?". No hassles whatsoever

That's the brand! I forgot that Rob made necks under that brand name!!! I can sleep more easily tonight! Thanks matey.

Pino's graphite neck (which he fitted while he had the original neck's fingerboard replaced) wasn't a Status one (or Strata as they were first known before Fender got them to change the name). I can't remember if it was a Moses or a Modulus neck. Maz (Pino's wife) can't recall which one it was either.
