Good to hear that the bass family are getting deals done. Ive sold instruments on Basschat to folk in various European counties, and have sent quite a few to the USA too. I've made many great contacts in the process too. Only time ive had problems, have been with the odd UK based buyer/seller. Let us see pics of your new bass when it arrives matey!

I've used DR Hi-Beams for over a decade now on all my basses. I love them. I'd tried the Dunlop Super Brights last year when loads of players were raving about them. For me, the Dunlop strings had vertblittle bass fundamental compared to the DR strings. Thanks for providing the link to the deal on the Hi-Beams. I'm now awaiting my own delivery.

Old thread resuscitation time. Here's Guy soundchecking for this year's Edinburgh Fringe festival 2 week run of his one man show. He used this white stack knob Jazz Bass for the run of gigs.

Guy Pratt is bringing his one man show at the Edinburgh Fringe festival from August 14th - 28th (day off on 21st). And, it's FREE !!!! 5pm each evening. Frankenstein venue. Guy will be telling tales of his life on the road and studio with Pink Floyd/ David Gilmour, Bryan Ferry, eye. He'll also be playing bass, and a bit of 6 string guitar.

My brother had Mojo make him a set of pickups for his "Coodercaster". Lap steel repro unit in the bridge, and a Tiesco Gold Foil pickupnin the neck position. They sound fantastic! The problem I had was that the dreadful drummer was the guy whose idea it was to form the band (apparently I was recommended by a guitarist guy I had helped out on a dep gig a while back). I'm currently talking to drummer friends to see if we can set something up with Judith as she's one of the best singers I've played with.

I did a gig last weekend with a newly formed outfit. Girl singer - absolute dynamite, young guitarist who was good, myself, and completing the lineup..... the worst drummer I've ever had the misfortune to play with!! Spreading up, slowing down, and drum fills that sounded someone throwing a drum kit down a stairwell. His timing was so bad that I couldn't even play straight 8th note grooves as the foundation was constantly shifting. Bloody awful! Strangely enough, the band did get a couple of other bookings from audience members (which was definitely due to the singer Judith being fantastic), and I had quite a few complementary comments regarding my own playing. However, the drummer was so awful that I had to excuse myself from committing to any other gigs. The singer says she'd love to perform in another band setting with me, so I guess I'll have to hunt down some of my drummer associates who actually know how to count to 4!!

Thanks for the positive comments everyone. The rest of the instrument specs are: Neck - 50s soft "V" shape. Full depth (0.9 at the first fret, increasing to .975 at the 12th fret. Although it's fairly large, it feels slim due to the lack of "shoulder" in the profile when you hold it, due to the V shape) with vintage 7.25" radius fingerboard. Gotoh vintage spec tuners. Slot head hardware mounting screws throughout. Round string retainer for a period correct early 50s Blackguard look. Bone nut Period correct early 50s Telecaster decal. Nitrocellulose lacquer throughout. Plain neck plate as per original Blackguard Teles. Fibreboard pickguard - sprayed with nitrocellulose lacquer. This was done while resting on a paint can to obtain the classic vintage "halo" on the underside. Pickups are Fender Custom Shop "Twisted Tele" set - as used by Fender on their current Nocaster instruments. Vintage spec bridge plate. Compensated bridge saddles with shortened height adjustment screws on the outer edges - to avoid the usual sharp screws digging into your hand when damping at the bridge. "Greasebucket" tone control wiring - this retains the same output level when you roll off the treble. CTS pots, CRL 3 way selector switch, and Switchcraft output jack. Milled output jack cup. Flush rear string ferrules.

The "Groove: No Treble" podcasts pass a few hours - lots of players on there. But they're not focussed specifically on gear if that's what you're looking for?
