I too just received one of the emails. Thanks to your warning, I just deleted it rather than opening the message
-
It was the remastered version of So released in 2002 when Peter re-arranged the track order to finish with In Your Eyes
-
It was great hearing about how they slowed down the percussion and keys on Mercy Street. I now know how that fabulous, slurry rhythm was created. Loved it!
-
Yeah, I'd hoped they'd feature the section with Jerry Marotta playing Tony Levin's bass strings with his drumsticks while Tony fingered the notes!
Great programme all the same -
Great!!! Keep us up to date with the build progress matey.

I've ordered a maple, single hole one for my mid-50's style p-bass build.
Still deciding whether to keep it natural, or spray the finger rest in Shell Pink to match the body???? -

you GAVE IT AWAY, I can't believe it either Kev, you must be a truly generous, lovely individual or you were suffering some serious senior moment.

Yup, I gave it to Thr guy who married my cousin as a wedding present. Strangely, he seemed more appreciative of it than my cousin did! Hahaha -
I think I'm gravitating towards an ebony one. I had an original '56 P-Bass a few years back, and that had a black painted maple finger rest on it. I miss that bass, still can't believe I gave it away!!!

Yippee!!
1 hour Classic Albums programme on BBC Four this Friday evening from 9-10pm featuring Peter Gabriel's album "So".
Should feature some nice Toby Levin segments I reckon.
Also, for those so inclined, there's a few hours of Prog Rick stuff directly afterwards. -
GREAT!!!
Just what I'm looking for. I'm currently making a mid 50's style P-Bass in Shell Pink. I don't want to have the finger rest in Shell Zpink, sonic wondering whether to go for a plain maple one, or one in ebony?
Here's a pic of the style of bass with the pink rest in place

JJ Burnel - the reason I took up bass!!

The original version GROOVES!

To me, the Marcus version is indulgent, and is ruined by the jazz dissonance. -
I endured around 2 minutes of it - couldn't listen to any more. Bloody awful!
-
The pink bass was a Nordy old style P-Bass made for me by Carey Nordstrand. It's now owned by a guy in Sweden or Finland or thereabouts.

I use my '74 Jazz bass when gigging. Well, I did until Paul Turner borrowed it, I'm still trying to prise it back out of his hands! Hahaha

That doesn't appear to be a musicman neck on Pino's bass...

It's a Moses Graphite neck he had fitted while getting the fingerboard replaced on his Musicman neck -
I actually am strongly thinking about trying to get an American Re-Issue 62-64 J-Bass in either Shell Pink or Sea Foam/Surf Green.
I love both Shell Pink and Surf Green too!
I refinished a Fender USA '62 reissue Jazz Bass in Shell Pink (which I sold a few weeks ago to Haimesy in Edinburgh).
I'm currently working on a Surf Green '62 reissue with matching headstock, and also a '54 style P-Bass in Shell Pink.
Here's a link to the thread I posted showing the '62 reissue Shell Pink refinish

Those barrel sockets are a total pain in the rear end when they pack in, you can't repair them, they simply have to be replaced. No fun if it happens right before a gig, it if you're out on the road.
-
No longer for sale - I've decided to keep it after using it on a recording session. Sounded good to the artist & engineer. So much so, that I've been offered more work - yippee!
-
Very cool!!
-
Well, the Shell Pink is the colour I'm going for. The lacquers have been ordered today. Yippee!!
-
Hey TheGreek - you're a philistine my dear chap! Hahaha
Great service when buying a thumbrest!

I received my Guy Lewis thumb rest today. Maple in a single hole format for use on the mid-50's style P-Bass build I'm currently undertaking.
The bass is being finished in Shell Pink and I've decided to finish the thumb rest in the same colour.
The rest has Guy's name stamped into the wood on the base. Here's some pics of the rest in it's natural format, and also of it with the nitro lacquer applied also.
