1. Brian may was actually one of the first guys on stage. He played with the Crickets - using a sunburst 50's style Strat!! But, that never made it to the DVD release). On the night David Gilmour and Gary Moore were the standout acts in terms of live sound
2. Okay, so it's mainly a guitar based effect, but it's really an amazing sounding piece if kit. Typical Kev condition - totally unmarked. In "as new" condition. £150 delivered in the UK Here's a link to the unit's spec: http://www.sweetsound.com/mojovibe.htm
3. I've also bought quite a few items from Thomann and have always been impressed by their service
4. Oh dear. Every track they cover sounds the same. I'm not impressed by jazzy noodling.
5. Tell him to get a GigRig and it'll save the nightly pedal nightmare!!
6. I use the neck pickup cover on my Jazz Basses. The huge bridge cover is not to my preference - doesn't allow for palm muting (as was mentioned earlier), plus the available free string area between installed covers is minimal. Here's a pic of my Custom Shop 1961 Jazz with the neck pickup cover in place:
7. I have rolled the fingerboard edges on almost every Nass and guitar of every bass and guitar I've owned. Only bass I haven't needed to donut on is my Fender Custom Shop 1961 Jazz Bass.
8. When I ordered cover from them at the end of last year, I never heard anything from them for 3 weeks. I contacted them to enquire how long it usually takes to get the cover made. I received a response a few hours later saying they would get it sorted in a few days. After that - nothing! I contacted them 5 times enquiring as to the progress and got no reply. I eventually had to resort to conta ting then saying I wanted to cancel the order as they had not provided me with any progress details or an anticipated completion date. Still no response. I eventually had to get my back to recall the payment as a fraudulent transaction! Absolutely terrible company, I wouldn't advise anyone to use them!!
9. Cool!!! I'll be buying the Classic Rock magazine / CD format.
10. Bass first - and it's always been my main focus ever since.
11. People referring to instrumental tracks as "songs" - if there aren't any lyrics then surely it's a "tune" rather then a "song"??
12. Ah, Minder - Mo Foster on bass again.
13. Just to warn you, the bone STINKS when you cut and file it - pooh-ee!! I remember being in Chris Mcintyr's workshop years ago and asking "what's the smell??". Answer, "it's bone mate, I'm making a new nut for this neck". Where dud you get the none from Chris? Answer - "it's my granny"!!! Hahaha ( he was joking by the way!!)
14. David Coulthard invited me to his 21st birthday bash. The band were great, and for sone strange reason he decided to get me up to play with them. I used the bassist's gorgeous vintage P-bass in Olympic White. Now, it was fancy dress and I was there - as a surfer - wearing a full wetsuit!!! I was pretty drunk, and was boiling, my head looked like a beetroot!! Anyhow, I strap the bass on and pluck a few notes - nothing! The guitarist checks my lead, still nothing. The amp is checked - nothing. The lead is changed - nothing! At that point the original bassist walks back on to the stage, leans down and turns up the volume knob on the bass!!! Aaaaagh!!!!!
15. I received my Guy Lewis thumb rest today. Maple in a single hole format for use on the mid-50's style P-Bass build I'm currently undertaking. The bass is being finished in Shell Pink and I've decided to finish the thumb rest in the same colour. The rest has Guy's name stamped into the wood on the base. Here's some pics of the rest in it's natural format, and also of it with the nitro lacquer applied also. 16. I too just received one of the emails. Thanks to your warning, I just deleted it rather than opening the message
17. It was the remastered version of So released in 2002 when Peter re-arranged the track order to finish with In Your Eyes
18. It was great hearing about how they slowed down the percussion and keys on Mercy Street. I now know how that fabulous, slurry rhythm was created. Loved it!
19. Yeah, I'd hoped they'd feature the section with Jerry Marotta playing Tony Levin's bass strings with his drumsticks while Tony fingered the notes! Great programme all the same
20. Great!!! Keep us up to date with the build progress matey.
21. I've ordered a maple, single hole one for my mid-50's style p-bass build. Still deciding whether to keep it natural, or spray the finger rest in Shell Pink to match the body????
22.
you GAVE IT AWAY, I can't believe it either Kev, you must be a truly generous, lovely individual or you were suffering some serious senior moment.
Yup, I gave it to Thr guy who married my cousin as a wedding present. Strangely, he seemed more appreciative of it than my cousin did! Hahaha
23. I think I'm gravitating towards an ebony one. I had an original '56 P-Bass a few years back, and that had a black painted maple finger rest on it. I miss that bass, still can't believe I gave it away!!!
24. Yippee!! 1 hour Classic Albums programme on BBC Four this Friday evening from 9-10pm featuring Peter Gabriel's album "So". Should feature some nice Toby Levin segments I reckon. Also, for those so inclined, there's a few hours of Prog Rick stuff directly afterwards.
