1. Alan, Ged's black and maple bass is the old 70's bass with neck replaced by a Fender Custom Shop one. I prefer the White blocks and binding rather than the black of the old neck. As for so Many experiencing poor sound, I'm glad I experienced the amazing sound and atmosphere at the back of thf hall at the Glasgow gig!!
2. A 'z' black plate is a special one for idiots like me who can't type properly!! Hahaha - should have read 'with A black plate'
3. I wanted a tobacco sunburst unlined 4 string with z black plate and 2 band EQ. Couldn't locate one anywhere so ordered one from Ernie Ball in their next production run, Nice, isn't she??? 4. Glad you like your new Aguilar GS112 mate, and sorry for getting you out of your bed so early matey! Hahaha
5. Took Gav's new Aguilar GS112 through to him in Edinburgh. As always, he's a top bloke to deal with. No hassles, and is a genuinely nice guy.
6. Seasick Steve just posted on hid Facebook page that he's on Jools Holland tomorrow night with John Paul Jones on bass!!!
7. You have to go via a dealer - inless you're a VERY high profile player (which obviously, I ain't!! Hahaha )
8. I clicked on the link and moved away from my iPhone for a minute. Heard the noise and thought it was someone at a typewriter! What's this obsession with trying to get loads of strings and sound like a very poor guitarist with awful tone? What's happened to the joy of playing big fat real thick bass???
9. Sold pending payment. Thanks everyone who contacted me, you guys are great!!!
10. And here's some pics of the top and bottom of the cab to show there's no snags, rips or stains. 11. 2band EQ system for me. I know Pino's one was a 3 tone burst, but his one is really faded out so looks more like a 2 tone / tobacco burst these days. Hence the reason I opted for the TB on mine.
12. Well, I have been after an unlined fretless Musicman Stingray in Tobacco Burst with a black pickguard for some time. Couldn't locate one anywhere in that spec, so had one ordered in the next Ernie Ball production run. Order was placed Feb 15th and I received the UPS tracking details today with an anticipated delivery date for 16th May - yippee!!! I'll post some pics when it turns up safe and sound.
13. Okay then, just before I fall asleep here's some more pics. 14. I'll post some more pics in the morning matey. I'm off for some badly needed beauty sleep now.
15. Okay, I'm selling my GS112 cabinet (that's the tweeter loaded version). It's in immaculate condition and will be delivered in it's original Aguilar packaging box. I can't post pics on this thread right now as my iMac has gone on the blink and needs replacing (so guess what the money from this sale is going towards?). Anyone who's interested, please PM me with your mobile number and I can send you some pics that way? I'll try and get some embedded pics here when I get to my work tomorrow. (can't figure out how to grab the URL codes from photobucket via my iPhone!! Aaaagh!!) 16.
We were booked to play at a wedding. So we got there, set up, sound checked and waited for the guests to arrive. And waited... And waited... Around about 10 o'clock in the evening, we finally played... to the bride, groom and two other people that had turned up. (No, not even the parents of the couple!)
Oh man, that's a complete nightmare. Playing to an empty room, and cringing with embarrassment for the newly married couple. Oh dear!
17. Played a gig in Longriggend Remand Home - a prison for young offenders. That was rough!!!
18. I watched the Adele clip - absolutely nothing wring with her performance from what I heard. I think she's pretty great actually.
19. I had s Trace Elliot rig die on me years and years ago. Had to just DI the bass, and couldn't hear myself through the monitors, had to play the whole gig from memory without hearing what I was playing. No fun!!! Also remember going to see my friend Paul Turner play at the Astoria with 'Down To The Bone'. His Eden rig went on the blink just before the set and he couldn't hear himself either, even through his monitors. He had to move across the stage to hear himself through the keyboards and drummer's foldback!!! He was pretty embarrassed 'can't believe you came all that way to hear THAT!!'. Hahaha
20. I'm going to see them at the Glasgow SECC - 2 weeks on Saturday - oh yes!!!!!!
21. Pino Palladino playing 'For Once In My Life' for the 'Standing In The Shadows If Motown' book made me realise years ago what an inspirational bass player James Jamerson was. As Pino said in his note for the piece on the CD, 'the baseline is a symphony on it's own'. So many inflections on there. Years later I still haven't nailed it!!!
22. The Market for the Conklin instruments is a niche one (as it is for any 'out of the ordinary' instrument maker). Why don't you just buy direct from Bill?
23. I remember learning the baselines to the whole of the 'Cupid & Psyche' album by Scritti Politti in the 1980's. Learning the keyboard bass on my bass guitar really hey me away from my usual 'Grid patterns' on the fingerboard. I also remember figuring out the baseline to 'Welcome To The Pleasuredome' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood. A great 12 minutes of grooving with a main figure that has your fingers moving around the fingerboard, and loads of syncopated baselines throughout the track. Great fun. On fact, I'm off to play along with it again right now!!!
24. It's still a great dhow as it'd the only live music programme on UK tv these days. A comment earlier mentioned that the standard of bands on the dhow these days is a reflection of theistic business these days. I have to agree, surely it's time for a new movement, in the way we experienced punk, new romantic, electro-pop or the like in the past? Or maybe today's youth have been brainwashed by Simon Cowell and the modern obsession with 'celebrity' rather than talent?
25. Aaaaagh!!!!! I never even knew this thread existed. Just found out that the gig in Glasgow is tonight, and it's already started! If I'd have seen this even a couple of hours ago, I'd have been there for sure.
