  1. Oooh! That looks great!!! I love the back of the neck - cool!!
  2. I was gonna take pics of "how I managed to get my double bass into my car" for my disbelieving friends. However, when you know the bass is in bits under the covers, it kind of ruins the fun of documenting the process, huh? Here's the bass 2 minutes after I had bought it - 1 minute after it had smacked the head off the kerb. I didn't think it mattered if I had leaned it up against the car again at this point as the damage had already been done - Aaagh!! To get the bass into the car I had to drop the roof and fold down the passenger seat
  3. Just noticed that when the bass slid sideways along the car to it's demise, the headstock hit the rear quarter of my car and dented it also!! Once again - AAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!!
  4. Ah, I see! My workmates were coming up with gens such as "is there a SINGLE bass then?"
  5. I was discussing my double bass 'bash it up' woes with some of the folks at my work. Someone asked 'why is it called a DOUBLE bass?'. I was stumped for an answer. Can anyone enlighten me as to why it's called this?
  6. Actually, you know what? I'm still delighted to be getting back into the double bass. Even with this upset, it's still a great instrument to play.
  7. Just picked up the bass quiver from my Royal Mail sorting office. Absolutely immaculate condition. Thanks again matey, you're a star!
  8. Bloody estimated £120 repair bill. All this before I even played a note on the DB after buying it! Aaaaaagh!
  9. Okay, ON IT'S SIDE shall be my mantra from now on. Can't believe I am having to have my DB repaired before I even get to play it after buying it! Aaaaagh!!!!! Hopefully the repair bill won't be too expensive. It should be okay as the break is pretty clean On it's side Kevin, on it 's side!!!!
  10. Well, after many years without a double bass, I bought one yesterday! Yippee. I was so excited. I took the bass in it's padded gig bag out of the house of the guy I had bought it from, leaned the instrument against my car while I got my car key out to unlock the remote central locking. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion as the bass slipped sideways and the headstock thumped into the kerb. Open gig bag to see the strings flopping around the fingerboard and the headstock broken off! Aaaaagh! Oh well. It's a clean break, and I called Jimmy Moon at Moon Guitars in Glasgow (Jimmy is a double bassist himself). I've to take the bass in to him today (Tuesday) and leave itvwith him to be repaired. I guess my wait for a double bass continues? Hahaha

  12. Hi mate, I've gotAn Ed Friedland 'Jazz Upright Bass' DVD that shows the basics and some cool tips. If you want, I can post it to you for you to watch. Keep it for a month to get the ideas down, and then just post it back to me when you're done with it. Only costs you a return stamp when you send it back. Drop me your address if you want me to send it to you? Kevin
  13. Oh man!!!! This is what I was looking for!!! Aaaagh!!! I ordered a new one to be made for me by Ernie Ball last week! Placed the order and paid in full via Beaver Felton at bass central in the States. Someone HAS to buy this bass - it's gorgeous!!!
  14. Hi owen, I hope you're happy with the new Bravewood bass. Glad it arrived safe and sound.
  15. SOLD! The bass is being uplifted tomorrow for an overnight delivery to Owen. It's being sent in a flightcase which used to belong to John Deacon from Queen of all people. VERY cool, huh?
  16. Sold to Owen pending payment. Thanks to everyone who contacted me, thw response was truly overwhelming. You guys are great!
  17. Hi there, I don't have any scales at home at present (too frightened in case I find out how much my belly actually weighs you see! hahaha). Saying that, the body is light - not overly so, but the instrument is lighter in weight than my other USA P-Basses and is lighter than the USA Vintage Reissue Jazz I have at home right now. Kinda vague answer I know, but it's the best I can offer at present.
  18. PM's replied to. Anyone else out there who's interested, feel free to drop me a line. Nice to hear from you all again - it's been far too long since I've been on the site!
  19. Okay, so this bass is sounding and playing amazingly good right now. However, I am selling it (which I'll probably regret afterwards). The pickguard is a genuine 1963 tortoiseshell celluloid one - and has the usual buckling and shrinkage associated with such plates. Price is £900 delivered in the UK Anyone fancy a piece of uber-cool retrotastic P-Bass action? Go on, treat yourself! The swirly figuring of the original tortoiseshell plates just looked SOOOO good!!! The bass playing great now, and the sound is wonderful - really retro - BIG, ROUND, and WOODY. Sounds just like a classic P-Bass should!
  20. Bass paid for, and deliver arranged. bass will be uplifted from myself in a short while and will be with Oli on Monday. Hope you have fun with the bass mate, it really is a great instrument.
