1. Kent is a great guy! His son Aaron deals with most of the pickup stuff these days as far as I'm aware. Also, Kent's dad was thr famous Dan Armstrong - the bloke responsible for the classic "plug in" guitar effects, and the plexiglass guitars and basses. Oh yeah, forgot to add my recommendation to the pickups themselves, really great items
2. Ive been using DRs for about thr past 10 years and have never experienced any problems at all. Inlace the Hi-Beams and Lo-Riders
3. Everyone has their own reference ppiints. For me, it's always been Pino Palladino. Saw him live on New Years Evw 1981 and it changed my perception of how fluid a bass player could be. And, even though he's now a friend of mine, I am still inspired by his playing.
4. That's great!
5. That's great!
6. I've got a pair of Gretsch mini humbuckers out of an Electromatic Pro Jet 6 stringer. Free to anyone who wants them, just drop me a PM.
7. Glad you had a good time at The Gallery mate. The bloke who assisted you - if he had a shaved head, that would have been John Chapman, great guy (he's actually just completed a new custom built guitar for my brother). If he had shoulder length hair, that will have been Martin, the owner. Great guy and a great friend of mine for many, many years
8. I actually loved Geddy's bass sound when I saw them in May. It sounded amazing where I was sitting - directly in line with the mixing desk (so maybe I had the luxury of hearing what the house engineers were hearing also?
9. I actually love the way it looks. And, after trying one out at the Warwick store in New York, I was amazed at how incredibly comfortable it is. As for this bloke's listing, he's a total numpty if he thinks he can ask over 10 times the Market value of a great condition example.
10. I started playing age 14, that was 33 years ago - where has the time gone? High points? Playing at the Monaco Grand Prix at the VIP Amber Lounge, backing up Tom Jones at one point Playing for Chris Rea - great guy and amazing slide player Best overall is making so many great friend's over the years, some of whom have managed to get high profile gigs and still retain their humble attitude - such as Pino, Paul Turner, Marco Mendoza, etc, etc. Low points? A female keyboard player I was setting up a new project with about 10 years ago - tragically died 2 daysbrfire our first gig. That was a truly terrible time.
11. Okay Andy, the DVD will be on it's way to you tomorrow, and there's no charge for postage matey!
12. DVD looking for a good home. Anyone who wants this as a freebie, just drop me a PM
13. They're a great outfit. Brit Floyd are playing next Saturday at the British Grand Prix. I've already bought my tickets for the show in Glasgow next May!!
14. That's great! Good on him for setting up the auction for the items.
15. I love P basses, and am soblooking forward to getting my hands on the vintage spec Olympic White / tortoiseshell plate one that Wes Steed has been making for me. If you get one, you'll love it. They're kinda harsh on their own, but in a band setting that tonal grit makes them stand out so well.
16. For The Love Of Money by the O'Jays. Bassline was originally played by a young Anthony Jackson
17. It's great to hear about good service.
18. Cool! Looks great mate.
19.
LOL.. did you record your conversation with Kent Armstrong? There was never any such threat of a law suit in anyway shape or form. Get Kent up here. He lives in USA by the way, not the UK.
Of course I didn't record my conversation with Kent, and all I had to go on was his conversation with me sftr you spoke to him. If I'd been misinformed, then I apologise. Still, I couldn't see any reason why he'd bring it up if it didn't happen. As for Kent living in the USA, yes he lives there now, but in thf 80's hd lived in the UK! when he returned to the states, his son Aaron took over the UK pickup builds under the Wizard operation.
20. Paul Turner (Jamiroquai) has all his basses set with high action - around 1/2" at the 12th fret. He has a monster tone whenever he plays. But, whenever I play his instruments up at "the dusty end" I find my fingers slipping under the strings due to the height if them!! Pino's basses are set with a medium action, not so low you can't dig in without thf bass rattling, and not high so it's s pig to play. I guess it's all down to personal preference, huh?
21. Thanks mate, ive only got my iPhone and could only grab the links as I posted them earlier,
