Hair metal , or death metal?

Hair metal. I love the OTT-ness of the genre. -
Nothing bass related, but I'm eyeing up a fancy home studio mixer in the sales.
So those fishing with nets are not 'anglers', then..? Hmm... Enlightenment.
Wouldn't they be trawlers? -
When I was young, I could play at thrash speed but I couldn't headbang and play at the same time without falling over.

When I was much younger and more dextrous, I could play it (sort of) and I started by (sort of) mastering the version on "Suck on This" which is much slower and simpler. Probably not much help, but it might help to master the weird muting Mr. C. goes in for.

Are they still so clever and classless and free?
colgraff replied to colgraff's topic in General Discussion
Just one question to the previous post, (and I am conscious that we are now miles from the original question), I once met a young aristocrat whose family shall remain nameless and I asked her about their life. She is it was very much a Sword of Damocles situation but in their case the Sword was inheritance tax. You worked your whole life to either save enough so your offspring can pay the taxes on your death without having to sell a large chunk of the ancestral home or you did the work to pay off the tax bill you inherited with the estate. I confess to not being as sympathetic to this line of thinking as I could have been until I saw some programme on the television a few years later where an elderly aristocrat was living in horrible conditions in a small part of a country estate because the rest was falling down. He had all sorts of commercial enterprises going on which raked millions every year, but only just covered the repair bills. The presenter asked him why he didn't just sell it and live out his days in comfort. He glared at her and said that the home had been in his family since the 13th century and he'd be damned if he'd be the one to get rid of it' I saw what the young lady I met meant then. -
If you genuinely want a collective effort, I would record your basic ideas so that there is enough of each tune for others to grasp but that there is not so much that they feel inhibited about suggesting changes.
Pulp's, classic lyric springs to mind, "If you call your Dad he could stop it all."
I always found the idea of Jarvis Cocker playing the role of the Common People amusing, although I'll grant that the irony was probably intentional. -
I sold Matt my pedalboard. Nice chap, easy to deal with. Everything was quick and easy.

A charlady/domestic cleaner. It could be a regional term as well as being old-fashioned. -
What has going to grammar school got to do with being working class or otherwise ? I wouldn't personally describe McCartney as having had a middle class upbringing.
In the 1940s (and beyond) getting into grammar school was the route to university and middle class professions. Only 1-2% of working class children passed the 11 plus at the time. Those that did almost invariably came from hugely aspirational households and part of that aspiration was aspiring to middle class respectability. Grammar schools almost always had interviews as well as the 11-plus and being clean, smartly dressed and well-spoken were usually essential requirements. -

Someone once said that working class people enjoy mucking about under the bonnet of cars. Middle class people ring the AA once they stop crying. -

Unique handmade oak travel guitar
colgraff replied to itsmedunc's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
I think it looks rather nice in its own way and the seller has had the decency to ask a relatively modest price. -
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Mr. McK's people just to see the speed with which this evaporates?

Because the question of social class has been raised in other threads recently I have been pondering the media's persistent belief that working class bands have more legitimacy than those of other classes, I started off working class (my father worked in a junior position in the Met Office and my mother was a char) but when my father was offered an overseas posting, my brother and I were sent to boarding school and from there we went to university and, to my mind, became middle-class. So personally, I am not convinced that my musical efforts would have been more authentic if we had stayed in the UK and I had continued to be state educated. I'm also not convinced that the Beatles would have been as creative had they not been mostly middle class and 100% grammar school educated. Queen would, to my ears, have been immeasurably weakened without Freddie Mercury's elitist upbringing. And finally, I rather think that Oasis might have been more than they were with a little less legitimacy! What do other basschatters think?

I'm going with the dodgy spelling route, rather than the elegantly correct punctuation of Discreet's post. Merry Christams!

4 Question You Would Ask A New Prospective Band
colgraff replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
1. Describe your ideal musical year. 2. How gigs has the band cancelled in the past year? 3. What do you expect of me? 4. Describe your worst musical experience.
