1.
We tend to use Standard and Drop-D which we shift between a couple of times in a set with our current run of songs. I think he was hoping that by going with the 7-string he would be able to avoid any tuning changes at all since he would have native access to as low as B anyhow. As to the Floyd, you're pretty much confirming my worries. He's a great chap but not a technical one in the slightest. I fear a Floyd based guitar would simply end up never being used which would be a real shame. I've pointed him to these threads and he's back to looking at boring old six-strings with a fixed bridge now Looks like he might end up going for a LTD in the Les Paul style.
7 string guitar is like a 5 string bass - one string too many Retuning between songs? Life's too short (the audiences' life) Keep it simple! (that goes for tremolos too). Sounds like he's on the right path now!
2. Bought this for my studio to track drums but it has barely been used as I have other mic pres and found I didn't need as many inputs as I anticipated. Mint condition, manual, box, packaging. It has ADAT out, which I hook straight into my MOTU AD converter. Most AD converters will likely have similar capability. Features eight award-winning Focusrite pre-amps Mic-pres optimised for tracking drums Built-in eight channel 24-bit / 96 kHz digital outputs (ADAT) 5 LED input metering on every channel Two quality Hi-Z instrument inputs (image is generic as mine is racked currently) £200 collected / £215 posted http://www.dawsons.c...r3-gaAsja8P8HAQ
3. Fender Custom Shop (2007) 1951 Nocaster (Tele) Relic All original, sounds genuinely amazing, classic fat U Nocaster neck. [s]£1450[/s] £1350 Light resonant ash body - 3.3kg - 3.4kg (suitcase scales aren't very accurate). The relicing is light, eg scuffed, and it has been gigged occasionally by previous owner (50 year old chap). Looks and feels like a genuine old guitar. Nitro finish. Original case, which is quite dirty and worn on the exterior. Certificate, ashtray, spare resistor ( i think to make it original wiring or something), cleaning cloth (unused). Custom shop sticker (unpeeled), manual, original CS inspection ticket signed with serial and model name. Some light fretwear, nothing much. These are rated as one of the best models the custom shop have made. 4.
Whilst on subject of Katana basses, I put a Fender Original pickup in mine a couple of days ago and used it at rehearsal last night. Wow! A mod that is definitely worth doing.
You can get rid of the white one now
5.
Who is the great lowell george?
It's the fact that it's Dumble apparently (i just googled it and found this): Dumble musical instrument amplifiers are custom manufactured in very limited numbers by Alexander "Howard" Dumble of Los Angeles, California. Dumble amplifiers are among the most sought-after and expensive boutique amplifiers on the market; they were one of the originators of the modern boutique amp trend.[1] The Dumble Overdrive Special was assessed as the most valuable guitar amplifier on the market, fetching on average between $28,000 and $35,000 a piece
6. £225 bargain! (not my bargain unfortunately, I forgot to bid)
7.
OK, I'll stick my head above the parapet ready for a good pounding! For my band I'd love a studio that will do a live recording. What we have managed on just a tiny little Tascam in a rehearsal room is pretty close to what we need and would like but with just a little bit more control over the mixing, and, a decent vocal capture. Studios seem to want to offer an all or nothing approach - everyone isolated, overdubs etc, which we'd be hopeless at, and which needs hours of expensive mixing. I get the impression that some studios feel that that what we want is not possible. The sceptic in me thinks that this may be because my version won't be as profitable for them as their version
Your approach is perfectly reasonable. You just need to find the right place with the right engineer.
8. I've tried loads of 'light' flats - the least tension are Thomastiks but you may find those a bit 'rubber band-like', followed by LaBella 'low tension' flats which are not quite as light as Thomastik and have a less boingy feel! Then definitely get the nut optimally set up, it makes a lot of difference. Frets make a difference too, tiny vintage frets require a firmer hold in my experience but I find this more noticeable on guitar to be honest. Then finally you've got the neck shape - maybe your PJ is a less comfortable shape for you? Are you fretting harder because it is a thinner neck? I find switching between neck shapes can cause problems, but i'm a bit of a woos when it comes to left arm problems... the tiniest difference usually flares something up!
9. I've had the Aguilar, the MXR and an OC2. OC2 is best if you want to sound a bit synth-like. Aguilar and MXR both do excellent sub without so much of a square wave sound. MXR has more options on tone. Aguilar is super fat (has lo pass filter). P.S for me the MXR tracked the best. I kept the OC2 as I liked the synthy sound.
10.
Don't worry, it'll be back...
Oh yes...
11. Having looked in horror at this terrible bass several times on ebay, google seems convinced that I actually want to buy it.. - the awful new phenomenon of 'targeted advertising' ensures that pictures of the bass keep popping up on my facebook / google / news pages asking me if want it! HELP!!
12. You need a 44.1khz 16bit wav file, burn it as audio-cd (not data-cd). Any decent CD-R, don't bother with rewritable CD-RW, I've got a stack Verbatim from when I used to burn a few audio cd's but I've used all sorts and not had any problems. Check it plays in your cd player before sending!
13.
Cheers guys, I have to admit I felt the price was getting a bit strong for a bass that will always have a questionable history, I think I will wait for a more original example to come up even if I end up paying a bit more for it
i think that's a good plan. there have been some very nice ones on this forum.
14. these are reverse tuners on this from what i can see.
15.
Thanks for the thoughts, in terms of guitar I'm instantly drawn towards the tele as it looks the coolest, whether thats the wisest way to choose is a different matter entirely! I do have an acoustic at home so I think I'll learn a couple of songs on that before I start splashing the cash, it'd be nice though to invest in something which will do me for a good while though. I play a matt freeman squier at the moment so i'll probably look at the same range (Classic vibe) that is in the first instance, may struggle on the budget though..
i think that's the perfect way to choose! i'm sure the classic vibe would be good, but try a few if you can. [s]there's a £495 roadworn 60s strat in the classifieds here that would be a killer guitar to have (if you like the roadworn thing - i do!) [/s] [edit - oops way out of budget!]
16. You're in Brighton so get yourself down to GAK! I'd stick to Strats & Teles in that price range.
17. Terrible photos, I'd request more! It's obviously going to have holes in the body that won't have been there when new - thumbrest and the two pickguards - don't know if that bothers you, I'd definitely ask for picks with the guards off. As far as I know that isn't the type of decal on the 00 series JVs (the more sought after fender-badged squires) so it isn't likely to be one of those. Less that £600 would be ok I reckon - nearer £500 ideally.
18.
Yeah, clumsy bit of self promotion - nothing more! IMV
Hardly seems like a publicity stunt when the post has 38 Likes and 4 shares?
19. don't know where you are but guitarguitar in Epson also have a great range of acoustics, so maybe all their branches do the same?
20.
Oh God - it's the female equivalent of JedWard! They're obviously upset enough about it that they've using a photo of it on their FaceBook page. Warning: some pictures of half naked girls: https://m.facebook.com/TheSoapGirls/
Yes there is a photo, and underneath a serious piece of writing regarding sexism and abuse: We would like to make the following statement for you our fans especially and in support of #‎antisexism due to recent events; Both myself and my sister Mie have never been sexually active this doesnt make us any better or any less than another person and being maliciously attacked for being #‎Sluts which as being virgins we cant take personal offense to however we take offense to the use of the word applied to any females even if we were 'sluts' Nobody has the right to infringe on another persons right to #‎freedom of #‎expression. [edit] If the story of the gig is true then the guy that did it (organised it) should be done for assault, simple as that. Paul Tublord I own the venue .. I told Maisy and caldog to throw the blood ... The soap girls are the epitome of all that is wrong with the music scene. These girls are sell out sluts exploiting themselves and damaging the feminist movement. If this is accurate then this guy is a pr*ck. "Damaging the feminist movement" ? Does he even understand what he's saying??! Right thinking men should stand firmly against the derogatory term of abuse "sluts" that is so often casually aimed at women! #heforshe
21. I don't really get it though, he doesn't seem to ever actually teach anything. Is it just a vehicle for his very funny banter?! The skit about doing a drum solo which ends in an hour and a half of singing 'the lion sleeps tonight' into the drum while the venue empties, was extremely funny.
22. ha, this guy's channel is hilarious! thanks for the tip
