Don't know if this is the right place for this but we are looking for a female drum tutor for our 10 year old daughter, so if you know of anyone please PM me their details! Thanks Ted P.S. Just to add this isn't anything to do with 'men' . My daughter is already drawn to female artists (Jessie J, Beyonce etc) so I wanted to continue that if possible by finding a fellow female who could inspire her to beat the living daylights out of a kit!
Call me old fashioned but I'd much rather listen to a bassist and guitarist working together than someone trying to do both.
+1
Edit - with the caveat that if you ever come across a Katana and can live with the shape it sounds and plays almost exactly the same - they are basically A series medium scale MIJ Squier Precisions with a bonkers shape. In fact I find it extremely comfy as the missing bits of body are exactly where I have extra bits
Ha! Well there you go, I think having TWO 32" scale MIJ precisions is just being greedy. Even if one is a triangle... I'm here if you change your mind

Paul, I think that the time has come to sell me back that 32" PBass I really 'bonded' with that one! (but sold it...)

Why do we have to put up with bass bass sound at larger venues?
tedmanzie replied to jazzyvee's topic in General Discussion
Laura Marling at Queen Elizabeth Hall last night - from where I was sat it was the same old story - subby depth charge kick, no definition of the bass, too loud (a bit). Surely that venue should be reasonable? Rest of the sound (voice and guitar) was good. -
Is it just me who wants to hear what the bass player is playing at large venues? Is it just physics, bad engineering and I have to live with not hearing what our bass playing brothers and sisters are doing? For a recent example. I went to a Parliament Funkadelic gig last night at the O2 Academy in Brum. The gig was awesome by the way. But there was an enormous amount of bottom end coming through the FOH PA mainly from the kick drum and bottom end of the bass. As a result but I could see what the bass player was doing but not hear the individual notes just an overall "in key" sound. Because I knew most of the songs the band played I was able to imagine what the bass line was in my head. He was playing a two pickup musicman, i think it was a Sterling 5 HH and from what I know from owning a musician bass before, they do have a good sound in the mids so there is no reason I can see why that wouldn't be possible to get out front. Even when he came out front to play a slap solo his sound had no midrange at all so most of it was inaudible. Is this something I have to live with or do sound guys need to up their game and make the bass heard clearly as well as being felt? It really is a disappointment for me and puts me off going to large venue gigs.
Totally agree. I've seen SO many gigs where 'sound engineers' have no idea of how to get a good sound - depth charge bass drums, wooly room filling sub, smiley face eq on bass guitars, and the worst one of all - turn everything up as far as it can go for the last 20 mins... -
I could hear Alex Jame's bass fine, I noted he was playing fingerstyle - he was always a rock'n'roll pick man in the brit pop years! Must be low on cash and can't afford the 40p.

There's a bass player Greg F on youtube who has transcribed/plays loads of PP's neo soul type basslines, and he's very good. You can view the channel here: https://www.youtube....E969A87515E64E9 if you message him he offers transcriptions (notes and tab) plus mp3s of the transcriptions.

so who are the highest posting members (not mods) now? I see Happy Jack's at 7,824 - that must be top four?! I'm trying to get into the playoffs for division 2.

Bronner, I've forgotten the point of this thread, can you remind me please?

Through buying and selling basses I've met (in person) some very nice guys on here, and have had almost without exception very pleasant and well mannered discussions on the forum and via PM. I haven't really noticed this 'winds of change' thing but maybe I don't read the right threads. Some of the OT threads go a bit awol and there was some poster in a Rick' thread making a bit of ridiculous scene - the typical kind of raging over-opinionated poster you can get on Gearslutz...(for example) However i don't understand this 'I'm leaving' thing that a few people seem to think they need to announce. It's not a party. Or is it?
Ive seen them 6 times, once at parklife in manchester was the worst sound ive ever experienced - right in front of the stage and couldn't even make out what song they were playing.
Crikey that is poor! I should count myself lucky.

I saw Chic at the Camden Roundhouse last night. It was fun, they got the place really rocking and they have THE tunes, but OMG! - the sound in that place is SO awful. Can they not do anything to improve it?? Standing perhaps 20ft from the stage it is no exaggeration to say I couldn't define ANYTHING below about 200hz. No kick drum, no bass. And I don't mean boomy, I mean just not there, completely lost in a mass of echo. If you've got no bass or kick in a disco band then what are you left with? At least they had the tunes to be able to rock the place with melody and vibe, if not the rhythm section. We ended up near the bar at the back ( ) where at least the kick drum was now audible, even though it was the depth charge variety. Still no bass though. None at all. I could just about hear it for 'Good Times' when all the other instruments dropped out. I would really love to Chic in a decent venue I bet they would be amazing. The roundhouse in all other respects is a great venue - atmosphere, uniqueness, nice staff, quick bars, good loos, easy to get to etc. I've been before twice and it was the exactly the same with regards to the terrible sound.
Yeh, fair enough. I suppose the real problem is the visibility of the "sell anything" section. If you could sell anything capable of playing music in the "other musically related..." area, then anyone on the internet could come here looking for smartphones and I guess that's what we're trying to avoid by keeping them separate
I suppose you could make an exception for phones - i.e. phones have to remain in the 'sell anything' rather than 'music related items' - seeing as the primary use of a smartphone is as 'a phone'. That wouldn't bother me anyway, but I would like to see the other items accepted. Subsonic's idea of a 'high tech' sub cat could work perhaps. Maybe you could trial it for a month and if it gets out of control with gadgets then think again?
I don't really see a problem with selling music tech hardware, software could be a bit of a minefield though - transferring licenses etc…
Different companies have different methods for this, some a less painful than others! But should be ok if the seller/buyer are legit and willing to do the legwork (it's usually just a small fee and a couple of emails)
