1. we had an unfinished PM conversation re this do you want to swap for my short one? or i'll buy this one if you don't want my short one (btw mine is a couple of months old)
 2. as ram is so cheap i would upgrade it to 4gb, i don't see why it wouldn't help. 2gb is bare minimum. adding a firewire HD (get one that runs at 7200 rpm) is a good idea - obviously you need to move your projects to that HD. apparently its a good idea to have logic running from the system HD (i.e. your laptop) and projects/samples etc from external. what OS are you running? more recent OSs are more efficient (i think) make sure no other apps are open when you're running logic. what is the buffer set at? setting a higher buffer in the logic prefs will help it run better. automation isn't going to increase cpu load. things that increase CPU load are plugins, instruments FX etc. maybe you can streamline how you use FX? do you make use of the send busses rather than insert fX onto every channel? by the sound of your situation i would hang onto your setup and see if you can make it work! upgrading just brings grief

 4. Ibanez SDGR 5 string SR905 bass SOLD I am selling this for my sound engineer friend who lives round the corner from me. He bought this fantastic bass to use in his music (purchased in March 07), but as he good busier with mastering work the music got sidelined and the bass never got used. After a few hours use it has been stored in its soft case so it really is in as-new condition - as you can see! Original soft case included. Weighs 4kg. Collection preferred (Kingston, Surrey / South London), but I'm open to suggestions on delivery, or possible meet-up. It is in my studio if you'd like to try it out. Please PM me for more questions

 6. Not that anyone in this thread seems that bothered, but for what its worth I am reading this book and it is an interesting insight into the mind of Morrissey. However having said that, it is very disappointing that most of the writing is concerned with Morrissey's complaints and 'setting the record straight'. The Smiths, obviously the highlight (the only light?) of Morrissey's output, are brushed over in relatively few pages, with precious little insight into the band or the music.
 7.
He didn't share my musical opinion that the first Smiths LP was passable in places, and then it was downhill all the way!
That's because your musical opinion in this instance was entirely incorrect.
 8.
Yeah, but what's good jazz and what's bad jazz?
Good jazz: 90% of everything recorded between 1956 and 1978 Bad jazz: 90% of everything recorded from 1979 to 2013
 9. Bought an Aguilar Tonehammer DI from Bob in an excellent transaction! Thanks
 10. I was at a jazz gig the other night down in Kingston, all very good but one of tunes was really great - real rolling grooving funky number - the bass player was excellent but when it came to his solo it was so frustrating (for me) to listen to him basically kill the groove in favour of some upper neck widdling. The drummer stopped playing, as they often do for the bass solo, and the whole tune crumbled into funky dust.... Admittedly it came back in, but for me it would have been preferable to do a bass solo while keeping a solid groove, which is what bass players should be good at! Better than guitarists!
 11. Thread back from the dead! i just found video in the top post on YouTube and have been playing it almost constantly for two days! Went to post it on Basschat but found it was already here. Love Paul Jackson of course but is Mike Clark the funkiest drummer ever or what?...! Still doing it:
 12. Got this amazing strap recently - Comfort Strapp Pro Bass Short 33"-37" (84 - 94cm) But it is slightly too short for me, so looking to trade for the long version (96 - 114cm) This is in excellent condition so looking for the same. Cheers Ted
 13. Selling these for a friend who runs a mastering studio. Cranesong IBIS eq: £2400 Cranesong STC8 Comp: £2400 Seriously high end gear I'll put you in touch if you're interested - please PM me. Ted
 14. This thread makes me think about what constitutes 'ownership' of an idea in the first place. I've often read something along the lines of 'I'm just channeling the universe into my music' or 'The music is all around us, I was lucky enough to grab a piece of it' etc. I don't argue against the necessary skill to bring these ideas to life, but there is nothing 'written in stone' to suggest that you consequently own that idea once you write it down. The idea that the musician is due some renumeration is because of the consumerist society we live in - make something, own it, sell it. For the past 70 years (ish) the record companies, publishers and musicians have made billions and billions of pounds from this system. But it looks like its not going to hold up for much longer. I think long term we are heading towards a society where there is no money at all to be made from creativity of any sort. What do we do then?! Help
 15.
I know, Ted, and I have been reading your ad over and over again, poring over the pictures, for the last week ... I think it is the best looking JV around at the moment. However, after much deliberation I have decided on another one and am actually in the process of buying Luke's Fender Logo one - I decided that as it is part investment, part new bass, it made more sense to get the earliest one. I don't understand why yours is still here, though - it really is beautiful. Matching bathrobe, too.
Let us know how you get on with the new bass! Don't forget to get a sunburst bathrobe
 16.
Much as I like Thomas Yorke, David Byrne is rather more eloquent on the topic of Spotify in yesterday's Guardian http://www.theguardi...d?commentpage=1
This is very interesting. Seems like the 'dying corpse' is the musician then, not the music industry?
 17.
Question for the JV Squier fan club. I am toying with the idea of getting a JV Precision. They seem to hold their value well, increase a little, even. But primarily I would like to have one to play but this is where I think I am running into trouble as I only really can play basses that are lightweight and have thin necks. I have read a lot of the for sale ads here and many seem to be lightweight - well, under 9lbs anyway. Do any of them have thinner necks? I see some at 42mm and shallow, but were any slightly narrower? And was the combination of narrow neck and lightweight body ever made? Ta
My JV P is light and has a skinny (front to back) neck. Nut i estimate at 42mm but could well be 41.3 due to 'eye tolerance'!.. Rolled edge fingerboard makes it feel skinnier also. It's for sale in the classifieds - wihite/maple neck 57ri Are you in London? Come and have a play, I'm in SW London
 18.
I've just fitted a set of the La Bella Deep Talkin' 760FX (39 / 56 / 77 / 96) as an experiment as they are similar in gauge to the TIs on my other fretless bass. Early days yet but so far the G seems overly zingy and the E a tiny bit lifeless in comparison to the TIs. I'll give them some more time to bed in and for me to get more used to them too before I would really make a choice.
What is the tension like compared between TIs and 760fx? I'm talking about how hard you have to press down with your fretting hand. Do you notice any difference over an extended playing period - an hour or so?
 19.
You expect a gig to be great and it turns out sh*t. You expect a gig to be sh*t and it turns out great. What's that about?
This is exactly my experience for gigs, DJing, exhibitions and going to parties.
 20. Native Instruments Maschine This is the Mk1 version (the Mk2 is the same but with different lights and LED screen). It has very very little use (a few days at most) and is 100% mint condition cosmetically and functionally. Boxed, all packaging, disks, manuals, USB cable. It is a simple process to re-register the serial to the new owner (I have already talked to NI to confirm). Installer DVD is OS 1.5, and all NI Maschine OS upgrades are free, so you will have the most current version. This has been in my non-smoking studio, with a dust cover on. It is like new! Needs someone to use it as I intended to move over from my MPC but never did. £250 includes post Happy to do photos of the actual item if required.
 21.
Oh God - that is such a looker.
Thanks for the comments everyone
 22.
I'm having similar issues. I've got a few nice vinyls I want to move on and the dilemma is; 1) ship and risk them all snapping in half or 2) collection only and miss out on the larger market places.
There is definitely no need to worry about this, you just need some decent specialist boxes to ship. I've bought some recently from Germany and the box was amazing, like a double walled thing. I'l try and dig out some reference. But I've shipped loads of vinyl in just the standard heavy duty card envelopes with a stiffener inside and they're fine too. Also the sticky corugated cardboard is very good too, but not seen where to buy that.
 23. I bought this in my 20s but didn't really get it so it sat on the shelf. 20 years later I had another go and this time it sounded amazing. I must have needed those years to widen my mind! Amazing era-defining piece of art. In my opinion it was all downhill for jazz not long after this was released!
