1. From the thread title I thought the bass would be disgusting but it was even worse than I'd feared
2. Basschat Marketplace has all the best JVs at the moment! Bump for a beautiful bass!
3. excellent. george duke was the funkiest synth player ever
4.
Maybe it's time for you all to put your hands in your pockets and donate some cash to revamp the site that was revamped not that long ago. First world problems, eh.
The £20 subscription was introduced recently and anyone that is selling items over £50 (which includes me) has paid. An option to see a different amount of results per page isn't a revamp, and may already be a feature of the software which is easily enabled.
5. I'd like to see Basschat display more topics by default on the page, which would avoid so much page clicking. If not a default then an option to load '50, 100, 250' topics would be good. Download speeds are so good these days that its quicker to browse a long page rather than click through 4 or 5. Especially in the sales forum it would be a time saver and avoid a lot of the bumping to get back onto page 1. There are currently only about 20 topics before the page is full. Not a big issue by any means, but an option would be good in my opinion.
6. Price : reduced to [s]£700[/s] £650 Christmas Special! - £650 collected, includes hardcase, (UK delivery is + £29) Amazing condition all original JV Series Fender Squier Precision 57. Cloth covered wiring, original pots and pickups, reverse tuners, nut 1 and 5/8 of an inch (41.3mm), setup by Charlie Chandlers in Hampton. As you can see it is in really excellent condition with just a few minor surface marks, mainly on the back, one small ding on the front of the neck between frets, virtually no tarnishing to the chrome. Strung with LaBella 760fx flats. I can't imagine many 30 year old JVs are in this great condition. Weighs 7lb 15oz. It currently has a 3 ply parchment pickguard that the Bass Doc cut for me using the original pickguard as a template so all the holes line up perfectly. I have the original single ply white pickguard which will be included. I will include a mint condition generic hardcase (not original). I'm in Kingston Upon Thames if you'd like to come and try it. 7. interesting letter! the band were unhappy with the finished result though i seem to recall?
8. have a good gig! check your PMs when you get a chance. cheers ted
9. Daft Punk on so many levels... songs, sound, ideas, taste, originality...
10. I play exclusively with a pick. But fingers have better (tighter, snappier) muting. I'd like to be able to do it.
11.
[...]I fully believe that with the right amount of dedication, persistence and hard work, anyone can play anything that anyone else can play.
This is not true [edit - I should have said > I do not believe this to be true]
12. Oggy bought a strap from me. Great deal, nice chap to do business with Ted
13. I think sending Friday morning is perfectly reasonable. I never expect 'Amazon speed' when doing private sales.
14.
Thanks for all the replies most grateful. I've been working on it today, and there's an improvement. Not much yet, granted, but slowly. I shall get there. Thanks again
I'm often in these kind of situations. I like to remind myself of Homer Simpson's advice - "If at first you don't succeed, give up."
15.
There do seem to be a lot of bass players from Cardiff . It's a bass playing "hot spot ". Pino still lives there , apparently .
Someone told me his brother runs a pizza restaurant there called 'Palladinos'? Apparently he was (is?) a drummer. I bet he makes a very funky pizza.
16. I don't particularly love the sound of TI's (which to me is very middy), but if I try ANY other strings I get immediate tendon problems in my left arm. I really liked the sound of LaBella 760FM but even at drop D they were too high tension. I'm cautious about throwing any more money at flats as it seems like TI's are lowest tension out there. I must agree with BigRedX though - they appear to be low tension (to press to the fret) but the actual twanginess (which I think is compliance) seems fairly high?
17. jose bought my sfx thumpinator. very nice guy to deal with, a perfect deal. cheers! ted
18.
This is the perfect excuse to post a Yolanda Charles link
this is exactly what i'm talking about! trying to separate mind from hands. i'd like to be able to yabber on while playing a bassline.
19.
Yes often, especially when learning something. Comes of being an ex-dancer I think. All together now luvs: 'And a ONE two three four, kick two three four, ball-chang two three four' etc
there are many funny replies in this thread but this has so far produced the loudest chuckle
20. Do you count while playing? I can tap my foot on the 1/4 beats while playing any rhythm, no problem. I can count 1234 through some patterns but not others. Do you find it a good skill to have? Especially when you get to weird rhythms do you find you have to count them?
