1. must be legit, only the most cunning crim' would double bluff by only putting one string on it?!
2. this neck pocket doesn't appear to be stamped US. might it be stamped on the end of the neck? this isn't photographed. but if it was stamped i would have thought he would have photo'd it.
3.
I may be wrong but isn't the one designated PB70-**US made of alder, and the non US designated model made of basswood?
all current PB70s on the fender japan site are either alder or ash, even if they aren't the US model. don't know if this is the same for older models,
4. Upgrade to Logic Pro X? The new drummer instrument is great - you don't have to program it, it just goes off on its own!
5. thanks, does it have US written on it somewhere? its not in the serial no.
6. I'm after a MIJ PB70 Precision, I found this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Japan-Precision-Bass-PB70-US-Alder-Body-Olympic-white-Finish-/310708906589?pt=Guitar&hash=item4857b1aa5d body is pretty 'roadworn' which i don't mind, but i don't like dinged necks, and its hard to tell on this one. the price isn't too bad if i can avoid the vat duty. (new PB70s imported are about £900) I wondered if anyone bought from this dealer? they seem to have gone to some effort with photos etc. they say this is the USA pickup model, but i don't know how to confirm that... ted
7. According to www.dutycalculator.com a bass guitar has an import duty rate of 3.7% and VAT rate of 20%. Edit - don't know if VAT applies to second hand instruments?
8.
does logic run vst plug ins? there are some free guitar simulator ones, you just plug the guitar in and go
AU only
9.
[..](And before anyone jumps on me - I tutor HE students in Logic & Pro Tools and it's not a good thing to hide advanced but common audio engineering tools under sub-menus!).
i'm not sure what you mean?
10. you need to know why you are buying 3rd party plugins, and if you don't know logic very well how can you decide? so i would definitely suggest not buying any plugins, unless for example you know you want the best piano sound money can buy and you can already tell you won't be satisfied with the Logic VIs. there is definitely no need to buy compressors, delays, phasers etc initially. you can't instal plugins from 10 into 9. also 10 will only run 64 bit plugins and there is no bridge. if you're not too bothered about the £140 then you could just get going in X and delete 9 (or even sell it). at least you won't be wondering if you're missing out! i really miss printed manuals btw, as i liked reading them in the bath...
11. a useful feature of Logic X is that you can turn off advanced features to varying degrees, so it can be set to be almost exactly like Garageband if you want (apparently). if you're coming from Garageband this would be very helpful, as one of the problems with Logic as a new user is that it is SO dense and tricky to get going. even for a pro user it might be quite useful as i think you can 'turn off' features like surround sound.
12. this is a good overview: http://www.youtube.c...d&v=xYba6E7Oeu0
13. This Logic Pro X seems a very underwhelming update I have to say, although I'm going on reviews and previews so I'll reserve proper judgement. Seems highly cosmetic for the most part, and the most crazy thing is it will not run on any system below 10.8.4 which was released a few weeks ago! Are Apple for real?! Most instruments seem to have remained the same, a few add ons. Some things like the arrpegiator are very welcome, but really these should have been there ages ago and are standard in other apps. it certainly doesn't seem to be a re-write like Final Cut X was (which caused massive uproar). I'm wondering if they abandoned making Logic X a re-write for fear of losing their core user base. I have to disagree with some posts above, lots of the Logic instruments and plugins are very good and hold their own against lots of 3rd party plugs. But for highly realistic instruments then definitely the high end strings, drums etc 3rd party stuff will be better. Trouble with lots of Logic's instruments are their terrible GUIs, eg Ultrabeat, EXS24 etc. to the OP I would say make sure your version 9 is upgraded to the latest version and stick with that.
14. all good tips thanks. i will never look at a well proportioned rear in the same way... ted
15. sorry i decided to hang onto it and forgot to update the post now updated.
16. i agree, i'd stick to the tried and tested engineers headphones - Beyerdynamic DT770, Audio Technica ATH M50. They're in your price range too. Search on gearslutz.com if you need more opinions, but the same few always get the thumbs up.
17. have you got any more pictures? perhaps bigger size. also what is the weight and the width of the nut please?
18. I've recently become a big fan of the lagging bassline feel that is often used in some RnB / Hip Hop, as expertly demonstrated by Pino Palladino with D'Angello, Jose James, etc Bearing in mind I'm no expert bass player by any means, but I can play ok 'on the beat', but when I've tried to record it lagging like this it can just sound like its gone wrong and is basically out of time and rubbish... Any tips on getting this feel right? or practice tips to improve?
19.
[...] Also "Its just sounds so.....Nazi to me." I think you need to re-examine German history 1935-45.
Did you not see The Young Ones in the 80s?!
20. These are standard 34" scale strings (long scale) which i believe is 37" ball to silk.
21. PB62 MIJ Precision, rosewood fretboard, 3 tone sunburst, virtually mint, 44.5mm nut. I think it is a 2008 model. Weighs 8lbs 8oz I picked this up here recently and it is a really great bass, with an amazingly good tone. However I am used to a 42mm nut width and I'm not really getting on with this slightly thicker neck, so I'm putting out a feeler for trades. I believe that this wider neck, more authentic to a proper 62 P, may be less common on these MIJ models. Comes with a very flimsy gig bag. Very slight fretwear, strung with rounds and currently tuned to drop D. All original parts. Would really be interested in trades at this point, looking for MIJ Precisions with a slimmer neck (42mm nut or less). Please PM me trade offers. I've put some pics here but you can view them at higher res on this link: http://s1283.photobu...n?sort=3&page=1 Come and try it out if you like, I'm in Kingston, Surrey
22. It's purely down to what aesthetic appeals to the owner, I don't have a problem with it really. Plenty of items are made to look 'worn in' as its more visually appealing for certain people - jeans, plant pots, garden furniture, bricks etc. I'd like to see some basses available with lightly 'worn in' necks and slightly aged bodies but without the cheesy fag burns and dents.
23. I've got a similar job - after making the dinner for my girlfriend I can have a few drinks, but picking up the bass is strictly forbidden.
