1. Gig is only 15 mins long, we have 4 simple songs that could do with a bit of brass! Simple stabs and a couple of jazz-ish solos. I'm in Kingston, SW London/Surrey.
2. i'd be interested too if anyone know's any good guitarists' forums with decent sales sections. i've not found any. 'other musically related items' on basschat is good, but guitars seem to hang around for ages.
3. mods, my advert in basses for sale seems to have disappeared? here's the direct link: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/203331-fender-squier-japan-1984-a-series-32-precision-medium-scale-mij/ but its not visible in the listings? (it was previously visible in the listings) ted
4. i've been through about a hundred picks looking for 'the one'! what have you settled on?
5. Fender Squier 1984 A-Series 32" Precision MIJ Medium Scale Bass, all original. One of the excellent and highly rated early Japanese Squiers. Currently strung with TI Flats. This is a lovely bass, really great neck, I would describe it as nicely chunky with slightly chamfered fretboard edges. Lightweight, I don't have scales here but I'm guessing 8lbs max as it feels lighter than my 8lb 8oz full size P (if weight is crucial i'll take it to work to weigh it). Frets are on the medium jumbo side and in very good condition, no sharp edges at all and I have had it professionally set up with a low action and no buzzes. Neck is dead straight. Neck and headstock is in good condition,(some scratches on the back of the headstock) but it does have several dings on the body - around the strap buttons and underside, and lots of small surface marks, scuffs etc - and one tiny ding on the upper side of the neck at around 3rd fret. Please download the full set of images for more info. It looks vintage, its 28 years old. Its a superb player but the body is certainly is not in mint condition, so if that's your thing look away! The sound is FAT. I play this one with the tone rolled almost completely off and it has a tubby thick sound with super chunky low end. Has Thomastik Flats on at the moment. Medium scale - you don't see many of these around! Obviously the neck is slightly shorter but the whole bass is slightly scaled down compared to a full size P. No case, but will be well packed. I have sold several basses on here, please check my feedback. Any questions please ask. I can email you the original jpgs, and I'm in Kingston SW London/Surrey - you're welcome to check it out. [s]For Sale £395 posted (trades - possibly other P's but more interested in a sale)[/s] WITHDRAWN - decided to keep it Thanks Ted
6. I found this great tune on youtube, posted the bass playalong as well as the original as I like watching the guy play the super funky bassline! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvAPDtGPz7w http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3nvl7IqmjU Please add some more corkers.
7. My friend has a mid 80s Epiphone Casino MIJ and its really great, I've been trying to buy it off him for years. They are hard to find in my experience. I think Epiphone went the way of Squier after the 80s. I bought an Epihone in the late 90s and it wasn't great, I sold it very soon after buying it. I haven't tried any recently.
8. if i had a rickenbaker that beautiful i'd start playing guitar again keep it!
9. i've got one of these and i think its great! just thought i'd chip in...
10. i've had the MXR bass octave deluxe, the Aguilar, and the Boss OC2. for me (and this might vary depending on playing technique, strings etc) MXR tracked the best by long way and had the best sound (but not square wave-ish like the oc2) - you can dial in what sound you want with two knobs. However, I found it has a subtle clicking (like a watch ticking) that drove me nuts. Some people say they don't have this, but there are other reports around and I tried three different ones with different basses and they all did it. So try before you buy i reckon. Aguilar didn't track the low strings for me that well, but its got a good fat sound with low pass filter which is nice. you can do super-sub with this thing. I ended up keeping the the OC2 as I like the very 'synth like' square wave-esq tone it puts out. It tracks well enough. Its basic. its analogue, OC3 is digital as far as i know, so don't go there!
11. whereabouts in london is the bass?
12.
right im new to this and also trying to see if i can learn the two finger technique and have found three (hopefully) useful ways which may help 1, using a clock with a pendulum i face it and when its on the left i use my index and when it goes to the right use my middle finger also good practice to help keep intime as long as you can ignore the tick tock but mine is quiet on my clock. Perhaps a metronome could also be used like this.
this doesn't work coming down the scale if you use the raking technique when going from string to string, demonstrated in the scottbass video in my previous post. i.e. when you change strings (downwards) you will use the same finger for two consecutive notes. (difficult to explain, easy to see!) you can choose to alternate but in my efforts to learn with two fingers i think the raking technique is more economical and easier to play.
13.
As another trying to move to two fingers, are there any specific exercises that anyone can suggest? Thanks Steve
this is good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNAYIfITgpw
14. very interesting, thanks for that. interesting point about how its a lot to do with how you feel playing the line, even if the sound is very similar.
15. i had a six stringer... (but it was a fender stratocaster)
16.
Also it is a downgrade, does it have less of something, yes
less of something isn't a downgrade! a downgrade would be to get a 6 string...
17. Bought a mint condition Markbass LM3 from Harry. Excellent deal from start to finish Great communications as ever and much appreciated. Thanks! Ted
18.
If it's any consolation, I can't make it go away either.
lol i understand the idea, it would be nice if it could be turned off once it's read, its quite intrusive?!
