1. i totally agree about professional traders, and i'm sure pretty much everyone on this thread will agree that they aren't very welcome and don't do the site any service, although personally i've not seen any examples of this 'flipping'...

what i do object to is this notion that as a non-trader bass player, buying and selling a few basses per year, you are morally obliged to sell it for the same price you bought it, and now this is even being suggested by the mods?!

it is for example in my opinion totally reasonable to think that some fender MIJ signature models are increasing (slightly) in value purely because they are becoming more sought after now production has moved to mexico. i don't think its unreasonable or insulting or anti-comunity to put it up at £100 more than you bought it for a year ago, knowing full well that what usually happens is that the seller is going to make you an offer of what they consider reasonable anyway. i put my MIJ Geddy Jazz up for £600 having paid £500 six months ago. it sold for £530 inc post, which once you take off the postage strings and setup equates to roughly £30 loss.

its hardly the housing boom! and yet me and a few other people on here are getting labled as the 'types that will screw you into the ground' over price just because we don't object to someone trying to make a few quid on an occasional deal. i think a bit of perspective is in order!

2. Is there anyone actually doing this mythical 'flipping' apart from the one example mentioned above? I'm not an expert but I don't see any evidence of this on the site. All I see is a large amount of nice but unsold basses steadily getting reduced in price, while we argue about the terrifying prospect of someone making fifty quid profit :) The prices always seem pretty keen here and anything that isn't just drops down the listings unsold doesn't it?

Maybe these Professional Flippers are the members who can barely operate their digital cameras and can't get a single decent picture into their advert! :gas:

3. i got very nice service from the guy that works on the set-ups downstairs - we chatted about strings.
upstairs was different where a 'anything i can help you with mate?' wouldn't have gone amiss!

gotta say that their 'price match' is a bit suspect (certainly for strings), and they advertise it big time on their site so they can't blame people for asking.

Personally I think there's something callous about a member of this forum buying a bass on here cheap with the sole intent of selling it on at profit to someone who could have had it at the price the profiteering member did.

So this unspecified 'someone' is now being forced to buy the bass for more money? Presumably the 'profiteering member' was able to jump in and snap up this bass because they are so rich they can surf the internet with a super fast computer?!!

The reality is that basses are hanging around for ages in the marketplace, despite a lot of attractively low prices. The amount you can pick up a barely played US Precision for example is amazing.

The only two problems I've had here trying to buy a bass is that having agreed a deal the seller has either sold it someone else, or has decided to withdraw it.

5. Crikey, i just found this - Miles Davis - The Cellar Door Sessions 1970...
I realise they were re-issued a couple of years ago, but I've only just discovered them being new to this sort of thing and all that (I only got Live Evil last week).
They sound like the Holy Grail, I've just ordered them...!
