1. this is a bit hard to describe but i'd like my bass to sit further to the left of my body when standing. it would be the equivalent of having it on your left leg when sitting. this is because i'm getting right-shoulder pains which are eased if the bass is further to my left side... (i'm right handed)

i wondered if trying a back of headstock strap nut, or a 'lower horn' strap nut would shift the position at all.
before i go drilling useless holes into my bass i wanted to ask opinions! as its a bit difficult to try out.

2. i wanted to experiment with low tension roundwounds and bought at 40-100 set of DR HiBeams.and also a set of Thomastik JR344 (these come in one weight 39 to 85 i think)

however as i usually play Thomastik flats i just couldn't get on with roundwounds at all, so both sets are on sale having been played for 20 mins at most. pm me if you're interested.

for the record, in comparison with TI flats which are known for being pretty low tension, i would say the DRs feel a little more tense, and the TI roundwounds feel very very very low tension. they also feel unusually thin.

3. i know this question was aimed at the ladies but . . . i hunted down an old 32" scale japanese precision as i wanted to move up from guitar. i've since had some 34" scale basses but i've returned to the 32 as i love the feel of it and it actually sounds great, plus it's light. i'm actually over 6 ft with enourmously long fingers but i still like the smaller scale, probably due to the years on guitar.

i would definitely recommend trying medium scale bases if you find 34" scale too big or heavy. you can buy 32" fender jazz and aerodynes new direct from japan, they are on ebay, plus i have the details of a dealer in london who imports them and sorts out all the duty and all that. pm me if you're interested as i can't remember the name and i'll have to dig it out.

also there was a 32" jazz on the sales forum lately. i happened to try a 34" fender aerodyne in denmark st today and that was pretty cool too - lightweight, nice thin jazz neck and with precision pickup as well as a jazz pickup. looks nice if you're into shiny black things too.

i've not tried anything smaller than a 32" scale but i see fender have some short 30 scale basses at the moment.

good to know there are some women on this forum. kim deal is one of my favourite bass players for keeping it simple and probably the coolest person in the rock universe!

4. A lot of listings are appearing at the moment without pictures, or offering to email pictures, due to the upload being broken!
Listings are more fun with pics :)

I'm sure there are other solutions but the one I'm using is tiny pic:

You don't need to sign up and its free.
Upload your images one at a time and it will display a code that you paste into your listing - it begins with IMG.

Your images stay there for as long as they are required and auto delete after 90 days if no-one is viewing them.

5. Japan made Geddy Lee Signature Fender Jazz Bass.
This is my favourite neck of any bass I have played, Jazz neck but a bit thinner front to back,
I would love to keep it but I have to move it on.
The bass is in superb condition, the only sign of any wear is on the scratchplate.
No dings, no scratches, no scuffs. Amazing tone and playability.

Current production of these are made in Mexico, so the MIJ production are the basses to have in my opinion.

£600 delivered, includes very high quality soft case and TI Flats (or DR Hi Beams if you prefer)

Kingston, Surrey for collection / try out. (No trades thanks)

6. Fantastic japanese made Fender 'Classic 70s Series' P-Bass, bought brand new last month - unfortunately circumstances require me to sell this having barely played it.

New - £857

PRICE DROP:

£625 collected! / £655 posted

My search for a 'Made In Japan' model of this bass mean't I bought this MIJ new and imported it from USA.

100% mint, not a blemish, scuff or single mark. Has a Fender nice quality soft case (this how it comes new) - and I will post in the original tough box it came from USA.

I don't have scales here but I'm estimating 9lbs (can confirm this later when i get back to work). Alder body, fantastic neck, sounds amazing. Includes thumb rest and allen key, strung with Fender roundwounds.

Stainless Steel Bass Strings wound on Round Cores
Hi-Beam stainless steel bass strings are round wound and constructed upon a round core which is unique in the industry. Hi-Beams require much more time, care, and extra steps to make than other bass strings. The extra effort DR expends making Hi-Beams results in a bass string that is highly flexible, musically bright (not harshly bright) and renowned for durability, unusually long life, consistency, and string-to-string balance. They don’t eat your frets. HI-BEAMS are the string to choose for brightness, punch and ease of playing.
