1. Is there a single person who has gone out of their way to have a little bitch about Adam Clayton on here who can lay claim to responsibility to a more universally recognised bass line than With or Without You? In four notes, he's achieved more than most ever will, myself included. When people have a go at him, it very often smacks of bitterness, jealousy and/or a sense of their own superiority. His name only has to be mentioned and the same tired old trolls can't wait to spew their bile everywhere. When people bang on about him playing root notes, it's clear they just haven't listened to a lot of U2's output, and if they don't like U2 that's fair enough, but it just serves to make their opinion even more irrelevant.

    SOLD

Having recently acquired a StingRay 5 I was inspired to go down the StingRay 4 route again as they're a bass I often lust for but had yet to find one which stuck around. I traded for this and, as with previous Ray4's, I find it really comfortable to play, but the tone just isn't where I prefer it to be when I'm gigging, which is basically on the warmer, more thudding side whereas this is very present and cutting. For many of you, and indeed for me in a whole different band, that would be fab, but it's not right for me right now so I'm looking to get it into the hands of a new owner who will truly appreciate all it has to offer. The serial number points to a 1995/96 manufacture date and it features the transitional bridge which would tie up with that era. One of it's previous owners clearly rocked hard because the body has plenty of dings on the rear and some on the front too. Because of the natural finish, you won't see them from a few feet away, but if it's in your lap, you'll spot them easily. For some that's going to be an issue but for other I'm sure, like me, you'll just view it as part of the character and charm of the bass. The neck has been well cared for and there's no dings or marks I've spotted. It is silky smooth and with the oiled finish, it is very rewarding to play. It's also made from a nicely figured chunk of birdseye maple. All the hardware works as it should At some point (some time ago I'm guessing), the pick-up was replaced with a Seymour Duncan BasslInes model. It seems to give this particular Ray a little more bite at the top end than others I've tried. I'm looking to raise cash in an ideal world. I'm asking £650 but I'm open to offers and a part-ex deal with cash coming to me is a possibility. I could go for a MIM or MIJ P or J; Yamaha BB1024x; Lakland 55-01 or even a FleaBass as I have a bit of a soft spot for them. I could maybe to a straight swap for other Lakland 5s, StingRay 5 or maybe even a DJ4 (especially a red one!) There's no hard case sorry but I can include a gigbag and could send by courier, very well packed, for £25. PM me or txt/call me on 07515 929935.
  3. Crazy that this hasn't sold so open to crazy cash offers.

  5. Possibly controversial, but my very subjective experience/observation is that there's been a substantial increase in the number of buyers/sellers from outside the UK in recent years. They seem more likely to be selling high-end, exotic, high-priced basses than the more run-of-the-mill MIM Fenders and so on that we used to see on here. Again, extremely subjective, but for me, many of these sellers items are very over-priced and many of the buyers who get in touch are either complete time-wasters who disappear or looking for something for nothing, sometimes to the point of offense. That having been said, where I have bought or sold with guys overseas, the deals have been every bit as smooth as any from the UK. Also, in general, there used to be a kinda unwritten rule that if you bought a bass on here for a great price and decided to sell it on, you would generally sell it on at around the price you paid for it. Now, I see basses being advertised with £100s added to the price they were bought for only weeks before. None of this stops me buying or selling, it's just not as easy to do or, frankly, as nice to do as it used to be.
Howdy - what do you mean when you say the nut is only marginally closer than on a standard scale bass? Would you say the feel is bigger than an short SG / EB3 bass or about the same?
I've not played an SG/EB3 type. I have played the Fender short scale bass (MusicMaster?). Anyway, I guess what I mean is that this bass doesn't feel like a small bass. The strap button sits over the 17th fret whereas on a P or J bass, and even the MusicMaster/Mustang/Bronco basses it's near enough over the 12th fret. This means that, coming from a full size J type bass to the Allen Woody, the nut is pretty much in the same position in relation to your body when you have the bass on a strap. I would guess the EB-3 probably has a similar effect by virtue of the button being behind the heel of the neck. Hope that makes some sense!
  8.
"2 x Thomann Premium GigBags : total length: 106cm, lower width: 36cm, upper width: 32cm, depth: 9cm. Colour: Brown I think you need to check that length, a typical Fender P gig bag is approx 126cm
Good spot, I copied the guitar spec, not the bass spec! Should read: water-resistant leatherex bag for bass guitar, 30mm high density industrial padding (extra firm), four external accessory pockets, hide-away thomann backpack straps, velcro neck fastener with cushion, side carrying strap with heavy metal fittings, neck and bridge protections. Colour: Brown; Internal Dimensions: length 120 cm x width (neck) 18 cm (body) 39 cm x high 10,5 cm FWIW not sure on the length of a typical P-Bass but a 35" scale Lakland DJ5 (jazz bass shaped) and a 34" scale Lakland JO4 (also Jazz shaped) fit comfortably.
  9. Pic here http://www.thomann.d...9140150_800.jpg from the guitar model

    Withdrawn

Last bump. Will withdraw from sale if no takers. <rant> I'm happy to receive offers, but please only make an offer if you're planning to follow through on it. I've had 4 people make offers for this bass who, when the offer was accepted, have disappeared off the face of the earth, not even a "Can't do the deal now," type message, just flat out silence. Especially annoying if using the PM system on here, whereby you know they've read your message asking them to just advise if a deal is on or off and still they've not been courteous enough to reply. </rant>
  20.
DR Medium Dragonskin-
Medium as in gauge or scale length? Also, are they coloured?
  21. Do you know if these are long enough to string through the body on a 35" scale like a Lakland for example? D'addario do a super-long scale which I've gone for in the past on the basis I don't know if ordinary long scale would do the job.
