I don't think you're playing out of time. What I think is happening is that when you're playing a fill or moving away from the core groove you're just not always getting yourself back into the groove again in a smooth fashion. In particular, sometimes you are trying to squeeze an extra note or two into a fill and the groove becomes secondary. There's a good example of you doing this at 0.16 to 0.18. You play a nice little lick but as you get to the downbeat it feels rushed and awkward because there's only just time to start the groove again without any lead into it. It feels sudden, which is not the same as out of time. I'm guilty of this on occasions. In my covers band I can be playing a song I've played 100s of times before and for some reason, the jazz fairy srpinkles some magic dust and I'll wander off piste. If I happen to catch myself thinking about it at the wrong time, I'll end up a long way from the correct note and beat. You can get away with it as an occasional fluff, but if it's regular habit then you need to start planning how you get back to the groove earlier in your improvisation.

Yamaha BB414 - who knew? And what of its big brothers?
P-T-P replied to P-T-P's topic in Bass Guitars
Who new? Actually, there's a lot of love for BBs on this forum - try a search. G.
I'm guessing that the "partly rhetorical, partly self-depricating" I was hoping to get across with my "who knew" comment didn't quite come over as well as I'd have liked. Apologies if I've offended in some way. I've had a few Yamaha's over the years, mostly TRBs, which while exceptionally well constructed, never quite hit the mark for me. It never made me think any less of the company. Nonetheless I am genuinely impressed at how good a bass the BB414, even with Yamaha's excellent reputation. -
Yamaha BB414 - who knew? And what of its big brothers?

Thanks for the info. Still can't believe that a bass as relatively cheap as this is proving far more satisfactory than many, many far more expensive and/or exotic beasts that I've owned. -
Recently swapped a FleaBass for a Yamaha BB414. Wasn't expecting too much, just something different for the occasional noodle at home. As I often do with a new bass, I took it gigging just to see how it would cope in the real world. Like many basses before it, I fully expected to stick with it for a couple of numbers before reverting to my main bass (Lakland DJ5 with Bartolini pre-amp). To my amazement, the Lakland hasn't had a look in. Haven't picked it up in weeks and done about 6 hours of gig-time with the Yamaha now. It's extremely well made, very comfortable and sounds loud and clear - warm without being wooly and punchy without being twangy. First gig the E string was a little flabby, but pick-up just was too close and the D/G strings are maybe a smidge thinner sounding than the E/A strings, but I'm sure that's just a set-up issue. Long story short I'm astonished at how good this bass is, especially considering the price point. Which leads me to wonder, how much better might the 424, 424-X and 1024-X be. Yamaha's website isn't too clear on making a big deal of the differences too much, aside from the obvious cosmetic ones. Anyone care to shed some light?

Having had some new computers and a tidy up in my offices, there's a large pile of computer gear in various states of repair which we'd like to get rid of asap. There's a number of computers and a server - all hard drives removed - some of which worked (before hard drives removed), some of which needed attention (PSU gone in some). There are printers, monitors, keyboards, mice, UPS, network switches. All told, there's probably a couple of hundred quid to be made by someone with the means to break it down into parts. I would do it myself but don't have the time (or home with space/wife with patience). It's free to anyone who will collect from Chepstow, S. Wales. The only condition is that you take the lot - no cherry picking - and either recycle or responsibly dispose of anything you can't use yourself. PM me or call/txt me on 07515 929935. Cheers, Pete

Hi, I don't have a case for it, but will pack it well for posting. I carry it in a padded bag that's still in use with other bits and bobs. Gator have started doing a special IEM cue/bag type thing which can be had from Thomann for about £20 or so. I was thinking about getting one. Pic here https://www.icloud.com/photostream/#A65oqs3qdae2d if you click on the pic it zooms in and shows more of the unit. Pete

SOLD Looking to raise some funds for a lovely bass I've seen so trying to sell some of the bits of gear which I use least or which can be fairly easily replaced at a later date. This is a fantastic system comprising the P4T transmitter and P4R wireless receiver. They're the "KE" versions which basically means they operate in the 842-865 MHz range, which is the typical UK frequency band for UHF wireless. This range includes the deregulated Channel 70 (863 MHz – 865 MHz) which is the license free channel that will continue to work following the Spectrum changes of 2012. In a nutshell, it's all kosher and will work in the UK without need for a wireless operators license. The P4T info on Shure's site is here http://www.shure.co....ransmitters/p4t The P4R info is here http://www.shure.co....g_receivers/p4r Together they are a great monitoring system, not least because of the stereo/mix mode option.

If you feed a single signal into the transmitter, the receiver sends it to both ears
If you feed a stereo signal into the transmitter, the receiver can send the L/R stereo mix to your phones or...
Using mix mode, the receiver can create a mono mix of the two channels and the balance control acts like a crossfader between the L/R signals.
What does this mean in practical use? Put the main mix in the L channel and your bass or vocals into the R channel then use the mix mode on the receiver to create a personal mix with more bass/vocals. System is in very good but used cosmetic condition and excellent working condition. You just need to add some phones as I will keep my buds (unless someone really wants to pay for some second hand in-ear phones, which is a bit gross really). New the system is £600+ I'm looking for £300 but I'm very open to offers for a quick-ish sale, just PM me or txt/call on 07515 929935. Pete

Bought this a while back as a usable and fun back-up but now have my eyes on something yum so could do with raising some funds so hoping to sell this. I know the Fleabass line were a bit hit and miss in the QC department but this one is spot on. It plays great, sounds fab and looks the part. I've given it a nice set-up since getting it and it comes with the very lovely Fleabass gigbag. Pics here https://www.icloud.c...#A6JtdOXmJ0Wmp7 I'm looking for [s]£230[/s] £200 ono for it, collected from Chepstow, S. Wales but I'm very open to offers as would like to get some cash asap. Posting a possibility, will need to figure it out as not keen on posting in just a gigbag. I do have a soft-light type case which could be used in shipping for a little extra, could maybe meet up somewhere too. Part-Ex/Trades Wouldn't mind adding some cash to this to trade up - I like Laklands (particularly the 5s), Fenders etc. TRB5 maybe. Maybe a Status of some kind. Open to ideas but not really big on basses that have had lots done to them - don't mind an added pre-amp new pick-ups but wholesale changes tend to leave me cold. Quite like the Allen Woody Rublekat which would be around similar value I suppose. Also looking for...

Cheap-ish IEM set-up
EHX Enigma Q Balls
Digitech BSW
Nice chorus pedal
PM or call/txt me on 07515 929935 to discuss.

Selling as we've just picked up some Mackies which are full range and powerful enough to make this a bit superfluous to requirements. It's a compact 12" active sub which kicks out 250w RMS and up to 500w peak. It weighs in a at a relatively light 23kg. Numbers aside, it's ideal if you need to put some bass and drums through the PA and/or just want more FOH guts without having to splash out a small fortune and carry loads of additional gear. I was pretty astonished by how loud this thing actually is (and also how much it beefed up our vocals). It's in great working but used condition so has a few cosmetic marks here and there but is far from unsightly. The Wharfedale blurb is here http://www.wharfedal...21/Default.aspx Looking for [s]£220[/s] now £180 ono collected from Chepstow, S. Wales or could maybe post for £20 in the UK or could meet up. Would like a quick sale as I need to free up some space to please make an offer by pm or call/txt me on 07515 929935. Picture uploader doesn't seem to be working at the mo so pm your e-mail and I will send pic. Pete
