1.
ill take the digitech synth wah bud!
Cool , can you send me a PM with your details and ho you want to pay etc.?
2. I use DR Extras, pretty sure DR Sunbeams would be fine too (though I don't like those so much).
3. Ta. On the Leo Quann web site they suggest using a V bridge on a 4 string bass for the added mass is actually a good idea and the holes all line up too apparently! Seems odd to me.
4. Here's the link to for sale thread for the TRB http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=26746&hl= . Think it is still available and the seller is a nice guy to deal with.
5. S/H Yamaha TRB1005? There was one in the for sale section a wee while back that I used to own. It's finished in a transluscent red colour and looks great. Fits the bill for you tone wise too.
6. Danelectro Cool Cat Chorus 18v - A fantastic pedal that lots of bass players overlook, possibly because of it's 9v sibling not cutting the mustard but this 18v version is delicious and beats the pants off most dedicated bass chorus pedals and is a total bargain to boot. £30 posted Gator G-BUS 8 power supply SOLD DOD FX2O Stereo Phaser SOLD Open to trades too - looking for studio monitors, DR Extra strings (5 string), 100w (ish) power amps, bass practice amp (ashdown mini stack thing maybe?), kick drum mic, drum mics, headphone amp. PM me or leave a response if you're interested.
7. Hopefully you know the score here. This is a direct replacement for the Fender V bridges but will naturally do the job on many other basses too. Is suitable for basses with through body stringing. It's in great nick and the saddles are already grooved so it's a case of just putting it on your bass and off you go. Not sure how much to ask really, think they're about £75 new so how about £50 posted? Drop me a PM. NOW SOLD
8. Can I suggest that if the venue is more Bristol way it opens the door to the Welsh - or maybe we need a bash of our own? Or maybe there could be a Wales and the West bash covering the South Wales, Herefordshire, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire, Avon area which then would allow for the South West bash to be moved further South and/or West to make it more appealing to those in Cornwall/Devon. Though BassChat being what it is, I'm sure the welcome would be extended beyond boundaries.

Just to add a little balance, my band has used a Behringer powered mixer for the last 3 years, doing about 250 gigs in that time. It's the single best bit of kit we have bought.
10. I contacted www.iMuso.co.uk yesterday to ask if their prices reflected the 15% VAt change and they replied that they did, which I found strange as there has not been a change in price over the past few weeks. They may just have been miffed about me pointing out that their returns policy which incuded a compulsory 2% restocking fee plus £10 admin fee was inconsistent with the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations. In respect of companies justifying swallowing the VAT reduction by claiming they're holding off price increases forced by suppliers until they need to re-stock, that's a crock of sh*t. If the price of their next order is going to go up compared to the last one, why are they keeping the VAT reduction for goods they have already got in stock which were not affected by supplier price rises? It's that kind of penny-pinching across the entire business world which gets us into recession in the first place and will keep us there longer than is necessary.
11. I have to put forward the humble Behringer XM8500 which are pretty much every bit as good as an SM58 for about £15-£20. Also the SM57 and SM58 are, according to Shure, the same mic with the exception that the shape of the 57 allows the pick-up to get closer to the sound source than a 58 can.
12. I may be wrong on this, but I think the string spacing at the bridge is actually adjustable up to 18.5mm.
13.
The problem is when I'm playing live and start thinking 'damn I'm playing well' it all goes to sh*t.
+1 For me it either goes, "Eight songs in and I've not hit a bum note yet... damint!" or I'll be seriosly feeling it, in the zone and go for a flurry of exotic notes instead of the fill I would normally play, nail the flurry perfectly while grinning at drummer and then forget the key change that follows lol
14. Lovely bass. Would recommend it to anyone.
15. Hi Tim, Most excellent description and Sandberg have supplied a diagram which pretty much equates exactly to what you've said, nice one.
16. Just acquired a Sandberg California JM5 which a previous owner had set-up with passive electronics. I have the original 2-Band EQ which I believe is a Glockenklang made unit. I've asked Sandberg and Glockenklang for wiring diagrams but in the meantime, perhaps someone here could throw some light on things. The bass has a J and MM pickup fitted, the MM can run in either humbucking or split coil mode via a two way mini toggle switch, which is still fitted and working with the passive controls. The controls for the original set-up are Volume - Balance - Treble boost/cut - Bass boost/cut. The Volume is a push/pull active/passive type and, when in passive mode, the treble control acts as a traditional passive tone control would. The whole thing is powered by a 9v battery. Here's a pic of what I have... The push/pull pot is the one on the left of this picture. It looks like when this lot were removed, the wires were all just clipped rather than de-soldered. On the reverse of the circuit board, there's a single red wire (battery?). Any suggestions as to what should connect where? Anyone with a Sandberg JM or PM care to open theirs up and draw up a rudimentary schematic? I'd be grateful for any assistance.
17. Definitely quite different basses. I've owned both JO5 and DJ5 with maple and rosewood boards, active and passive controls. The bass I kept is a DJ5, maple board with Aeros and a Bartolini NTBT eq fitted, no passive option. I've gone through a bunch of back-up basses since I got it (including JO5 and a rosewood passive DJ5) and while all of them have, in their own way, made noises that I've thought were great, as soon I put the DJ5 back on, I'm reminded of everything that was missing. A JO5 with maple board, Fralins and a J-Retro fitted was a very versatile bit of kit, but there wasn't a single tone that came from it that I didn't think the DJ5 could do better. The passive DJ5 was, to my mind, the most versatile of passive basses I've played. The tone control on it was very versatile indeed, much more so than on either of the JO5's when passive, though again, they made some lovely noises. The DJ5 with Aeros is very much a modern retro affair - sorta classic jazz bass but with a more focused, thicker bottom end and crunchier top. Loud too. The JO5 is much more old school. For me the DJ does it but I can see how it's not for everyone because it's not subtle.

Colours!

As much as I can appreciate a fancy natural finish or a good sunburst, give me a custom colour pretty much every time... Shell Pink, Sonic Blue, Burgundy Mist, Candy Apple Red... love 'em
19. Offers, part-ex, trades anyone (wouldn't mind an electro-acoustic 6 stringer such as an Epiphone J200 CE or soemtihng along those lines). Bass stuff naturally welcome too.
20. Yeah, would have been v. interested if it was the newer shape 'cause then it would stack nicely under my 2x10 combo. They changed it towards the end of last year I think.
21.
I'll get me measuring tape out tonight I think it's pretty new, it's certainly larger in all dimensions than the 121P if that helps?
Does it lok like 1,2 or 3? 1. 22.
Amazing little combo and extension cab, both in fantastic condition - the cab even still has its shop tag attached! I've been using the combo for rehearsals and have only gigged it once but can definitely attest to its ability to cut through in a live band situation against a fairly loud drummer. Adding the extension cab adds more depth & volume and the pair look quite cool stacked together. I'm only selling as I've decided to go a separate cab / head route for slightly more flexibility in rehearsal and gig situations. I'd be looking for £500 for the combo & £300 for the cab with a bit of a reduction (£775?) for the pair As stated in the sub-header I may already have someone interested so will hold back on further details for the moment but zap me a PM if anyone else is keen
What shape is the Traveller cab? Is it the older cube shaped one or the newer one which has the same width as the standard size cabs?
23. Selling these on behalf of guitarist from my band. I use these at rehearsals but he could do with some cash so I said I'd see if there was any interest here. The head is SOLD The cab is an unbranded 1x15" which was purchased together with the GK head. I'm not sure exactly on spec of this but it copes admirably with the output from the GK and the two together sound fantastic. There's plenty of low end beef there but it's surprsingly punchy too. I played my newly strung Lakland Duck Dunn P-Bass through it the other day and had a wicked slap tone, way better than I'd get from my MarkBass 2x10" combo without some serious eq-ing. The cab is compact and relatively lightweight (not neo cab light, but a comfortable one person lift) and has decent castors fitted so transporting would be a doddle. These two together cost £225 second hand and that's what we'd like to get back for them one way or another. Ideally by selling the two together but may split if that's not possible. ONly thing with splitting them is I've no idea really of the value of the head and/or what someone might pay for the cab. For example, I wouldn't want to sell the cab for £50 only to find the head won't fetch £175. Anyone with an ida on pricing for the head, please send me a PM. Items are in Newport South Wales, woudl prefer collection but can probably arrange delivery at buyer's expense.
24. Should get a second hand Lakland Skyline of flavour or other in that price bracket. Maybe a JO4 or one of the 44 series basses if you particularly like the dimensions of the jazz neck or a BG4 if you fancy something a little different but want to stick with a more traditional theme. Loads of SH Warwicks available to you if you are looking for a real departure from the MIM jazz. SH Stingrays and Sterlings are almost in your reach too. Also, something to consider when buying second hand, if you decide you don't like it you're not going to lose much money, if any at all, trying to sell it on, whereas if you buy a new bass, when you come to sell it, you can kiss goodbye to anywhere from 30-60% of what you paid for it.
25. Personally, I think you're totally entitled to do whatever you want to do with your rig. Especially as it's not even your band. I think hiring out the rig is a dodgy road to start down. What if it breaks mid-gig, does that make you responsible for the problems becuase you've hired out equipment that wasn't up to the job? What if something serious goes wrong with it and someone gets hurt? Are you liable? My instincts would be to point out in as nice but firm a fashion as possible that you bought the amp for your use, in your circumstances when playing with this band and that it's not really cool for others to use the rig on any kind of regular or even semi-regular basis. You have your rig sorted for this gig, the other deps should do the same. The only other alternative is that the band should supply the rig for all the deps (and you could sell them yours, or the Ashdown perhaps). There's no need for it to be acrimnonius and I'm sure everyone will understand. It's your gear, bought and paid for with your cash specifically to make your life easier. Let anyone else figure out their own solutions, it's not as though the money isn't there from the gigs. Or they could just make you their bass player and be done with it lol
