  1. i have a swan flightcase - i removed the support from underneath the main board which dropped it about 35-40mm. the front top edge of the helix now sits level with the extrusion around the case. You can just about make out how far it now sits in the lower half of the case on this pic :-
  2. that's very kind of you to say so - does that mean i can now wear my special pointy hat in public now ? ☺️☺️
  3. no probs at all - if you'd like to send me the dimensions and pics as a PM, i'll have a look
  4. They are 3D printed ABS with a 100% fill and are very strong. Happy to have a look at making some for the Helix Floor model if you like. Will need some rough dimensions of where the rubber feet are so i can design them for the board fixing screw access. You may find it a bit tricky using bike chain side-plates on the Floor due to the feet being inset under that model - I know Dood has an LT which makes it easier using that method as the feet are close to the outer profile.
  5. Although it’s on an LT, I made these to screw the unit down to my Swan pedalboard (the green bits). They are designed to replace the rubber feet and use the same mounting screws. The ones for the Helix Floor would need to be of a different design due to the rubber feet position but it’s possible.
  6. I’m more interested if there is a recognised spec for the bend radius and angle - I would hate to do it wrong 🤣
  7. Ha, well you sound like an expert so who am I to question.....
  8. I guess I’ve been changing strings wrong then for 35 years or so...... 😉 if the core slips (whatever that means in the context of a wound string with a core wire) when cutting, it’s a duff string, it happens, and in all that time (apart from the DR black beauties that were utterly naff), I’ve had maybe 2 or 3 that were dead and I’ve never bent the string before cutting. I watched Jon Shuker string one of my basses and he didn’t do it so that’s good enough for me.
  9. in my case yes, strings direct and bass direct - they offered to replace the duff ones to be fair but i swapped to Elixirs and haven't bothered with DR since.
  10. I’ve had dead strings in packs before - funnily enough they were DR as well. 4x packs of black beauties each with a different dead string - they all went back for a refund and I’ve never used that brand since. It happens to most (if not all) major brands. Given the quantities of strings made, there will always be duff ones that make it to sale. I’d speak to the seller and get a replacement set or string sent out.
  11. very nice indeed - damm, i haven't even used mine in anger yet and i'm gassing for an upgrade......😃😃 (this has the potential to be more expensive than buying stuff with multiple flashing lights & buttons!!)
  12. and Ampeg.....not entirely sure if that helps or not 😁😁
  13. Don’t get me wrong, the Helix is, in some people’s hands, an amazing bit of kit (in the same way my Kemper was before that). I’m not a complete novice with multi-effects/ modellers but I’d rather spend time playing than faffing around continuously tweaking. It does have lots of flashing lights which is always good though 😃 having being around the loop of effects, no effects, effects, no effects, lots of effects, no effects, multi-effects etc etc so many times, I now realise that in the places we play, and the fact that I’m running the band sound, simpler is best if they made a 1U rack-mount version with a few, more bass specific preamps and less of the clutter, that would be an interesting product (same goes for zoom to be fair) but I guess the market for small rack mount multi-effects / modellers isn’t there anymore. I could always dig out my old Rocktron Blue Thunder bass multi-effects !
  14. I have a Helix LT and I can’t / don’t have the patience to get it to sound anything like as good as my old Sansamp BDDI. The helix is sat in its flightcase unloved at the moment. Everyone’s sound preference is different of course but I find just about all the amps, preamps, compressors and distortions pretty uninspiring on the Helix. I’ve also got a B3 and would go for a B3n if they hadn’t removed the balanced DI.
  15. New LUGS quad driver customs have arrived. First impressions are good - fit, isolation & sound are great. I need to spend a few hours with them playing some varied music and then at least one rehearsal / gig to get the full picture but so far, so good. I really bought them for the isolation and it's amazing how much better they perform on that front vs universals with the best isolating tips - I guess that's no surprise to anyone who's got some custom moulds but i didn't expect there to be that much difference.
  16. to this - almost done, just the tips to clean up - happy days !
  17. Absolutely, it does what it does well enough for non IEM use and the price is great for what you get - I think a MK2 which incorporated a few more features and a belt-pack style Tx would be very cool even if the price went up. Race indeed ! He’s just sent me this pic before he starts linishing, polishing and laser etching 😀
  18. As you mentioned, some people are more susceptible to latency so maybe I'm one of those but anything approaching 10ms total is pretty much unusable with IEMs. As with all these things, ask 100 musicians, get 100 different answers. In defence of the Smoothound system, i had zero dropouts whilst playing in many varied and RF heavy environments and I like the size of the receiver. I don't like the non-detachable Rx antenna which are a bit cheap feeling and the battery door on the Tx could be a little less flimsy. The non-detachable antenna meant it wouldn't sit properly in a 1U space (on a rack shelf) but i appreciate that it's not really designed for that (i do like to rack most of my gear though) anyway - back to IEMs - just heard from Robert @ LUGS that he's almost finished my new custom quads - should only be a few days now 😃😃😃😃
  19. I have reverted back to my Line 6 XD-V75 rack mounted wireless system having bought a Smoothhound system and found the latency to be quite noticeable in my setup. For a direct to amp, no IEMs type setup, it's perfectly fine but I was running it into a Helix LT through an XR18 mixer and then into my EW300G3 IEM transmitter (no amp on stage, straight to PA) and i honestly thought it was my Helix and the mixer causing the latency until i swapped the wireless guitar systems over. I also sing so the latency was compounded by the vocals and bass seemingly being slightly out of sync with each other in my IEMs. The XD-V75 also has a great channel scan facility as well as the usual transmitting power options etc. I did try the other settings on the Smoothound which reduce the latency but the signal integrity was very compromised. I would also add we run the mixer wireless router only on 5GHz as we were experiencing all sorts of interference issues with the 2.4Ghz kit irrespective of brand.
  20. ha, yeah i saw that pic too - same spec but red and blue as you said. soon, soon !!
  21. This may have been covered before..... i keep my IEMs in an airtight box with some silica gel pouches to help keep the moisture down after using them (I also wipe them down after use) but is there a better way to store them ? i found this whilst looking online : http://minervahearing.co.uk/product/uv-drying-box-iems-dreve-otovita/ I’m sure there are others available but could do with some more info on their usefulness.
  22. I will. Getting my new impressions done on Friday so already looking forward to some (hopefully) better isolation.
  23. Just ordered a set of custom quads from Robert at LUGS - should have them in a couple of weeks. Will keep everyone who’s interested updated. He has been very helpful so far in answering my questions and seems very amenable. Proof is in the listening of course, but so far, so good Order was for clear shells, red(right) faceplate, blue(left) faceplate, thermosoft tips and std 2 pin recessed connector. Went for a 2x low, 1x mid and 1x high arrangement.
  24. Well it wasn’t me so I have no idea 🤔....😂
  25. @tonyf - probably not the UE900s to start with - i was thinking of a new quad custom first. I just need to find the time to get some impressions done. If the quads are OK, i might get the UE900s done as a backup pair
