1. My Dad has got some Aguilar's in his J-bass build. they sound pretty damn tasty if you're goin' for the vintage vibe
 2. ahh cool, so i'd still benefit from a 4ohm cab to get the extra volume but it's not essential. good to know!
 3. Ahh ok, so does the tube pre-amp not get effected by it?
 4. Hi all, i recently got myself a Gallien Krueger MB Fusion (to replace my 700RBii) and I was gonna use my existing RBH 115 cab and upgrade the speaker to an Eminence Kappalite 3015 to make life easier when lugging gear around. Only thing is that the head is one load of 4 ohms or 2 loads of 8 ohms. I only have one bass cab, which is currently running 8 ohms, so I have my guitar cab plugged in too to make sure the load is correct, and the 3015 is 8 ohms too and not available in 4. so i was wondering if anyone could recommend me a high power rated (400w and up) 4ohm 15" speaker, preferably neodymium but not essential. Cheers Jaz
 5. thing i don't get is animal plays drums right handed..... but he's the only one XD

 8. Ok, So Basically my dad is CONSIDERING selling his limited edition Warwick Corvette $$, it's no.3 of 10 made for release in the UK only. He's been umming and ahhing over it for a few weeks now and still hasn't come to a conclusion so I offered to ask all the lovely 4 string slingers of BassChat. I personally think he is a fool.... but I may be being biased as it's my inheritance he's considering selling Here's the specs and a pic of the beaut! The Corvette $$ Special Edition LTD UK from the Warwick Custom Shop was available only in the UK. Outfitted with two passive MEC MM-style humbuckers that can be configured in series, parallel or single coil, the Corvette$$ offers an impressive sound variety and a powerful tone. The bolt-on neck joint allows for a clear and direct response. The American swamp ash body with a bird's eye poplar top in natural satin finish is adorned with an ekanga veneer stripe. The matched headstock, the bird's eye maple fingerboard and black hardware complete the exciting visuals of this special edition instrument. The Warwick Custom Shop inlay on the headstock's backside and an authenticity certificate warrant the exclusivity of this Special Edition LTD UK.

Corvette $$
4 String Model
Pickups: MEC passive MM/MM
Natural Satin Finish
Fretted Birdseye Maple fingerboard
Black Hardware
MEC active 2-way electronic
Body Swamp Ash / Birdseye Poplar Top
Bolt-On Neck of Birdseye Maple
Warwick Machine Heads
Warwick 2-piece Bridge
Matched Headstock
24 Frets
"Warwick Custom Shop" inlay on the backside of the headstock
If anyone has anymore questions about her then feel free to email my dear father at [email protected]
 9.
The thing that i find quite freaky is that out of all the muppets , the Sweedish Chef is the only muppet with human hands !! Scary !
Doesn't Ralf the piano playing dog have human hands? And Fozzy?
 10. I'm looking to sell my '91 stingray in the near future and was wondering what sort of money I should be looking for? It's one of the ones with the string mutes and Birdseye maple neck and 3band eq etc. It's not in great condition but having said that it's not too bad either. Any advice is, as always, hugely appreciated Jaz
 11. Has anyone else noticed that all the guitarists in the muppet band are left handed? I am curious as to why this might be unless all the muppeteers are left handed which seems unlikely xD
 12. Didn't know that about flea I must admit, not that surprised though, can get a pretty good stingray tone out of the Spector I have
 13. i grew up on flea and it just instantly had that tone i've had in my head since i started playing, it was the first bass i've been truly happy with... but it doesn't have a 5th string and i'm not a fan of the sr5
 14. yeah, i mean even this korean made bolt on i have in my hands right now is great, could play a bit better i'll give you that, but sound wise is very similar to the stingray, and a euro series can only be better... surely? but i love that ray too.... which leads me to the question at hand it's not easy having G.A.S when you have no money
 15. ...but i'm thinking of selling my '91 EBMM SR4 (along with my Spector Legend 5) to allow me to afford a better Spector neck thru..... thing is the SR4 is my baby but ever since i got the 5string i just don't play her all that often and i think that when i upgrade the 5 i probably won't play her at all because the sound from the 5 will be that much better..... i just don't know i'm not gonna be making a decision any time soon i know that much what are peoples thoughts?
 16. i have a nt spear gladius (guitar) which i adore BUT i put a lot of work into it to get it that way, their stock pups aren't bad but i swapped them out along with all the electronics and the finishing on it is dreadful, lots of rough un-sanded bits from routing and none of the plastic covers for the electrics fit properly... this is a good 3 years ago though so maybe they've upped their game a bit since then
 17. If I get round to it i'll stick up some recordings of my studio tones side by side with my live tones tomorrow
 18. Modded ibanez tubescreamers are worth a look at for really aggressive overdrive. Only thing I use on the overdrive/distortion front. Never been a fan of bass specific fuzz pedals
 19.
I find, if the guitars are that distorted, and the drums are that huge, clean bass is the way to go. I've never ever heard a 'metul' band that's managed to get a sweet fuzz/distorted tone cut through live or recorded. It just seems to blend in at the frequencies where the guitars leave off. Listen to bands like Lamb of God (especially New American Gospel) and Necrophagist and the bass tone is almost completely clean, and more to the point, sounds hella aggressive, raw and totally cuts through. There's something about someone shredding the hell out of a clean bass that just sounds epic! I'd work at getting a great clean tone before adding any fuzz or distortion effects.
+1
Having said that though, dist. 3 does sound sweet... but does it work with everything else?
+100
 20.
... let the bass nearly totally cover the low end (below 200hz) and have a bit of grit in the mids ....
from personal experience everything below 70hz is just inaudible space being filled and can make stuff a bit, for lack of a better word, 'muddier' than it could otherwise be, i normally have a boost from 100-200hz but roll off almost everything below 80 and let the kick drum have some of that space (as it makes all the difference between a kick sounding triggered or tight and punchy). i also generally have a peak around 400hz and another somewhere between 1k and 2.5k and the roll off most of the topp from about 3-4k but not as steeply as I do at the bass end. my basses are both pretty mid heavy though so what works for me may not work for you you also have to bear in mind that even if your bass sounds MOTHER-FRICKING-AMAZING on it's own it may not (and in my experience it doesn't) work in the mix. More often than not when we're nearing the end of the mixing process I'll listen to the bass solo'd and be utterly amazed at how bad it sounds on its own, yet stick guitars, vocals and kit in there and it fits perfectly. Also when using a lot of distortion you'll get a way 'bigger' sound with less saturation/fizz and something a bit more overdrivey... and it should help the bass stand out more in a live situation as all that fizz will most probably just get lost in all the guitars and cymbals thats about all the advice i can give you, hopefully some of will be of some use Jaz
 21.
they were made in california, because when i was looking at buying one i remember i was attracted to the sub and the highway 1 because they were american made. I'm pretty sure the only difference was the finishes on the body and neck. Also they just had the standard 2EQ in either passive or active
Ahh ok, I (foolishly) made the assumption that as the Ray34's are Indonesian then the S.U.b's probably were too as i couldn't actually seen to find it anywhere online. Regardless, they're both cracking basses for the money and I know that if hadn't got my baby at such a bargain I would almost definitely opt for one of them rather than going all out for the real deal.
 22.
True..... but anything after 79 wasn't the same ;o)
I'll let ya have that one
 23. and just to throw something new into the mix Metallica - Pulling Teeth, Master of Puppets, Orion etc. RHCP - Good Time Boys, Subway to Venus.... Rush - Tom Sawyer, YYZ
