The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash - Now Sunday 19th September 2021
Pinball replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
I had better add myself on to this list. 25. Pinball: Amplification: GB 2x12 and streamliner Burnes Marquee bass, G&L Fallout, Supro Huntington 1, Fender Jazz Bass Special/boxer, Peerless Jack Casady. I also a Revelation Dub King if anyone wants to see it but let me know as I have to get it back from a buddy. Keep me a space! Stuff for the auction? I don't know that I have much spare to be honest but will have a look. -
This is my wickedly good boxer bass, that I'm looking to sell to help fund future recordings. It was a recent purchase from Bass Direct that hasn't left the house since it's purchase. It is in imaculate, comes with a fender soft case and plays like a dream IMHO. Trades? Poissibly a cheaper Precision + cash but cash preferred. Bass info and stats: Best of both worlds Precision Bass x Jazz Bass. The Fender Boxer PJ Bass combines Fender's most iconic bass designs into a single tonal monster. The 3-way pickup switch allows you to instantly switch between any combination giving you the tones of both, whilst simultaneously offering the ability to combine them for a raucous new tone. The 34'' scale length with 20 jumbo frets gives you unparalleled sustain and ensures a rich and rounded tone. The 12'' radius of the fretboard makes fretting remarkably easy and means even fiddly parts become easier to play. The PJ Boxer really is an amalgamation of the ebst qualities of both the Jazz and Precision Basses. Boom AND Bark The age old debate of Precision Bass pickups vs Jazz Bass pickups still rumbles on, why choose a side when you could get both on the same bass? 'P' pickups have a generally more rounded high-mid and treble range, while J pups have a sharper tonal response. Having both of these differing tonal palettes available on a single bass gives you a remarkable level of versatility to utilise. Use the punch of the P pickup to easily cut through even the densest mix, alternatively, get more articulate attack and razor sharpness from the J pickup. For modern bassists, versatility is often key and the Boxer PJ has it in abundance, there will be no tone you can't access with this intuitive pickup combination. MIJ-quality Japanese-made Fenders have always carried a mythical reputation. Due to their comparative rarity and consistently flawless build quality, they've always been held in incredibly high regard. The Boxer PJ proves that legacy is well-earned. Coloured headstocks can often be a giveaway and the black gloss polyester finish here lend a deluxe, top-end aesthetic to the instrument. The choice of rosewood as the fretboard material acts similarly, a tougher wood fits perfectly with this design as it adds sustain and resonance for superior performance. With an 'MIJ tag, you are assured quality craftsmanship. Bought in at the start of the first lockdown as I thought she would be good company to tale along with me open mike nights! Bags of personality and great fun. She is getting on a bit but you can still see her curves! Plays fine but is a bit rattley and rough around the fret edges up the neck, however I never notice this in normal play and it doesn't show up through an amp, where she sings fine (nice p-ups too). All the controls do something but I'm not shure what as I found my sound quickly and haven't explored since. The balance is fine. This bass will suit someone who wants something with character, a learner due to the short scale or someone who wants somthing they can travel around with them without worrying about it too much. No idea which basses all the bits came from.. Price negotiable..

I bought this beauty for a project/tour that never happened so even though I have bonded with it it's time to try and get my money back! I love the looks, style, build and sound of this bass. It is very lightweight, so some neck dive but great to carry around. Very easy and fun to play. Very versitile, check out the range of sounds in the video below. The previous owner fitted pickup covers, which have made a great looking instrument even better IMHO. It comes with a generic but decent as soft case DUB KING The Dub King produces the thick, deep tone you’d expect from a short scale neck and semi-hollow body. But unlike most basses of this type, it has excellent clarity and sustain thanks to the five-piece neck and lock down bridge. You can even solo the Split Brick neck pickup for super deep thump, and the split pole design keeps it focused. SPECIFICATIONS BODY semi-hollow korina, solid spruce top. NECK PROFILE medium oval. NUT 1-21/32" (42 mm) width, graphite. PICKUPS Thick Brick bridge, Split Brick neck. FINGERBOARD rosewood, 12" radius. CONTROLS volume, tone, pickup pan. BRIDGE string-thru-body or top-load, 3/4" spacing. FRETS 21 frets. STRINGS 45-100. NECK 5-piece korina/walnut. TRUSS ROD dual action, headstock access. CASE Lg Two-Toned Teardrop (Available Separately). SCALE 30". TUNERS Hipshot Ultralight, 1/2" dia. shaft. LIST PRICE $1199. I'm using anothers pictures of the bass as it has been borrowed by a friend (home use) at the moment. Therefore I can't answer questions but can retrieve it for purchase.

Yep I have a Stingray Special 5 and a SR705 fretless. I haven't played them in a long while but am hanging on to them in hope. -
The Big Fat South-West Bass Bash - Now Sunday 19th September 2021

I have permission to come along. It was required as it also my wedding anniversery. I have been swapping and bases around lots since the last bash. Will bring Amplification: GB amp and 2x12 Short Scales: Reverend Dub King, Supro Huntington. I also have a USA Fallout but will probably leave that at home unless someone particularly wants me to bring it. Long Scales: Peerless Jack Casady, Fender Boxer Jazz Special and maybe a couple of surpises Note: I could do with selling a few. Now worried which as they are all fab in my humble opinion Is there space for me to bring these? -

I picked this up yestarday and although it is a loveley bass I just don't like lined fretless basses. I'm looking to swap for an unlined one or maybe a fretted version. I know it is a long shot but would love one that is the same clour. This is used so as you would expect for an old bass it has a couple of dings in the front but as you can see the paint work is still there and it still looks great

Here's why so few bass players smash their instruments...it's hard work -
The bass player has been discussed in this thread back in 2010..

Thanks for the feedback (4 year?). That one is a great bass. It is so easy to dial in great sounds. If my band hadn't packed up I would have kept it. Enjoy!

Fender Boxer Range re-released 2021 - The Jazz Bass Special !
Pinball replied to Dood's topic in Bass Guitars
For info. I put a little review up with my impressions of the bass here: -
I'm "on honeymoon" with my latest purchase, a MIJ boxer. A P/J hybred, which successfully manages to be a re-issue and an update worthy of a 2021 release. Choosing my bass! I spent around 3 hrs making a racket in Bass Direct, armed with my ears and and an open mind. They have a large collection of new and used kit so it look me a while to decide. The important criteria were the sound (tone/power) and playability, together with looks and cost. I was prepared to pay more if needed and It was a tough decision as there were some really nice basses. The Boxer came home with me because: 1. When soloing the neck pickup, it was one of the nicest sounding of the basses on offer. This alone narrowed the search from several down to one of 3 options. 2. It was really nice to play and the satin neck felt just right (search was now narrowed to 2). 3. The extra tone options! Those pickups are hot and you get a lot of extra tones options. You have the J and P pups, 3 way pickup selector, each pup has it's own volume. Finally there is the "TBX tone knob", which has a split function. The first half turn functions as a normal tone and the 2nd half gives scoops and boost options. I can even hear it doing an active bass impression at times so it stood out when compared to the others. Check out the video below to hear the sound options. It was already winning my heart before even coming down to it's looks and won there too as I love it's RED colour. Other endearing features are that it is light weight and has solid MIJ build quality. So to sum up it is a re-issue, a great precision and bang up to date with more tone options, hot pickups and great neck. I wanted the P bass tone, power and simplicity. The boxer delivers. There are some things that I don't like. I would have preferred a beefier and less spiky bridge (I hate those screws poking up) and I don't like the sharp corners of the pickups. All that comes with the re-issue tag I guess. Overall it is a "bruiser" of a precision and a real players bass. I'm very happy and although it has Jazz in it's title I'll be using it as a P bass. This video sums it up well.

Fender Boxer Range re-released 2021 - The Jazz Bass Special !
Pinball replied to Dood's topic in Bass Guitars
I no P bass expert so went to Bass Direct I picked my self up a red one of these yestarday, after trying several guitars over about 3 hrs. As I was trading in I could get what I wanted and I eventually got down to two P style guitars. The Boxer and a MARUSZCZYK. Both sounded beautiful and hit the spot to my ears. In some other ways they were quite different. Note: The boxer feels as the name suggests is more of a bruiser, the MARUSZCZYK a bit more classy but was more gentle. I went for the Boxer as it is an exceptional sounding bass, has wider range of tones and it was RED! 😂 👍 I'm liking it this morning even more than when I picked it out....very happy! -
I'm really missing live music....I love this.

For me, Fernaners on Lou Reeds New Sensations album. I reckon it is in the fingers, rather than in the technology.
