1. OK thanks for the advice everyone.I'm very much amateur so its all useful Re: Truckstops comment "It's ok if you don't like a pedal. If you buy something and it doesn't quite do what you want it to do, move it on!". I kind of found that out already as its all about learning for me so both pedal and guitar choice is constantly evolving. It's amazing how often what I think I need turns out not to be what I actually want I didn't get on with the boss distortion but am now happy with my Bass Attack, Synth Wah and Blow torcth
2. I'm pretty new to Bass so when I went to PMT in Bristol to check out the possibilities the sales gur steered be away from the the expensive mols to a squire copy. He said "before you try anything els try this as you are goin to have to spend an awful lot more money to get something that will compare to it" and it was a cmfortable nice sounding bass. Mentally I still do it every time I play a new bass. Great value and a good quality experience.
3. Thanks, some useful stuff in there. Re: Spelling I'm a lost cause but at least I used the same spelling twice even if its wrong, I may remember board for a while now though. Re: Classical music, I tried to like it but it doen't have that "thud" that I like-other than the 1812 which is OK. ED
4. Hi, I'm hoping to get some pointers and ideas as the best way to go. I currently have three pedals (MXR blowtorch, Harke VXL Bass Attack and Digitech envelope filter) and want to set up an unpowered Gater "Bone" bourd to stop them kicking around the floor. My thinking follows: 1. Velcro doesn't seem to stick to the rubber underside of my pedals and some aren't flat in any case so am I best to rip of the rubber (I don't like vandalizing my pedals). Any other suggestions?? 2. I plan to fix a 2 point 3 pin mains plug socket to the side of the "bone" so that I can plug in the 9 and 18v adapters that I need for the pedals. Then I can daisy chain the 9v as necesary-sound OK? 3. I plan to run the pedals in series-is that the best way? Any opinions or advice on the above would be greatly appreciated as I'd like it all up and running as soon as possible. Also any recommendations of a vital pedal that I should have, compression maybe?
5. Nice guitar which is w ay out of my price range, which is a shame for me as I was secretly hoping to come across one of these some day. I tried one in 83 in a shop in Edinburgh along with the lead guitar version that was the same shape. At the time I was playing a nice Guild semi acoustic lead, which is why they caught my eye. I remember them as being excellent instruments. but had no idea they were that rare. To me they still look as good today as they did then. Have a bump!
6.
I had to wait weeks and weeks for my G&L to sell. By which point I had enough cash on top to buy myself an Ibanez SR Prestige. It really is a buyers market. This bass is such a good price..
You nailed it. If they are a good price they either sell immediately or sit there for ages. If I had the money in my guitar fund I would have already blown it on a Warwick, Yammy TRB, G&L or this Ibanez in the last two weeks, some nice Mex Fenders that have come up too.
7.
Waiting until after summer's not such a problem and I do actually enjoy playing this bass - especially when I put it through my Daniel D turbo-booster pedal - it sounds massive!
Aye, or wait for me to get the money, I'll soon get bored with something else and sell it.. You know the way to my heart as I love words to describe sound like "Massive" and "Booster", underhand tactics!
8. Hmm, a tricky one. Maybe a reflection of the smaller bonus being given to bankers? As someone new to bass guitars it seems like there are lots of good deals around, both here and ebay so I guess the market is just slow. The prices of new bass guitars have also dropped as you sometimes see sellers on ebay trying to sell their guitars for more than the price of a new example. Certainly nothing wrong with the quality of instruments or a reflecttion on sellers. There is another thread going at the moment that suggests that only a couple of makes are are fachionable and maintaining their value, although even that may be relative to other makes rather than compared to what they were worth a couple of years ago. Your Ibanez looks a bargain. I would like to own it but I just got another recently. There just aren't enough people buying I guess. If you can I would stash it away and bring it out after the summer hols.
9. Bump for a nice looking bass!
10. Well spotted but now sold. Thank Gary and hope your gig goes well!
11. Two pedals Boss ODB-3 distortion pedal in used condition with the usual light scratches and velcro on the base £30+P&P Bassballs USA version (not nano) in mint condition/boxed with all original paperwork £40 + P&P. 12.
. My Dean edge has a super thin neck (thinner than an ibanez) I don't know if this applies to the 5th variants but they may be worth considering.
I can confirm that the Dean 5 stringers also have very fast necks. Mines an older CZ Custom, don't know about newer ones.
13. Bump, c'mon this has to be a bargain!
14. Great quality for the price, have a bump.
15. Well snapped up, my favourite pedel. By that I mean the one I use the most.
16. That's the one. It pretty much answers all the things I was curious about. Wenge fingerbourd? is that good or bad I dunno. Shame the add isn't dated. Thanks M8
17. Sorry no pictures other than the gumtree link yet. Yes it has a cutlass blade/talon shaped inlay on the 12th fret. No other dots or inlays. On the back of the headstock it also says "Dean Europe Custom Special" and below the serial number it says "Hand Crafted in the Czech Republic". Head stock is quilted amber colour, with the word Dean in a hand written style up the center. The head is kind of curvey with an uneven V in the top, gets a little thinner as you go down before getting wider at the lower tuning heads before slimming at the nut, which is brass. Re: Dean still make some lovely instruments but unfortunately, like BC Rich, they get classed as low end heavy metal guitars by people who have never seen or played the older US models. Same applies to Schecters Guitars , which I love dearly. I have got 3 beauties and have never considered upgrading because to me they are my favourites. Their Basses are good quality too but they aren't as strong on basses as they are on leads.. Thanks for the reply, I'll stick some dean pictures up when I get them. Note: Searches on Dean Improv 5 don't seem to turn up much information at all. There is a link to this sunburst version: http://www.deanguita...ees/shawnw.html
18. Dean isn't a name I see around here much and but I'm hoping that someone can confirm that this is what I think it is. I couldn't find any information from searching. It's a Dean 5 Strnger. The previous owner said he thought it was a Dean Edge Improv from about 2001. I know that modern Dean Edge guitars are now at the cheap end of the market but my gut feeling is that its a quality designed guitar. It is in great condition with a great neck, nice sound and the finish seems excellent . The advert is still up on UK Gumtree at the moment so you should be able to see pictures here: http://www.gumtree.c...trade/102986186 Other details are a see-through Amber finish, the neck coninues for the length of the body, active EMG's, gold fittings, Schaller? tuners. The model number is 93981 and is says it was made in the Czech republic. I'm also making inquries on the Dean Forum. Any information would be much appreciated, including value-although I got it to play not sell. Cheers Ed
19. Hi, as the title suggests I'd like to try a 5 stringer so I'm looking to trade/sell. The bass is a good quality Stilletto Custom 4 and was my 2nd ever bass. I initially decided to keep as I liked it so much but play another more. It is an unnusual natural blonde colour and maple body. It also has a bolt on Maple Neck and Rosewood fret bourd. It has active EMG's. The colour is so unnusual that I haven't been able to google pictures of a similar one. You will either have to wait for me to take some or look it up on the Schecter Guitar Reseach site, In the Vault you can see it in the 2001/2002 catolugue. Stiletto Customs seem to go for around £300. This is quite and old one so I'd value it at a bit less. I would describe the condition as used but good. It has a few marks and dings but the colour hides them well so you have to look for them to notice. Pictures to follow if I get any interest. I need something with a good sound and an easy neck. I'm happy to sell or add more cash for the right bass. Thanks for reading. Ed
20. I have two basses I bought 2nd hand. A Scector Custom 4 and a Spector Legend. I was falling into the trap of lusting after lots of basses I saw on here. I got the schecter pretty cheap so didn't really value it that highly. I was planning on selling upgrading but I have a feeling that I would miss it so I'm sticking with it for a while at least. It is light, well made and sounds great for live play. Why change?
21. Yep you came over loud and clear
22. I heard it today and it sounded good to me!
23.
Another nice one! To get the vocal sound did you put it through a guitarist's OD pedal with some vicious EQ? Nice lively drum sound
Nope I just use some of the standard Garageband effects and play with them a bit. From memory its the "megaphone" with some additional echo and delay I also like the hip-pop and dance vocal effects. My voice is naturally pretty low anyway. Thanks again for the comments. I'm very busy at the moment and having trouble justifying time spent recording to myself at the moment
24. I should be able to hear it in person tomorrow.
