  1. I like lots of different options that inspire me to play, experiment and write songs. My current favourites have that covered. American Dimension Standard V HH G&L SB2 (with flats) Fretless Ibanez SRF505 I should add that I'm a big fan of the two pickup, two volume control set up. Both the dimension and G&L have a great balance between pickups that I love. I am blessed!
  2. Personally I don't notice much difference in weight beteen a 9 and 10lb bass. I do notice a big difference between 10 and 11lb. Once they get towards 11 I find they start to impact on my movement on stage and my overall enjoyment. Having a well balanced bass is also important. It isn't all about weight.
  3. I play with a pick and finger style and I'll happily play basses with different string spacings all day long, until it comes with slappiing. Then I struggle with anying tighter than a 17mm spacing. If you don't "slap a da bass" it may not be an issue Note: My slap technique is bad enough anyhow
  4. Great basses these. I love both SRH's and SRF's but an sorted (have an SRF5)
  5. Not really a protest but more observational. I was gobsmacked when I listened to this song again. My mum used to sing it to me when I was small before I understood it's brilliance. With todays ongoing issues of social inequality and the poverty traps it seems more relevant than ever.

Fuzzy woza woman but no more, it's a crazy hazy world
  7. I bought a Burns Vi from Ash, fast and easy to deal with. % stars from me Cheers Ash
  8. Here's my back up, I've also used it as my first choice on a number of occasions as it has a really nice tone and plenty of oomph. It's the only white BX5 that I have come across too.
  9. I enjoyed that, it seems like a fun band
  10. My first custom build bass, it's a 2nd hand G&L, someone else's spec but it is exactly what I would have specified. I can't wait to play it!

      Love that colour! :o

      It's stunning!

Not knowledgeable enough to spot the difference tho :(

Thanks, well I have had L2500 tributes before and I like them but the 3 way pickup selector always bugged me and (maybe I was unlucky) they were a bit chunky and heavy. This one has hopefully adresses those points:

It has a blend nob instead of the 3 way selector

is a very light at 3.4kg

Also has a seperate battery compartment, which I prefer and less inportant are the white dots, which look cool and also it looks like a carved top to me...ooh and the stunning colour of course.

It looks like it is the bass for me!

It is a big purcahse for me so fingers crossed, I nervously wait to see if it is.

      I'm sure it'll be fab :)

      Enjoy!

  11. Cort A5's are good, any SR Ibanez from SR505 and above
  12. If you want nice necks and great value for money a used high spec Bass Collection e.g. 320 is usually a great buy. Alternatively Fender mex of Chinese Dimension basses maybe. If you don't mind a slightly wider neck maybe a G&L L2500 or Yamaha BB? They are all pretty good gigable basses.
  13. Very nice, you don't see many of these around at this price.
  14. Lemmy and Hawkwind for me, their stuff was all bass driven until the mid-70's. Also Rod Clements from Lindisfarne who often played fretless, which I found interesting and at times quite haunting
  15. I remember owning that G&L L1505, I found it a joy to own and play but maybe a touch heavy and I couldn't quite the sound I wanted with my band so I sold it on. I now use a Fender Dimension HH Standard and am very happy with it so I guess it gets my vote. It is passive and I get the tone that I want just by dialling in different amounts either the back or front pickup. It hits the spot, years of GAS cured...for now!
  16. Bargain, I have a Starla with Bigsby. These are outstanding value. GLWTS
  17. Well an update is that my Amazon D'addario string order failed to arrive so I got myself a set of EB 045-130's and couldn't be happier. There was nothing wrong with the tapewounds on it but it just wasn't the sound that I wanted to achieve or had in my head when I bought the bass. To say that I'm happy is an understatement, I'm really blown away with this bass/string combo. Thanks for the advice.
  18. Yep it's a 705. It will be interesting to experiment a bit. Thanks all
  19. Well as no one answered but just in case anyone is interested I have ordered a set of D'addario Chromes to compare them with the Labella Copper Tapewounds and go with my favourite.
  20. I'm really happy with my Eden, very cheap but great quality provided you can live with the 15V supply. I use it for prog and for a subtle effects on Fretless. It is permanently on my board as I use it with other effects for a totally spaced sound.
  21. Hi, I just got myself an Ibanex SRF705, which has copper Labella Tapewounds fitted (or at least I think that is what they are as 4 have a black winding and one has red). It has kind of thrown me as I quite like the sound, especially while muting but I also liked the stock strings on a one in PMT that I played a while back. With its strong piezzo sound I really don't have any experience or reference points. What are others using or would recommend for their SRFs? Your thoughts would be much appreciated
