  1. OK sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm a tad confused. I have only ever owned two gigging amps/cab sets, both of which were a well matched cab and head. My current (bought after advice from this forum) is a GB 600w/4ohm Streamliner & NXT 212T 4ohm cab. I have always been happy with it and have looked after it. It has plenty of life left and is in great condition I recently obtained another kit. An Orange Terror 500 (can be set to either 4 or 8 ohm) head and ultra compact SP212 and SP210 cabs, both are 600w 8ohm. It sounds lovely has only ever had home use and has ever been pushed. Yesterday tried them both out after rehearsal and wow they were so different but both sounded great so I'm trying to decide which to keep. Very different beasts. The GB was comparatively clean sounding and transparent, while the Orange stuff was a bristling rock monster. However I could get some sweet middle ground from both, thanks to an effective "clean switch" on the Orange and by upping the gain on the GB. My question is how to get the best from the Orange with: 1. both cabs and 2. One cab. Is it just best to keep the Terror running on 8ohms with either 1 or both cabs or is there a place to use 4ohm? Any advice would be appreciated as I don't want to do any damage and want to try out all of the options next time.
  2. I can confirm that this is a joy to own and play. It used to be mine for 5 years but I sold it for the same reason. Nice and lightweight too.
  3. I have had that experience with a Sandberg Jazz and another bass fitted with a Delano system. It sounded great at home but in the band I was continously messing with the controls. It the end I lost my objectivity and everything that I tried started to sound "wrong". Scince then I have used a Stingray, Bass Collection, ATK and now a Dimension and have never had a problem. It is your sound so if you aren't happy change it In the end you want to be enjoying the moment not thinking about how to change your sound.
  4. Get the opnion of others or the rest of the band Dave74200? The reason I ask is that I know that I hear things in my own way and am always like to hear strong low frequesncies. It's always worth getting a 2nd opinion from the sound man or someone that you trust. I would also say if you aren't happy and have to keep searching for your sound, trade it as you probably never be truly happy.
  5. I just can't handle the concept of a Fanned Fret Fretless bass. Three reasons: 1. I play 5's so after a few drinks I would find it really difficult to talk about my "fanned fret fretless five", especially if Fender made one. 2. A fretless bass is a bass with no frets yes? So a fanned fret fretless can't exist. It would just be a fanned fretless wouldn't it? 3. I'm not keen on fanned fretted bases anyway. I have tried one and agree with Donald Trump's assessment, when he tried one and said "It's nasty, very bad" Thanks for reading, I'm glad I got that off my chest!
  6. Yep that sums up my experience. I found myself trying to look at the lines all the time, where as when I when unlined and used my ears and the side dots for a reference I learned really quickly. I also think that improved my fretted technique. I was playing a SR5 fretless and not have an Ibanez SRF5, which I rate very highly
  7. Agreed, I had one and found it a great instrument...I can't recall why I sold it. I think it was when I went back to 4 strings for a while
  8. Buying abroad is not an issue, until you have a problem! If you do and have bought used and privately it gives etras to deal with. I recently bought a bass with a truss rod fault. I wouldn't blame the seller as I don't think that they knew and were convinced it was fine so stopped communicating. luckily it was bought though Reverb, who arranged return and repayment. Of course you have have exactly the same issues buying in the UK but it is just an extra layer of complication to deal with so extra care is needed BC'ers have always been great but I would only buy though BC if there was a really healthy feedback thread or I could try it.
  9. I like lots of different options that inspire me to play, experiment and write songs. My current favourites have that covered. American Dimension Standard V HH G&L SB2 (with flats) Fretless Ibanez SRF505 I should add that I'm a big fan of the two pickup, two volume control set up. Both the dimension and G&L have a great balance between pickups that I love. I am blessed!
  10. Personally I don't notice much difference in weight beteen a 9 and 10lb bass. I do notice a big difference between 10 and 11lb. Once they get towards 11 I find they start to impact on my movement on stage and my overall enjoyment. Having a well balanced bass is also important. It isn't all about weight.
  11. I play with a pick and finger style and I'll happily play basses with different string spacings all day long, until it comes with slappiing. Then I struggle with anying tighter than a 17mm spacing. If you don't "slap a da bass" it may not be an issue Note: My slap technique is bad enough anyhow
  12. Great basses these. I love both SRH's and SRF's but an sorted (have an SRF5)
  13. Not really a protest but more observational. I was gobsmacked when I listened to this song again. My mum used to sing it to me when I was small before I understood it's brilliance. With todays ongoing issues of social inequality and the poverty traps it seems more relevant than ever.

Fuzzy woza woman but no more, it's a crazy hazy world
  15. I bought a Burns Vi from Ash, fast and easy to deal with. % stars from me Cheers Ash
  16. Here's my back up, I've also used it as my first choice on a number of occasions as it has a really nice tone and plenty of oomph. It's the only white BX5 that I have come across too.

  19. I enjoyed that, it seems like a fun band
  20. My first custom build bass, it's a 2nd hand G&L, someone else's spec but it is exactly what I would have specified. I can't wait to play it!

Thanks, well I have had L2500 tributes before and I like them but the 3 way pickup selector always bugged me and (maybe I was unlucky) they were a bit chunky and heavy. This one has hopefully adresses those points:

It has a blend nob instead of the 3 way selector

is a very light at 3.4kg

Also has a seperate battery compartment, which I prefer and less inportant are the white dots, which look cool and also it looks like a carved top to me...ooh and the stunning colour of course.

It looks like it is the bass for me!

It is a big purcahse for me so fingers crossed, I nervously wait to see if it is.

      I'm sure it'll be fab :)

      Enjoy!

  21. Cort A5's are good, any SR Ibanez from SR505 and above
  22. If you want nice necks and great value for money a used high spec Bass Collection e.g. 320 is usually a great buy. Alternatively Fender mex of Chinese Dimension basses maybe. If you don't mind a slightly wider neck maybe a G&L L2500 or Yamaha BB? They are all pretty good gigable basses.
  23. Very nice, you don't see many of these around at this price.
  24. Lemmy and Hawkwind for me, their stuff was all bass driven until the mid-70's. Also Rod Clements from Lindisfarne who often played fretless, which I found interesting and at times quite haunting
