Hi, cracking idea this. Can you add my stuff in please? Although my buddy Pete plays bass on some of my solo tracks he's also a Basschat member so it should still count. On Top of the World is one of my favourite bass lines. I like em all but am biased

I love these. I have a black Peerless Cassidy (factory branded) with similar mods. I hated the original bridge and bought another bridge for it and removed the pickguard and it looks killer. It also sounds killer. Those humbuckers are amazingly versatile. I have used it detuned in rock band, where I normally play 5 strings and for soft and country rock and it just works!

Backup 5 String Passive Bass recommendations please

Because I have no experience of them and I have had past experiences of guitars not cutting though in the past e.g. Sandberg and Fender Jazz's. I play in a loud and energetic 6 piece rock band. Precisions, Jack Cassidy and EMG powered basses seem to fair better. I used a Yamaha BX1 and that worked fine too. -

Thanks, I like headless basses. Good idea. Never had one before. I would worry that it may not have enough thump -
Gibson Thunderbird Bass - Now a rarity in the UK?!?
Pinball replied to 1Poser1's topic in Bass Guitars
Thanks for sharing, for me it's interesting to hear how distinctive and good the Rick is, how consistently good the Precision and Musicman are and how the Thunderbird shines with a pick. We obviosly need them all -

I did have a Epi Pro V? The active one whatever it was called, from Ebay. It seemed solid but had all the usual neck dive etc. but the killer was that the B string was much quieter than the rest. It meant that I couldn't really use it in the band. Inexcusable! -

Aha the non-reverse! It was playing one of those which made me think "must get a Thunderbird". I really liked the one that I played but the new prices were out of my budget. -

Interesting, I recently picked up a Gibson Studio which I'm not allowed to play until Christmas. I have tested it though and I think it may be broken as it plays and sounds great, the bridge seems solid, it doesn't have neck dive or any flaws other than the usual signs of a used bass. Note: According to the internet they all have those faults but it seems to me that the "Studio" solved a lot of those. Just as well I don't believe everything I read! My colour too! -

Thanks, I updated the weight with a figure. What is already apparent is that there seems to be plenty of choice. I really like the Cort but it is active. Also my 1 experience of trying a passive Jazz in the band wasn't the best. I got my but it kind of got lost and although I am sure I could have made it work I want something I can just sub in an emergency. Very impressed with the MB5 if I could get a good one -
Hi, just planning ahead for next year and as a musician who plays acoustic guitars, 6 string electrics and bass I'm looking to keep things simple and to avoid having to check instrument battery levels as much as possible. I have already done this with my electric guitars. This is for rock music and I often tune down. I currently have a nice Spector Legend as a back up, which is great but I will probably trade or sell once I get a replacement...anyhow! My criteria is: Preferably 5 string or 4 and able to detune to D or C Nothing to heavy in weight (Up to 9.5 lb/4.3kg) Passive! It won't get played much so I don't want to worry about batteries. I don't want to spend a lot on it. I don't want to be worrying where it is when playing at a gig Needs to work in a 5 peice rock band Any thoughts much appreciated Ed

Thomastic for me. Expensive but the sound great and so haven't needed replaced 2 years on -
I have only gone and gotton myself a Gibson Studio Thunderbird. Very pleased with it but but it was used and then stuck in a cupboard for 5 years so needs new strings. Almost everything that I currently own has flats but I'm thinking Sunbeams on this top make the most of the gnarly sound. Any other suggestions before I take the plunge?
