Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I can track down one of those Burns cases Pinball mentioned. Is it that one I have included in that picture there? Thanks.
Yep that's the one I was thinking of, nice cases but mark quite easily. Bisons are great so it is well worth you getting sorted out. A head turner of a bass too IMHO.

Hmm that sounds pretty good value compared to the opposition and for what you get. Not that I have the money.....at the moment....one day

Hi, Burns make very nice silver cases...but I had a burns 12 string guitar and in practice I found the larger cases a total pain to lug around, fit in vehicles etc.....just saying.
Thought Beth Ditto awful ( a third rate Joplin wana bee), The Faro Island thing utter pants, Robert Cray merely ok, Jain from France rather good and LP (laura Pergolizzi) very good, oh, and the Amazons, the less said the better!
I didn't see all of it but would like to hear more of LP as she's both stylish and talented. The low point was the woman with the Drum and Beth Ditto just proved that a big band doen't necesarily make a big impact.

Thanks for the soundclip, a whole bunch of cool tones there. That's encouraging as I'm getting this H/S next week: http://basschat.co.uk/topic/303106-sold-musicman-bongo-5hs/page__fromsearch__1

I bought a Stingray 5 neck from Dave, very nice it is too. Many thanks

I have one of these. The string tree on mine is paralelle to the headstock (flat across the 3 strings). If I look down the neck it appears "wonky" due to the slight curve in across the fret board but it isn't. The previous owner of mine had already replaced the bridge and upgraded the jack and pots and the string tree is the only thing that bugs me about the guitar. I don't like the look of it and it looks flimsey. I am thinking of removing it. I reckon that the E should be fine without it and I could put on a button type to hold the A and D. I am very impressed with it. It has cured my GAS for a USA one

Fender Precision USA fretless *withdrawn from sale*
Was I dreaming when pinball had a red 95 precision fretless up for grabs January of this year ..Maybe this is a different bass ..some what confused now ...glwts
No you wern't dreaming Beebop, I have been lucky enough to have 3 fretless USA P basses over the last 5 or 6 years, the last two of them were CAR. I tried my best to learn fretless on the first one for a couple of years before giving up. All three were cracking basses but as a Stingray/G&L player I really struggled to play them and the resulting lack of confidence mean't that I never did play any live. I am much more settled with a more familiar unlined Stingray. Note: All three were excellent basses. I rate those mid 90's P basses very highly, they are a lovely thing to own. GLWTS -
I guess I've got the 34" scale more or less programmed in by now.
An important point there for me as I really struggled to play fretless until I got a fretless that was similar to my Musicman bass. After that it just felt and sounded right and gave me the confidence to stick at it. I didn't need the lines at all.
Unlined yes, side markers yes......practise lots :-)
Same here, I'm not that good a player but get on far better using my ears, concentrating or my positioning and avoiding the temptation at the fret board. I'm pretty certain that playing fretless makes me position my fingers more accuratly when playing fretted too.

I'm very happy with straplocks and have them on all my guitars and basses. I would say I had now more issues that with the original strap buttons unscrewing and comming loose. The exception is when you fit the strap part onto a thick strap, which will compress and needs chacking when you use it for the first few times but thats an obvious thing to do in my mind. I could do with a gold set, maybe this post will see some come up on here for sale

I love fretless and have been messing around with it for 4 or 5 years, I don't play it much or particularly well and haven't played it live yet. One of the problems that I was guilty of was that I overplayed it to begin with. Too much mwah is not a good thing and sliding around the strings can make things sound out of tune. I've settled down a bit and really enjoy it.

The BIG FAT South-West Bass Bash, nr Taunton, 2nd April
Pinball replied to scrumpymike's topic in Events
I had a really busy week but am glad I made the effort today even (though I didn't seem to get around all the gear I would have liked to see..must be running out of steam) The Gillet's were amazing, loveley tones and buid quality. I liked the Chowny Scott Whitley too as It's a lively little beast. Other basses that stood out were the Burny Thunderbird, Norms Sqiuer Precision 5 and Stingray and I really enjoyed talking to the home builders. Dom's DA basses were really nice as were Jabba's natural ones pictured above. I sepecially liked that fretless...no controls but sounded great Also thanks to Andy for letting me try a few ocave/fuzz pedals. It was a great atmosphere...thanks to all involved -
G&L are now producing an amazing array of basses. The only gap I can see is the 5 string SB/P bass ASAT's , L series, M series, The MJ's, JB's, LB, Kiliton and SB's Loks like they have most "basses" covered http://www.glguitars.com/instruments/USA/basses/index.asp
