1. Maybe not such a good deal as for over a grand I would expect all 4 strings-lets face it trying to find original missing string is going to be tough
  2. C'mon "use your imagination" surely you can cover the drums and play guitars. Mr Boom can do it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUVm_I2r3OA
  3.
Just occasionally I’ll see a 5-string on sale and think “Hmm, looks nice” but I hold back. I learned on 4-string about 30 years ago and remained 100% faithful to it, and I think there’s some fear that adding another string is going to make me re-learn everything. If you moved from 4 to 5 how difficult was it, and how long did it take, to rework your technique and feel absolutely comfortable?
Naah its easy, just treat the bottom string as a thumb rest and then stick with it and let your playing evolve. As someone fairly new to bass. I started on 5 strings and wasn't happy with the results. I like to slide my hands around and found myself playing across rather than along and I didn't make full use of the neck. As a result I went back to 4's and sorted out my technique and then moved up to 5's permanently. I do find it unnatural to switch between 4's and 5's now so play only 5's, including a fretless. Note: I don't claim to be an expert but thats my experience.
  4.
Having owned 3-4 U.S. Stingrays, 2 U.S. Subs and a Sterling Ray34 I am now the proud owner of the Sterling Sub 4, have been for a while The preamp sucks and is hot in the latter but the playability, of mine at least (Thomann), is one of the best of played...I much prefer the Sub Ray 4 over the ugly, sticky, slab bodied US Sub. However the sound of the U.S. Sub is much better because of the better preamp and of course mostly similar to the more expensive USA Stingrays. So...I put a USA original music man pre amp & pick up in my Sterling Sub 4 and voilà a U.S. Music man Stingray Sound in a bass with the better playability and a lovely jazz width neck. Cost about the same as a U.S. Sub with preamp but I wouldn't change mine, not even for a Ray34
I'd be interested to hear how you think the Ray34 compares to the USA Stingray 4 Raslee, to see if it matches my experience. I had an SR5 and a SterlingRay35 at the same time and loved the sound of both but I always preferred playing the USA version. It spent ages pondering why as I liked the 35's sound and eventually put it down to differences in the feel of the neck. I recently found a USA SR5 neck and had it fitted to the Ray35 and it has transformed the bass IMHO, its hard to explain but the USA ones just feel more rock solid and more percussive in comparison.
There have been some crazy cheap USA stingrays on here in recent months. I just think if you're taking a chance on the most cost effective model, the Sterling SUB, most agree the preamp and possibly pickup will need work. For that money, you could then buy a USA Sub. Add just another 100-200 and you're in the ball park of some Stingrays that have popped up here. That's what I'd do!
Me too, either a USA Sub or a SterlingRay
  5. We often practice without either drums or keys as its really hard to get our whole band together. If we're missing our drummer we use software drum tracks that we have made when we're developing the tracks-many are based on the rhythms of our drummer. It's very useful as we have had to play without a drummer twice in the last 12 months. When playing live the whole band need to be able to hear the Software drums to avoid disaster so it can be tricky. If you listen to The Angry Badgers Soundcloud link below all the demo's are software drums that we use and "Kill It" is the whole band. I much prefer real drums but we still manage to rock the house
  6. There are a whole lot of them just to confuse you. The USA subs as already mentioned The Sterling by Musicman's e.g. Ray34 and Ray35, which are near their American relatives in terms of sound and build quality Sub by Sterling Ray4 and Ray5, which are capable but cheaper and not so well specked as the other. No comparison IMHO I have had a Ray35 and liked it a lot. I still have the body with USA neck on it
  7. I would be keeping my favourites and plugging the gaps. I'm happy with my Xotic Pre, Weeping Demon Wah, EBS multicomp, Strymon BlueSky. I'm really looking for an echo/delay so a Strymon Timeline
  8. i was just looking at it, great bass. It's unfortunate that I'm trying to sell rather than looking to buy otherwise I would have given it a home. Good luck with the sale.
  9.
I payed for these strings 7 days ago and i have not heard from seller or recieved the strings!!!....ever get that feeling you've been had!?!?
That isn't good, hopefully he'll see this and get in touch.
  10. Hold the bus! Check out the Strymon BlueSky I have been looking for a reverb that for a while. I want something that I can use for bass and lead guitar so I went to PMT last week in the hope of trying a HOF. They didn't have one and I noticed the Bluesky, which was much smaller than I expected so I gave it a try. I couldn't stop playing it-loved it I went back and did a trade deal on one yesterday morning. Since then I have been trying it with fretless bass, electric guitar and even my electro acoustic. It is useful for all three although I wouldn't use it excessively on the electro acoustic. It's great for soundscapes and more traditional sounds. The winning qualities are the variety of sounds, the control parameters, the quality of sounds and the fact that you can store a favourite. That means if your playing live you can have a couple of your favourite options ready without having to fiddle with settings. I've have been using it in a small pedal chain with compression and a tremolo and have never had so much fun with a new pedal. I have it set up for a typical room reverb sound and a "favourite" option that "shimmers" and sustains for ever. A bit pricey but very usable so worth it if you want to explore reverb to its full potential. https://www.youtube....h?v=JoWEBZKDw-c
  11.
Based on your description I wouldn't be concerned unless the winter temperatures in the shed regularly go below freezing. That in itself isn't an issue, it's the condensation that will form when you return the gear to a warm space that will.
Agreed. If the temperatures in your shed are pretty stable and the atmosphere dry your OK but if its one of those sheds that heats up and down then your in trouble as you will get condensation.
  12. I would watch out for one of the better Schecter Jazzers as they are amazingly cheap for highly specced bits of kit. They have very nice EMG's. Others are the Jap Bass collections or if your willing to stray a bit from the Jazz shape what about a Cort GB or Ibanez. They are all excellent bang for buck
  13.
Yep, that's how mine is set. You use the one little switch to select the function of the one footswitch, it either operates the effects, or as an off button. Mine is set as an off, I don't really use the effects.
Thats a big tick
  14.
Playing guitar and singing ? Obviously somebody who is multi talented ;)I can do neither
Hmm well I'm not going to set the world but I'm working on the theory that someone will hear my songs and want to collaborate-then I can switch to playing bass Anyway I'm sick of bands falling apart for no apparent reason
  15.
Just saw a buy it now price of £60 ( + postage £65 approx), for the e h x Worth grabbing? Just bid £48.52p . 5 days left . If I get outbid ,and it's still there , I may bid the full amount .
They recently came down from around the £100 to under 80 so thats a fair price I think. Note: My problem is the double stomping to stop it while playing guitar and singing as I'm not very confident at any of them. My wife could probably do it better
  16. Well EHX 360 is another little pedal so probably not what your after Ray but its good fun. I'm using it for playing my own stuff at open mics. I recorded a couple of bass lines in the slots and it's great for a solo set. It's usable, silent small and has some auto memory slots. It's also doesn't break the bank!. 17. The Farida HB20 is one of the smallest and lightest that I have played. It also sounds great-a powerful little tyke. http://basschat.co.uk/topic/222095-fs-ft-farida-hb20-hypersonic-series-set-neck-pj-lightweight-cw-farida-hard-case/

Dave bought a guitar neck from me. Prompt payment and good communication made it a fast and easy deal. Thanks
  19.
The Delanos are not vintage sounding PUs. If you are looking for that, get Häussel PUs. On the other hand, I would not say they are extremely bright; you can dial in a lot of usable tones. Also, the demo video above is not a very good representation...
+1, I have had both and agree with the above.
  20. Makes me appreciate my MM's even more. Nice to see "the man" play too.
  21.
I'm interested in this too. For instance can i use my Android tablet connected to a projector?
That sounds good......I was thinking along those lines. A friend of mine bought a digital home projector quite cheaply a couple of years back and set up stuff for his 50th. Unfortunately I can't ask him for advice as he didn't make 51
