1.
are both pickups meant to be exactly the same height off the body?
How are you finding your bass Wishface? The Revaluation bass I tried nicely but I have never plugged one in.
2. Nope I bought it used ages ago off here. It did appear OK, although I haven't used it much to be honest. I got one of those 9v to 18v in line adapter/booster thingies straight off. It sounds like the problem though
3.
I am constantly scanning BC Marketplace for The One!
I have found "The one", the trouble is I now need to sell the rest
4. Hmm, thanks thats interesting. I have one of those in-line adapters it may be that is acting up and the "tone sucking" may be somewhere else. I'll do some more investigations tomorrow. I don't think the neighbours would appreciate me testing it out now.
5. Hi, I have a problem. my pedal board has been sucking bass tone and the culprit seems to be my DI box. I have noticed that the blue light on my Blowtorch remains on all the time. It does change the sound when I hit the button but it seems to continue to suck bass tone. Is it likely to be fixed by putting in a new switch or is it something more serious? Is it worth fiddling with or do I need to throw it away and get something else?
6. I have a very nice Hartke Bass Attack VXL Tone shaper. This is a great pedal and one I would use if I was restricted to one pedal but I now have a pedal board to play with and it isn't getting any use. For trade I could use a distortion/fuss with thru bypass so would prefer to trade or a quality wide stap + cash. I removed the rubber on the base and attached velcro but still have the rubber. It also has its original box and is like new. Great piece of kit. See video here:
7. Have a good day...wish I was there as I really enjoyed the last one!
8.
It's made by a company called Revelation. I have never heard of them. Model number is RBJ67 (presumably that's the model number). It's a jazz style bass; 2 single coil pickups, don't know what make they are, sounds decent to my ears. Varnished neck, very smooth, no resistance playing. Thick body. Neck is about 20 frets. Don't know what strings they are but they are new and sound nice as well. D'addarios I think. He seems like a decent guy to me. Whether he's any good at setting up instruments I don't know. Where he gets his stock and what quality, in general, they are, again I don't know. I can only hope, for the sake of £165, he is!
I tried one of those but think it was a Precision bass. There were a couple of them and I didn't try it through an amp. The one I played felt like a nice bass although I would worry about the quality of the electrics for that price. Take him up on his offer and take it back so that he can sort it for you.
9.
Wait a sec.. Is the new bass you want set up, the same one you bought from him? If so, why was it not set up when you bought it? and if you don't like the set up on the bass, would you really want to take it back to him? If this is a different bass then ignore me
That is the guys standard way of working. He always says "See how you get on with it, let it settle down and bring it back in a couple of months and check its set up". He said that when I got my 12 string electric and I took it back and he fixed a crackly pot and did a set up. I've watched him with new and inexperienced players and he always gives them what he thinks is the best advice rather than just flogging them a guitar. He did me a very good trade in deal on mine. Nothing but praise from me.
10. Good news is I now have a spare case so secure posting os an option. Any offers for this fine guitar?
11. This guy is great and has a base in Bristol near the bus station. http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk I have no hesitation is recommending him in terms of price and quality of work
12. There seem to lots out there 2nd hand, many which have been mentioned. Recently while searching for my sound I was looking at Cort (A4 and B4) models and Ibanez basses as anything from the 500 model upwards seems great value. LTD/ESP and Schecters always seem good value as are Farida. ooh I just happen to have mentioned all the 3 bass brands on my profile already and I'm very happy with them, no GAS for me
13.
"Gulp"...? I personally am not worried by someone dressing up like this and performing a slapbass extravaganza. If Mark King followed suit it might make him actually worth watching. It's when this kind of behaviour spills over into public toilets that I generally get a bit anxious.
I don't like any sort of spillage in public toilets!
14. Congratulations! Nice guitars S&P
15.
Anyone who starts a post with "well I say" is definitely on the wrong forum. Try posting here old boy, I think you'll find you are much more at home. http://www.theroyalforums.com
Will do old chap!
16. I would just add that there are a number of nice 2nd hand Ibanez basses for sale at the moment including an SR600 and SR700 that are almost at your budget. Thats an awful lot of bass for the money
17.
He's still a f*ing weirdo!
Haahaa yup sure seems that way to me. Funny though
18.
Until you start dressing like the Korean Transvestite Bassist, know that there is always someone more flamboyant at 16th notes and slapping than you
Well I say this band at the weekend and they all overplayed. It was great. Seriously check them out, great live band :
19. I don't think I can make this after all as I have another bass playing appointment at the same time. I hope it goes well.
20.
Pinball, how have you got the EQ controls on your amp set?
Yep, set pretty much flat. It also has a mids frequency setting which is set at 800 (others settings are 220 or 2.5K) and my MXR blowtorch also has a mids setting which is set in the middle. Like i said its sounding great.
21.
That's the thing. What sounds good at bedroom levels or in a shop, may not sound good at band levels. I have to say, I'm guilty of having not given much attention Ibanez basses over the years but when I get the chance to play them I'm always pleasantly surprised
That fact doesn't make choosing a bass easy does it? I'm still mesmerized by beautiful jazzy tones that don't work with this band. I probably would have got there a lot quicker if I had tried a straight "P" style bass sooner, You live and learn. Ibby's? I kept finding reasons for myself not to buy one for a while but succumbed in the end as a good bass a good bass. Ibby's are like Yamaha in that the low end ones are very competitive and the high end ones have lots going for them and cover all my needs.
22. Well I tried a bit of mids tweaking at the weekend. I set up as usual with a bit of extra bass, a touch of treble and a touch less mids. I then tweaked the sweep-able until it cut though and wow this bass cuts though everything. I'm still not 100% sure what I'm doing but It's sounding great. No further thought required.
23. I'm relatively knew to playing bass and a bit of a perfectionist (OCD maybe?). Because of this I'm never going to be happy with my playing but I have been trying to get "my" perfect sound. Since starting to play bass (January 2012) I have been trading up and flipping gear trying to get where I want to be. After changing basses several times,I changed from Ashdown to GB amplification last year, which then "threw out" everything else in my sound chain. As a result I have been changing things ever since. The last few changes have been in the right direction and have had positive feedback from the rest of the band. I made big strides by using a tiny looking but big sounding Farida Hypersonic bass (now my reserve bass) and also when I added a touch of subtle compression from an EBS Multi-comp. This Sunday I took along my Ibanez SR3005E for the first time. I only got it last week and it felt right and sounded right to me as soon as I picked it up and played it. I have felt like that before though with my Sandberg basses, only to find that they didn't work as well live with my current band. This time was different. At band practice the Ibby sounded immense and as a result I hardly used my effects pedals as it just didn't need them. After practice the band we're all over the bass, saying how great it sounded and also how good it looked. I was been told by both the guitarist and drummer, who are both far more experienced than me that "this is the one", I know they are right because I could also hear it too. At last I can relax and just concentrate on playing rather than twiddling with settings. It's been a long haul so I thought I'd share my happiness!
24. I have a Korg Pitchblack I use for guitar, which is fine but no match for my Digitech Hardwire HT6 guitar and bass tuner. I just strum my 5 stringer and can see instantly if anything is out of tune. A brilliant bit of kit. The only down side is its size. Check em out on Youtube.
