1. This guy is great and has a base in Bristol near the bus station. http://www.edgeguitarservices.co.uk I have no hesitation is recommending him in terms of price and quality of work
2. There seem to lots out there 2nd hand, many which have been mentioned. Recently while searching for my sound I was looking at Cort (A4 and B4) models and Ibanez basses as anything from the 500 model upwards seems great value. LTD/ESP and Schecters always seem good value as are Farida. ooh I just happen to have mentioned all the 3 bass brands on my profile already and I'm very happy with them, no GAS for me
3.
"Gulp"...? I personally am not worried by someone dressing up like this and performing a slapbass extravaganza. If Mark King followed suit it might make him actually worth watching. It's when this kind of behaviour spills over into public toilets that I generally get a bit anxious.
I don't like any sort of spillage in public toilets!
4. Congratulations! Nice guitars S&P
5.
Anyone who starts a post with "well I say" is definitely on the wrong forum. Try posting here old boy, I think you'll find you are much more at home. http://www.theroyalforums.com
Will do old chap!
6. I would just add that there are a number of nice 2nd hand Ibanez basses for sale at the moment including an SR600 and SR700 that are almost at your budget. Thats an awful lot of bass for the money
7.
He's still a f*ing weirdo!
Haahaa yup sure seems that way to me. Funny though
8.
Until you start dressing like the Korean Transvestite Bassist, know that there is always someone more flamboyant at 16th notes and slapping than you
Well I say this band at the weekend and they all overplayed. It was great. Seriously check them out, great live band :
9. I don't think I can make this after all as I have another bass playing appointment at the same time. I hope it goes well.
10.
Pinball, how have you got the EQ controls on your amp set?
Yep, set pretty much flat. It also has a mids frequency setting which is set at 800 (others settings are 220 or 2.5K) and my MXR blowtorch also has a mids setting which is set in the middle. Like i said its sounding great.
11.
That's the thing. What sounds good at bedroom levels or in a shop, may not sound good at band levels. I have to say, I'm guilty of having not given much attention Ibanez basses over the years but when I get the chance to play them I'm always pleasantly surprised
That fact doesn't make choosing a bass easy does it? I'm still mesmerized by beautiful jazzy tones that don't work with this band. I probably would have got there a lot quicker if I had tried a straight "P" style bass sooner, You live and learn. Ibby's? I kept finding reasons for myself not to buy one for a while but succumbed in the end as a good bass a good bass. Ibby's are like Yamaha in that the low end ones are very competitive and the high end ones have lots going for them and cover all my needs.
12. Well I tried a bit of mids tweaking at the weekend. I set up as usual with a bit of extra bass, a touch of treble and a touch less mids. I then tweaked the sweep-able until it cut though and wow this bass cuts though everything. I'm still not 100% sure what I'm doing but It's sounding great. No further thought required.
13. I'm relatively knew to playing bass and a bit of a perfectionist (OCD maybe?). Because of this I'm never going to be happy with my playing but I have been trying to get "my" perfect sound. Since starting to play bass (January 2012) I have been trading up and flipping gear trying to get where I want to be. After changing basses several times,I changed from Ashdown to GB amplification last year, which then "threw out" everything else in my sound chain. As a result I have been changing things ever since. The last few changes have been in the right direction and have had positive feedback from the rest of the band. I made big strides by using a tiny looking but big sounding Farida Hypersonic bass (now my reserve bass) and also when I added a touch of subtle compression from an EBS Multi-comp. This Sunday I took along my Ibanez SR3005E for the first time. I only got it last week and it felt right and sounded right to me as soon as I picked it up and played it. I have felt like that before though with my Sandberg basses, only to find that they didn't work as well live with my current band. This time was different. At band practice the Ibby sounded immense and as a result I hardly used my effects pedals as it just didn't need them. After practice the band we're all over the bass, saying how great it sounded and also how good it looked. I was been told by both the guitarist and drummer, who are both far more experienced than me that "this is the one", I know they are right because I could also hear it too. At last I can relax and just concentrate on playing rather than twiddling with settings. It's been a long haul so I thought I'd share my happiness!
14. I have a Korg Pitchblack I use for guitar, which is fine but no match for my Digitech Hardwire HT6 guitar and bass tuner. I just strum my 5 stringer and can see instantly if anything is out of tune. A brilliant bit of kit. The only down side is its size. Check em out on Youtube.
15.
Total powerhouse of a bass and the build quality is simply superb
That sums up what I think of my LTD's. This bass looks great GLWTS
16. I saw a band last night that was using one of these. It sounded great GLWTS
17. Thanks for the replies, I'm going to try some experimentig
18. C'mon c'mon there must be someone out there. We're getting near to gigging. See the badgers link in my sig for sounds
19. Yamaha are a good bet, especially the old FG's. Crafter and Tanglewood have a solid reputation. Farida have a great reputation and can sometimes be found cheap. I would get a good sounding guitar and forget the electronics that can be added later. Alternatively you can upgrade it when you can afford it.
20.
I thought that too! Might the battery need changing? I find the amount of cut and boost available on the East circuit to be incredibly large! The sweepable option allows you to compensate for room acoustics too. Especially if (like me) you have an amp with very basic tone-shaping abilities.
The battery is fine. I can hear a difference but not that large on either guitar. It's probably because my settings my GB anp has some mids control combined with the fact that I tend to favor bass and treble and reduced mids. I'll mess around as I may change my ideas. I love experimenting! At the moment I'm favoring a deep bass sound, the more air it moves the better.
21. I have a couple of Ibanez guitars, a SR3005E and an SR1300 with a John East preamp http://www.east-uk.c...-deluxe-32.html I don't usually like "complicated" systems and the JE is one that I would certainly have put in that category. I'm enjoying these though, probably because it rarely requires more than minor adjustment. Both guitars have mids and a mids frequency adjustment. I usually leave the "sweepable" element roughly in the middle, because it sounds nice and to be honest it doesn't seem to make much of a difference. I'm curious about mids so my questions are 1. Why have the sweepable feature in addition to the usual mids? 2. How do others use it and why?
22. I can confirm that its a nice bass. Someone will love it. Good luck with the sale
23. hmm I'm no expert and play both bass and guitar. When gigging I use a different compression pedal for each. If I try swapping them I am not as happy with the sound of either. My conclusion is buy a nice bass compression pedal. I have an EBS Multi-comp which I'm happy to recommend as its positive impact is backed up by comments from the band. Note: My guitar pedal is a Babyboom, which is cheap oriental job but does what I want on my Telecaster.
