1.
Um, about your Sandberg...
if anyone did that to my Sandburg I would be really upset. Hmm actually it may add value (see profile pic)
2. I'd like to think that I could trust my bandmates Its all a bit sneaky and snide no respect there.
3. Well I don't get it. Neither did the drummer
4. Hi, For sale or trade is this is a megaphone and distortion pedal that I bought this spring. I thought I was going to have to do some singing. Luckily it never happened so world was spared from this experience It's like new and comes with a "like new" box with adapter. £60 ono + £5 P&P if needed. Link here: http://www.tc-helico...effect-stompbox
5. If that's all you need and your happy to "stomp" I would go separate petals. That way you can refine your sound as much as you like without changing everything. The only reason I can think of to go for multi-effects is if you want to save all your settings or make multiple changes during a performance.
6. Hi, I already have several other guitars and basses, including two other Burns so this pretty little number has to go. its a special Burns Marquee S in that it is an attractive unusual red colour and has a quilted top. This must be about 12-14 year old. Its from the burns Club series and is probably Korean. The serial number is 2010037. Its a used guitar and has a chip on the head and some marks around the bottom edge so more of a user than a collectors item. It plays nicely and everything seems to work as it should. It could probably do with a set up, including the pups to give a more even sound but I'll leave that to some one with the time and interest. I have hardly played it since and as iI bought-it which is why it is up for sale. £150 or offers. Trades? What you offering? I'm interested in effects for bass or lead or anything useful I will post in Europe at the buyers expense. The pictures say it all. I tried to show the damage in the last two. Note: On the last one it is the small dings on the bottom edge and paint chip near the button I'm referring too-not the refection in the body. 7. Hi, This is a really a feeler for a nice fretless precision. It is in great condition, it is a real looker and handles beautifully. Serial Number is: N582195, which makes it 95 I think. The story goes that a couple of years ago fancied playing fretless bass and was offered this beauty. I cost me a little more than my ability justified but I was totally blown away by it. Shortly afterwards I was asked to play lead guitar and didn't play much bass for the next year. Then this summer I started to play bass again but not fretless so I have no time to play it. I have put the £750 price tag on it because I believe these are quite rare in good condition and I have seen some very high (ridiculous) asking prices and this appears to be cheap in comparison. If I'm way out no problem make me an offer as I would prefer cash. Trades? I would also trade (or trade with cash my way) for a quality fretted 4 stringer or an active or passive 5 stringer with a 34" scale. Other possibilities include light weight amplification, such as a quality lead or bass combo capable of doing small gigs. Note: No 4 string jazzes, unless its a deluxe as I already have a nice passive Jazz and no Mexican Fenders please (I'm sure there are nice ones but I haven't liked the few I have played). When I bought the bass the previous owner told me that he was the 2nd owner and had owned it for 16 years. He hadn't used it much but had always treasured and hung on to it because he felt it was "sonically correct", meaning that it sounds as good as it looks. I have been hanging on to it for the same reason in the knowledge that if I sell it I'm unlikely to get another as good. I can't see me playing it though so time to pass it on. The pictures say it all. Strung with black nylons and lots of mwah. The only thing to add is that the case is incuded for the right deal and I will post in Europe provided the buyer pays carriage and insurance. 8.
Think JE was far more the "lead" player in The Who.
Yep I was thinking that. At times he was leading and giving the others the space to jump around and whirl their arms etc. The perfect partner for Keith Moon
9.
Pinball, but as you say one bass is considerably heavier than the other. IMO trying to pin the differences in sound between the two on the fingerboard is ignoring half the evidence in front of you.
Agreed I carefully didn't, what I said was (complete with spelling mistake): My conclusion is that it is down weight of the wood and type of wood in the neck, which mirrors a lot of the inking on here. That's what I thought but there could be lots of other variables, density of wood, pickup height. They are also different colors ( pffft). I also went on to say about the feel of the boards but it would be interesting to play them blindfolded to see how much of it is emotional.. .
10. Hi, I have two ESP LTD surveyor 5 strings that sound different. The differences are that one has a maple board and is over 2lb lighter in weight than the other which has an Ebony board. They have the same strings, hardware, electrics and meaty EMG pups and 3 band EQ. They have the same tone, by that I mean I can recognize the sound as one of my ESP but they do sound and play different. The lighter maple one is a lighter sounding bass with plenty of power and character but a more slappy/percussive sound and feel, while the ebony one has a monster deeper and darker sound. By tweaking the EQ (cutting the treble and adding others on the maple one, or the opposite on the ebony one) I can get them to sound pretty much the same. My conclusion is that it is down weight of the wood and type of wood in the neck, which mirrors a lot of the inking on here. In terms of feel the ebony board and steel strings give a more elastic, slippery feel than the maple which feels more percussive. Both are great but different
11. I remember seeing an article about the Who and their amazing energy on stage. From memory it referred to Keith Moon as either a demented gerbil (could have been hamster) and Pete Townsend as whirling windmill, while Entwistle just stands there playing the bass. A bit of an understatement I think.
12. Mr Entwistles isolated bass from don't get fooled". I'm sure that some will have seen this already seen this but thought it was worth a post. I always loved the who with their kick-ass vibe, amazing rhythm section and cutting lyrics so was pleased to find this. His playing is much flashier than I appreciated Note you need to give it some time to get into it and there are some nice pits at the very end. and here is the same with the whole band
13. Have another bump. I love this machine and am missing my Esh already.
14.
I think the 'floppy' B string is something that you need to get used to for a few weeks. Personally I like .125 because the .130 feels far too fat for me. I've never played a 5er that has had a similar tautness to an E for example. I found I had to adjust my playing style slightly to get used to the extra play you get from a longer, less taut string. Truckstop
Wise words from Mr Truckstop as ever, I was just thinking the same thing. I'm not sure what scale your bass is but I play a 34 inch 5 stringer and B strings are always a bit floppy in comparison with the rest. I have got used to it and don't think about anymore. I play it like a 4, adding on the B string as I need it. That works well for me.. The B is also great for adding "low down slides, grunts and snorts" as required. The alternative is to go for a bass with a 35 inch or even longer scale. This certainly helps the B to feel and play like the other strings but for me it feels strange moving between basses of different length scales. Also check out Status Hotwire strings, they work well for me. Note: You do need a bass with a rock solid neck though. I have played a couple of 5's that have been horrible.
15. Great news, I hope you enjoy your new bass!
16.
I did not know it was possible to buy a made in USA bass from a well known manufacturer for that little. I was shocked at the £150 until I searched sold listings and found them selling for less. I'm not going to buy one as I have a four string fretted that I really like. I had a google to see if they're available fretless. I found this: , but I don't really like that sound. Just out of curiosity, have you reviewed your foundation? What's it like?
A great example of how a lot of bass tone comes from the fingers...or not!
17. Well, still not playing it so..........Ill keep it till I need the cash or fancy something else
18. Are you going to run through them all at rehearsals? There is no harm in asking, or maybe there is.
19. I played a 5 sting USA Fender, can't remember the model but it was truly awful, i like fenders normally but this was an exception, the B string was the worst I'd come across on any bass. some sort of set up would have helped.
20. I guess that says it all, anyone want to buy a 6 string set, I will undercut ebay by 10% Note: the strings seem to match the quality of the set up on the bass they came with
21. Hi, anyone use or heard of Patrick Strings? I inherited an unopened set, made in Wilmington USA and wondered if they had any sort of reputation-either good or bad
22.
Thanks people. I'll probably get some Status strings and maybe the half rounds. Thanks for your input.
Another vote for status half rounds here, great strings.
23. Thanks for the reminder. I need to play with EMG's on one of my basses. I love the tone on both but I like to be able to flip between them and at the moment one has more presence than the other.
