1. One of the guys at work has a pillar drill and has taken two angle jacks and is going to drill through the sleeves for me. I'll hopefully get them back tomorrow or the day after and I'll report back.
2.
All the bands I have ever been in have been rockabilly bands. Back in the (early eighties) day, Rotosounds were the the only real alternative to steel, so I used them for about 10 years. It was never a major problem, but the slight tonal differences between the top pair and bottom pair occasionally caused me some aggravation while trying to get a decent EQ from the amp, but I never had any problems with playability. I started using Innovation about 8 or 9 years ago, and the Silver Slaps are quite similar in tension, but the tone and volume leves are considerably more even across the set, so they are my (current) string of choice... for gigs Now the quirky part... While the Innovation strings are great for amplified gigs, I am not that fond of the acoustic sound. This doesn't bother me usually, as I have absolutely zero interest in playing quietly, but our last album was recorded acoustically to try and emulate some of the fifties recordings so I had to change strings to get a more natural sound.. to RS4000s, which are less 'clanky'. I think that the Roto's are about £40/£50 dearer than Innovations. Personally, I dont hear £50 of improvement, but while I would choose Innovations first, I would take Rotosounds over gut or steel any day of the week. Any of this helpful? Probably not

I use the rotosounds. All pizz and slap. I prefer the sound and feel of them to the Innovation silver slaps and super silvers.
Awesome, I'll order a set tomorrow. Cheers guys.
3.
In that case, get a set, try 'em out and then you can tell us how they pan out, no..?
Point taken :-p
4. Cheers for the advice guys. Hopefully someone will come along with some insight on the rotos. The main reason I want to try them is because I can get them from my endorsement, so I won't be spending a fortune on a set of strings straight away.
5. Afternoon all, In the next few weeks I'm going to be getting myself a new DB after a few years of not playing. Remembering from last time and looking through here over the past few days a lot of people suggest new strings straight away (as I do with my electric basses anyway). Now, the ones I've been looking at are the rotosound DB strings. What are people's opinions on them? I'm not bothered about using a bow this time round as I barely touched it last time I had one, so it'll mainly be fingers and occasional slap. Cheers guys, James
6.
love it... this can replace my current keyholder.
Absolutely brilliant
7. Afternoon all, Recently I posted a wanted ad for a dead pedal to make a decoration for at home. Well, my ad was answered and this morning I collected the dead Digitech bass synth wah from my house and it's been my little tinkering project for the last half an hour. For now, the rings are only held on with the copper braid from the patch lead I cut up. During the week I'm going to experiment with melting the plastic core to the rings to make some sturdier key-rings. All that's left to do now is find somewhere indoors to mount it and it's good to go. 8. Cliff responded to a wanted ad of mine after a pedal for a non-musical home project. Was in touch straight away and offered to let me off postage in exchange for sticking a few quid in the bass relay/cancer research tin. Lovely guy and great to deal with.
9. Ive got a status neck fitted on two of my basses, my precision and my sterling sub (John East pre and Delano pickup). On both basses they sound and feel great. Fantastic clarity and tons of mids and bright biting high end. If I could afford to, if have one on all my basses. 10. So for a while now I've been quite content using a little Mooer firefly pedalboard. It's nice and compact and all my pedals fitted quite nicely. Until I went and got a VOX Straight 6 valve overdrive. Due to the new pedal and my amp having a built in tuner, my polytune mini came off the board. Then more recently, I got a Digitech compressor pedal from here. So I've now 2 pedals that don't fit on my board and require power. Well I decided something needed to be done as it was also getting a little cramped... It arrived yesterday whilst I out, so this morning I made the most if a sunny garden and started swapping everything over... After much umming, ahhhhing and head/chin scratching and an hour of foam cutting and playing Tetris with my pedals I finished. The box and item description online stated that I'd only power 6 pedals, so I was geared up to buy an additional power supply, but it actually has power for 7 pedals which was a nice little bonus... All in all I'm quite pleased with it. Everything fits, it's not too weighty and it was also relatively light on the wallet.

12. Pickup and pre sold, black abalone scratchplate left bump.
13. Just bought a Digitech compressor pedal off of Pete, great guy to deal with, fantastic comms too. Can't recommend him enough.
14. Afternoon all, A few weeks ago me and the missus went up to visit her dad for a weekend. Whilst up there we had a few drinks and got talking music and what not. we started discussing great tracks and albums and we got on to one that I used to have and have since lost whilst changing phones and computers over the years. Anyway, a couple of days ago I remembered this and got on iTunes in search of the album I had meant to buy when we got back. The Lexicon of Love by ABC is a fantastic album, I had forgotten just how good it is and since listening to it again fully appreciated how good the bass is on it. Since listening to it, I've not put my fretless down and can't stop playing it. Who played on this album? Cheers, James
15. It's also just occurred to me, I never got round to posting the thank you letter we all got. Sorry guys... 16. Hi guys, Sorry for the delay with this... 17. I'm tempted, how have you been using it? I've never used a compressor, but have been toying with the idea of getting one to use as an always on to even everything out. Plus it'd free up a toneprint on my BH550 for an Octaver.
18. I've been umming and ahhhhing over this compressor for a few days now and the bumping isn't helping :-P
19. I'll get the shirt out over the weekend and have a count up.

It's a sad day to find it now looks vintage white...like finding a first grey hair. 'Twas once a fine Olympic white. It too is a Squier though, a vintage modified.

That is "blue pearl" from Janika's music store, there's a site and an eBay site. It's not overly blue up close, it's quite subtle though in some lights it stands out a little more.
