Evening all, Over the weekend I bought a new scratchplate for my precision. When I ordered it, the online printout claimed it'd fit, but it actually needed some filing and the pot holes were all different sizes, as were both the holes for the split coils. Either way, it was a faff am I'm happy with the end result and want to show it off. So... I bought this... My two are both fitted with Rotosound Nexus. I started using the strings before I got the necks and really liked how bright they are and how they give off loads of mids. Once my necks arrived the necks were strung with the Nexus straight away and work perfectly with the necks, with the added bonus of looking awesome too.

Morning all, Had an idea that might be of benefit to a few people. At the moment I'm after scratchplate a for two of my basses, one for my precision is a tad awkward due to different hole placings on different models. Now, I know there's many threads on here discussing scratchplate a for different models, but is it worth compiling a thread with links to as many as we can? That way, instead of sifting through all the other threads where there may or may not be an answer, people can just scroll through this? If anyone on here has bought an aftermarket scratchplate (not had one made), either from an online supplier, eBay, etc, list the make and model (series and year if neccessary) it fitted on and include a link. If it makes it easier and tidier, once the list starts growing just copy and paste with your addition. Good idea? Bad idea? Failing that, can anyone suggest a link for a Squier VM Precision? Cheers, James

Heat gun and scraper worked fine for me both times. Tried nitromors on both refinish projects and on both attempts it was a waste of £14 and a few days. With My more recent stingray project, used a heat gun and scraper and had the bass to the wood in an hour or so. One thing that has got me intrigued though, is one I'm following on Facebook. Tony Kanal (of No Doubt fame) is having his yammy refinished. There's photos going up of the whole process and the guy stripping his just set it on fire. Not brave enough to try that myself though.
Background music..no one is listening so whack them down on an ipod and set it to play. Weddings aren't good at keeping time so just do a random select and forget about it. A lot of effort potentially for 'nothing'
I know exactly what you're saying John. It's a nice little bonus opportunity to play some songs I like too :-P What I will end up doing though is making a playlist on my phone and letting it play away.

Wow! That's nice. Don't know that about the stay-trem/mute sizes, so thank you. Where did you get your locking trem and scratchplate from?
I've always found Closer by Nine Inch Nails to be a particularly touching & emotive love ballad.
When he rang me and told me the "church friendly" bit, that was the first thing that popped into my head.

Evening all, First up wasn't sure whether this belonged in here, bass guitars, accessories and misc or repairs and tech so feel free to move as appropriate. Recently I treated myself to a Squier VM Bass VI and love it. It's a great bass and I'm starting to think I may even be able to incorporate it into a band that I've just joined. The more I use it though, the more I think about how I can mod it and it got me thinking as to whether any other bass vi owners have modded theirs. So far all I've done with mine is change the strings (which seems to be standard practice with these) for a set of Rotosound custom gauge (24, 30, 38, 47, 78, 100), fit straplocks and change the knobs from the stock black plastic to chrome barrel knobs. Now I know one of the most common mods is the stay-trem bridges which I'd like to get hold of and I also really like the idea of the Jaguar bridge mute assembly. What interests me is changing the tuners, adding a de tuner (if I can find out which one will fit, if one does) and possibly swapping out the pickups (was thinking either Seymour Duncan Quarter pounders or the vintage jag ones). So, what have you guys done with yours and/or what would you like to do? Not that it's that exciting, but here's what I've done so far... Forgot all about this thread, I've gone from one white bass to two now... Squier VM Precision with a status neck and everything else modified except the body and finish, and a Squier VM Bass VI with chrome knobs. Morning all, In a fortnights time, I'll be attending an old school friends wedding. Last night he called me and asked if I can put together a playlist for when he's having his photos done and for during afternoon cream teas, so that everyone isn't sat in silence. Now, I've got a good few ideas, but with things like this I thought I'd throw it to the floor and see if there's anything I miss. He has sent me a criteria and that is as follows... Playlist spec - 2 hours - Church friendly (no easily identifiable swearing etc) - love songs - positive vibe (Friday I'm in love - some upbeat ska sort of stuff) - Please can you include a couple of elbow tracks (bride's favourite) That's what he's sent me, but needs to be love songs and and whilst I'd prefer recognisable ones, I'm also going to include a few obscure ones and a few instrumentals to help bulk it out. I'm chuffed to bits he's asked me to do something like this and I'm really looking forward to compiling all the tracks and finding the perfect order. If any of you lot think of a few must haves, then fire away. Cheers in advance guys, James

Mine aren't 100% status, but can I still play? My Squier VM Precision with a few mods. Well, I say a few, the only thing that's still original is the body and finish. Along with that I've got my Sterling ball SUB project that started completely stock and black. Now the only original part of it is the neck plate, bridge, battery box and body. A local shop near me charges around £40 for a 15 minute job, after that I bought a soldering iron and it lived in a drawer for ages until I forgot about it. It was only after I wanted a neck and bridge rewire with a DPDT active/passive switch included and got a quote of £90 that I remembered I had one an started doing my own wiring/soldering.

Defo Rotosound Nexus. Got them on my two main basses and 6 spare sets in my spares drawer. Hoping to get Rotosound to make some for my bass vi too.

No worries, next time I'll proof read it when posting on a mobile. That was all over the place. One thing I would like to try with my one, is a proper wah pedal to compare against the envelope filter. I imagine you could have a bit of fun with one of those.
-
I'm using mine as I would any of my other basses. Running it through a TC BH550 (with the toneprints, ones a compressor and always on and the other is a vibrato which sounds lovely). He effects I'm using is a Mooer thunderball (fuzz), DOD FX25 envelope filter, Mooer Lofi machine bit crusher (sounds great through that), a VOX Straight 6 overdrive (being a guitar OD, it works really well with the strangle switch) and finally into an EHX Bassballs. Only thing I'm doing to treat it like a guitar is I went an bought a stainless steel slide to experiment with. I've found with the VOX o/d and the slide, whilst using the neck pickup and strangle switch off, you get a great blues tone.
I can't believe it took 3hours for this suggestion to be made. We're slacking. OBMM is a forum member who makes bespoke cables. Very well as I understand.
Should've thought of/asked him sooner, he made a fantastic cable for me last year.

Morning all, I'm after a daisy chain for my board, but not a conventional 5/6 pedal lead. Does anyone know of anyone that makes a 2 pedal one? My board is pre-wired for 5 pedals and I'm using 6 (well, I'd like to) but obviously don't have enough power cables. Instead of running a separate power adapter to the board, I was hoping there's a simple splitter I can buy. Batteries aren't an option I'm afraid. Cheers, James

So it's in BC somewhere.

Two of my favs are Joss Stone's cover of L.O.V.E and TLC's waterfalls. Neither are particularly challenging or showy, I just regard them as two of my favs.

Just wanted to show this off. Status tinted neck

A truly fantastic bass.
